"We hired Phil and his team in February 2020 to paint the interior of our new home—I'm talking walls, ceilings, doors, trim, closets, cabinets, etc.—and handle some smaller jobs, like patching and moving outlets and pressure washing our garage floor. Everything took a little over two weeks, and we were very happy with the quality of work. Phil was super communicative throughout the process and heeded our many requests (even the really tedious ones). I checked on the house often, and his team was always nice and organized. We recommend Phil and his team and would use Northshore Painting & Home Improvement for other jobs in the future!"

"When I called, Mr. Fournett, I told him that as my dryer was old and that I didn't want to spend a lot of money for repairs, but was willing to pay for a minor fix. He asked me for a description of the problem (a high-pitched squealing) and the make and model of the dryer and said he would do a little research and get back to me shortly. He did just that, telling me he believed the problem was a bearing and how much that part and the service would cost to replace it. I had called late on a Saturday afternoon and he was willing to come out Monday, however I had a conflict at that time. We made the appointment for Tuesday afternoon. On that day, he arrived promptly; easily pulled the dryer from its rather tight spot perched atop of the washer in a pantry; showed me the problem with the old bearing, comparing it to the new; and replaced it and put the dryer back in place within a minimal amount of time and with no fuss. I think the whole process took less than an hour. Mr. Fournett was very pleasant and professional and his diagnosis and estimate were spot-on. I will definitely be calling on Mr. Fournett and recommending him to friends in the future. "

"I called late on a Friday afternoon after my air went out. They came after hours, installed the new unit, and took the old one for evaluation & possible repair. A year later I called them back for another ac problem (different unit), and they came same day. Whereas another contractor told me to junk the unit, Greg replaced a small part & all was well. While with me the second trip, I mentioned several other small jobs, and they got right on them! The vent hood took a trip into the attic and up onto the roof, but they figured out the problem and solved it. This hood was damaged during Katrina (12 years ago) & Ive had several companies out to look/repair and nobody was able to diagnose problem. Now I have my hood back! Repaired two ceiling fans that I'd been told to junk, repaired a pendant light wired incorrectly by another contractor, and even replaced some light bulbs in my 12-foot ceiling-ed rooms! Excellent service, very fair pricing, good responsiveness, and just all-around nicefolks. I HIGHLY recommend!"

FAQs for appliance (smaller size) installation and replacement projects in Chalmette, LA

Garbage disposals last around 10 years when properly maintained. If your unit is getting close to that age or repair costs are increasing, it might be time to consider a replacement. Regular maintenance and careful use can help maximize your garbage disposal's performance and help it reach its maximum lifespan.

There are several signs to watch for that indicate your garbage disposal needs to be replaced. Replacement may be necessary if it doesn't work even though it's properly connected, the blades are worn and causing delays in operation, a persistent foul odor that won't go away, or leaks coming from the bottom due to a compromised seal. If you're experiencing any of these issues, it might be time to consider getting a new garbage disposal to keep your kitchen running smoothly.

A plumber or handyperson can install your garbage disposal if the electrical connections are already in place. If you need additional electrical work, you'll also need to hire a qualified electrician to handle the rest of the job. Hiring local professionals ensures the installation is safe and up to code.

It’s important to avoid putting certain items down the drain to keep your garbage disposal running smoothly and avoid clogs. Expandable foods like pasta, rice, oatmeal, and bread can swell and cause blockages. Coffee grounds, grease, fats, and oils can accumulate and create clogs. Hard items such as meat bones, nuts, and fruit pits can damage the disposal blades. Eggshells, potato peels, and fibrous vegetables such as celery, pumpkin, corn husks, artichokes, onion skins, and asparagus can wrap around the blades or obstruct the pipes.

Not every sink is suitable for the installation of a garbage disposal. The compatibility of the sink with the disposal depends on the material and structural integrity. While many standard sinks support these units, fireclay sinks are prone to cracking under the added stress and should not be used. Confirm that your sink can securely accommodate the disposal before installation.

Choosing the correct size garbage disposal depends on your household size and how much waste you produce. A 1/3–1/2 horsepower unit should be sufficient for households with one to two people. If your household consists of three to six people, a 1/2–3/4 horsepower unit is recommended. FA3/4–1 horsepower model will be necessary. For larger households of five to eight people
