"Did a great roofing job, replacing an 18 year old leaking roof, at a very competitive price. We have a very large roof (140 squares or 14,000 square feet). The main part of the job was completed in two days. The follow up was great with 1.) additional nail pick up, 2.) reinstalling the gutter screens in the manner that should have been done 18 years ago and 3.) replacing the shingles where the satellite internet provider had to move the dish after the new roof was installed. Two additional comments: - I wish my builder would have used this company. - Now I can enjoy listening to the rain on my roof!"

"We suffered wind damage and lost a lot of shingles. Chuck was able to come right over and patch and repair. It was still very windy out but he was able to get the work done without any problem. The weather forecast was for rain and snow the next day so this was very much appreciated. He was able to give us photos and a detailed estimate for roof replacement which was satisfactory to to our insurance adjuster."

"Snowden's Roofing is a very dependable company. Lynn did EVERYTHING he said he would do. Said he would come at 12:30pm to do an estimate (That's when he pulled into the driveway.) Said crew would be here around 7:30am to start (They were on the roof by then) Job was finished by end of day. New roof on, lawn clean. Other than the color of my roof, you couldn't tell anyone had been here. In my opinion, this is the only name and phone number I would recommend to anyone !!!! Great job, Lynn and Crew."

"Pro: The house has a new roof. Cons: 1) Business owner expected to be paid two hours before job was finished and was impatient with my desire to pay when job was complete. 2) Ridge vent ends at least one foot from either end of roof. I was not consulted. Looks strange--different from other houses I've had roofed, where ridge vent spanned the whole ridge. 3) Crew knocked down furnace chimney as I requested then business owner directed them to construct 6-foot gas vent atop house that looked like nuclear cooling tower. Objected to my request to lower it, but finally did. This was the last task completed and crew did not securely attach the cap to top of the vent. I asked how many of these gas vents they had installed, and they said this was the first one."

"Called and left message. Got call back within 2 days. Scheduled visit and he showed up on time. Found and repaired leak. Went over entire roof and touched up flashing seals. Gave recommendation on life left in roof. Gave honest appraisal, was not trying to 'sell' me anything. Pleasant experience."

"From start to finish, everything was great. I was concerned with a couple of reviews but was easily comforted once the process started. Austin, the owner, was very professional. The crew took time cover my flower beds and clean up after the roof was installed. Soon after the installation, a storm come through and I called Austin with concerns. He had no problems sending someone out to make sure everything held up properly. I will not hesitate to recommend QE Restoration. They are A+ in my book."

"Our "only" negative comment about Ground Zero Shelters is that they do not come to a persons residence to give the sales pitch and demonstration. You must go to their showroom or see their product at a home show. This being said, we were extremely happy with the sales experience, reminders and installation of our shelter. They called about 10 days prior to the installation for a reminder, their installers called the day before and the morning of the installation to remind us that they would be at our home at the designated time. They showed up as promised and were completed with the installation in less than 1 1/2 hours time! Thank you Ground Zero!"

"Mr. Spangler came out and gave an estimate. We then had to wait for Spring to do the work.  When it was time to install, he brought me samples to choose from.  The work was done on the day scheduled and took less than 2 days.to complete.  I'm very pleased with the whole process.with Timber Ridge Roofing."

"<p>Mr. Douglass installed a new architectural shingles roof on a small utility building 12 x 20 for me, I was very happy and impressed that he would do such a small job. His crew were friendly, professional and left the area clean. Ed is well known here in the Tri-Cities for his honesty and craftsmanship having been in the business for almost 40 years. He is what I consider old School his word is his bond something getting harder to find these days.</p> <br />"

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Bristol, VA

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
