"We had some water coming into our basement on rainy days. We attempted to fix the issue ourselves and quickly realized we were in over our heads. At this point we were tired of our stuff getting damaged, and cleaning up the watery mess. We called some contractors and received various quotes. We then turned to Angie's list in hopes of finding someone qualified at a much more reasonable price. We found Mr. Black Contracting and setup a time for him to check out our basement. He showed up on time, was very knowledgeable and was able to spot the problem even before we pointed it out to him. This surprised us as no other contractor was able to do that. We accepted his proposal and the work was completed quickly, efficiently and at a fair price. We work from home and are frequently on conference calls, so we were a bit worried about the repair noise being overwhelming. To our surprise the noise was kept to a minimum, and we were able to work with no interruptions. He was very clean and gave us many different options to stop the water from coming in. I will use them in the future and recommend them to anyone that needs repairs done."

"In the beginning we were very pleased with the company, however once the work started... or I should say was first delayed... our experience went downhill fast.  We had to have the owner come back multiple times as the work was not completed to our expectations (or anyone's) and repairs required (we came home one day and found that we could not open the garage door after they had repaired the roof - they were supposedly finished with the work).  We feel that we were over charged for certain items and that other parts of the "remodel" were never completed to our standards.  Example, one item that we had requested to be done was to have the header in the stairwell to our basement lifted up and we were quoted and contracted on a price (all work done together).  The handymen that came on the Saturday after we had been rescheduled twice, while nice, cut the header, found that there was a pipe, and left it entirely exposed.  Additionally, we waited for the plumber to arrive to work on our gas line, which once they arrived he found that it was MUCH easier to do AND that he required a fraction of the black piping that they initially estimated.  There was no reduction taken off for the usage of less materials (I believe we paid $800 for less than 2 hours of work and a fraction of the materials estimated would be needed, about 1/10th of the piping estimated).  Truthfully, I believe that our project was simply too small for them - that the company usually does much larger and more pricey projects and therefore we were squeezed in between 2 larger jobs.  Because of this, I do not feel that we received the attention we desired or deserved and that things were left, for all intents and purposes, incomplete.

They provided me with sources to select the kitchen cabinets as well as appliances and lighting.  They finishes on time and always answered the phone to answer any questions or last minute changes I might have had.
