"Modern rebuilt my aging brick chimney. The cap had cracks in it and the bricks were popping out. Modern took it down and rebuilt it. Brand new limestone cap and bricks. They even tuck-pointed some bricks further down the chimney that weren't part of the rebuild. The chimney looks great and Modern did it all in one day."

"I have 20 year old paver patios and sidewalks that needed some significant repairs. Owner Dave and his crew are very knowledgeable and did a terrific job. Workmanship was excellent and communication was as well. Pricing was very reasonable. There are a lot of new paver installers, but if you need brick paver repair, this is your contractor. Highly recommend Northern Brick!!"

"Right from the start everything went like "clockwork". Communications and scheduling were timely and accurate. Marsha kept us informed every step of the way. The estimate for the job was fair and reasonable and we signed on and scheduled the job. Showing up on time, communicating necessary information such as delivery of supplies and job scheduling are important. They followed through perfectly. The job was done in one day, the crew was professional, experienced and very clean. We are delighted with our new patio and we do not hesitate to recommend Exotic Pavers to anyone. So, do yourself a big favor, call them for an estimate...you'll be very glad you did!!"

"Contacted Dan and he responded back that day. The next day, he came out to give an estimate and we signed the contract. The week after, his crew efficiently repaired the masonry work on our front porch patio. He was very responsive, gave great advice and we are very satisfied with the work."

"Excellent! I called this company on Sunday to change my porch light and pole light. He came out within 30 minutes. He went beyond the call of duty. He not only changed both light bulbs, but he took all the glass out and cleaned it on both lanterns. He paid attention to the littlest details, which is what I was most impressed with him. Did a wonderful job. I do recommend him for any service you might have."

"Gary repaired the two brick buttresses that had pulled away <br /> from the main front porch by using a mortar formulated with latex to expand and <br /> contract to allow for changes in climate conditions. The structural wing on the <br /> left side of my home was deconstructed and rebuilt after Gary poured a <br /> foundation footing below the frost line to prevent another occurrence of <br /> fracturing through ice forming beneath the brickwork. I was very impressed by Gary?s <br /> enthusiasm to solve a masonry problem. Gary has an inquisitive nature as to why <br /> and what conditions would cause masonry to fail. He asked the age of the <br /> building and noted that the stone work incorporated an old but very secure <br /> interlocking method of brick setting.I had asked Gary for a cost estimate for replacing <br /> a concrete approach on my front porch as well as the cost installing a single concrete step for the side porch. <br />  I plan to have this work completed before the snow flies. Later I will get a price on demo and replacing <br /> the floor in my two car garage. I would highly recommend Gary for his quality of work, pricing and timely <br />  manner in getting the job done! <br />"

FAQs for brick and stone patios, walks, and steps installation projects in Carleton, MI

When cleaning your flagstone patio, begin by gently hosing off loose dirt and debris. Use a mild solution of white vinegar and water or diluted dish soap to scrub the surface with a soft-bristled brush. Avoid using abrasive tools, such as wire brushes, as they can damage the stone’s seal and finish. This careful approach effectively removes mold and grime while preserving the natural beauty of your patio.

Flagstone naturally offers a neutral palette that includes shades of grey, black, red, yellow, brown, and tan, and its inherent color cannot be altered. Choosing varieties like bluestone provides a subtle bluish tint that complements many exterior designs. These natural hues enhance curb appeal and create a refined, timeless look in your outdoor space, ensuring a sophisticated finish with minimal upkeep.

Flagstone for a patio must have a minimum thickness of 1.5 inches to reliably support furniture and foot traffic. Using stone that is two to three inches thick is recommended to ensure lasting durability. The increased thickness prevents cracking under load and enhances long-term performance. Investing in thicker flagstone provides superior stability and resistance to weather conditions, ensuring your outdoor space remains both safe and attractive.

You can paint a flagstone patio by using a high-quality, outdoor elastomeric latex paint designed for heavy foot traffic. Painting not only refreshes the patio’s appearance but also creates a waterproof barrier that protects the stone from damage. Regular reapplication every one to two years maintains its durability and visual appeal, ensuring your patio remains both stylish and well-protected.
