The finishing details were more than we asked them to do, so it was a pleasant surprise when we came home to a staged basement. The project was to repair the planks on the deck and the associated stairs. Unfortunately, the original contractor had failed to install flashing, leading to rot on the stringers and joists that was not visible before the start of the project. As a result, both the stringers and joists needed repair. To me, this was not only beyond the original project scope but could be covered by twining the existing joists? an easier fix. Despite this, Malik completely replaced all three stair stringers and several joists at no additional cost.
