"Gabe built a mantel out of wood for my brick fireplace. He designed & built it according to my wishes. I wanted distressed wood to match the beams in an adjoining room. He was meticulous in his work, asked questions & requested input on the specifications, & built a replica to show what the finished project would look like. He also reframed my screened-in porch and installed new doors in the porch (which included realigning the frame, which was off-set & crooked. In addition he hung blinds, shelves, & pictures throughout my house. He works long hours and follows-through on completing each project he starts, at a high quality."

"After reading many positive reviews about A Level Above I decided to go with them. I was not at all disappointed. Stephanie was friendly, professional, exceptionally hard working and completed the job in a timely manner. I felt comfortable leaving Stephanie alone in my condo. Stephanie repaired drywall, painted, repaired and replaced trim, installed a hose reel in my garage among several other in home repairs. Stephanie is very skilled in all home improvements and repairs. Stephanie provided me an itemized estimate which was very reasonable. I highly recommend Stephanie at A Level Above. I guarantee you will not be disappointed."

"The entire job went as about as I had expected it should. Tear-off of old shingles was completed quickly and thoroughly, and installation of new roofing shingles, felt paper, and ridge vent was the same. I believe they did a quality job and that the roofing crew was competent and skilled. There was virtually no damage to landscaping around my property. Also, cleanup was superb. The sum total amount of debris I have picked up around my property since this job was completed wouldn't fill an average-size coffee can (including less than half a dozen nails).

However, I gave DeNeve Construction an overall rating of "B" for two reasons. (1) I don't know if the crew who did my job was one of DeNeve Construction's own crew or if they a subcontractor. Even though I was present when the crew arrived, and checked in on the job several times throughout the day, no one on the crew identified themselves to me as a supervisor or foreman so I could review the status of the job, ask and/or answer any questions, etc. (2) I had made a specific point during the bidding process and then again when I offered him the job of making sure Mr. DeNeve was aware of my need to have the gutters cleaned out once the job was completed. The disintegration of the CertainTeed Organic Shingles has left my gutters half-full or better of shingle grit and/or pieces, and I wanted to make sure his crew cleaned all of this out as part of their final cleanup. Mr. DeNeve assured me this would be done. However, a subsequent check of my gutters (esp. the ones on the 2nd story) by a gutter contractor for a reason not related to the roof replacement revealed that the gutters were still severly clogged with shingle grit and related materials."

FAQs for baseboard installation projects in Cedar Rapids, IA

Installing crown molding can be challenging, depending on the material and your skill level. Lightweight materials like polystyrene and softwoods are easier for homeowners to install themselves, offering a cost-saving option. However, heavier materials like hardwoods and plaster are difficult to work with and require professional installation to achieve a high-quality result. Precision is crucial in measuring, cutting, and fitting crown molding, so hiring a professional ensures the best outcome.

Crown molding is available at various price points, ranging from $1 to $30 per linear foot, depending on the material. This wide range offers options for every budget. Affordable materials like MDF, PVC, and polystyrene provide cost-effective solutions, while premium materials like exotic hardwoods or metal offer a luxurious appearance at a higher cost. Regardless of your budget, you can find crown molding that enhances your home's aesthetic.

Crown molding is installed by professional finish carpenters or painters who specialize in detailed trim work. These experts possess the necessary skills and tools to ensure precise measurements, accurate cuts, and seamless installation. By hiring a professional, you can achieve a flawless finish that enhances your home's aesthetic appeal without the risk of common DIY mistakes.

Crown molding can be installed in various areas of your house to add elegance and architectural interest. It is commonly used where walls meet the ceiling, but you can also place crown molding around doors, windows, mirrors, and atop cabinets. Installing crown molding in these locations enhances visual appeal, creates a cohesive design, and adds a touch of sophistication to your home's interior.

To determine how much crown molding to purchase, start by measuring the length of each wall where you plan to install crown molding and add the measurements together to determine the total linear feet required. Purchase an extra 10% of material to account for waste from cutting angles and to ensure seamless joints by using full-length pieces when possible. Including additional material helps avoid shortages and ensures a smooth installation process.

For a professional crown molding installer, this task takes about 1 to 3 hours per room, depending on size and complexity. Factors like the material, design intricacy, and number of corners can affect the time. If you're doing it yourself, expect it to take longer as you get the hang of measuring and cutting precise angles. Advanced measuring and planning or hiring a pro can help the project go smoothly.
