"I had initially purchased a Big Deal coupon on December 29, 2013 for $99.00 for 5 cubic yards of junk hauling.  Ed Wilkins got in touch with me promptly by email to set up a time to do the work.  I told him that I would prefer to wait until April or May when I did my spring cleaning to make an appointment.  He was perfectly fine with that.
I called him on May 9, 2014 to set up an appointment, and we scheduled for May 24 at 11 am.  He arrived promptly, and quickly removed the items from my house.  I believe I had less than the allowed 5 cubic yards - he told me to imagine an area that would be filled by 5 washing machines, which really helped me determine what would go.  I had maybe 2 1/2 washing machines worth of stuff.
After he had finished loading the items, I asked him if he would give me a quote to get rid of an old incinerator that I had in the basement.  It looked like a 55-gallon drum, and I assume it was quite old as the house itself is 120 years old.  He  took a look at it, kind of shifted it to see if it was cemented to the floor, and was easily able to move it.  It was cast iron and quite heavy!  He gave me a bid of $150 and said he could take it that day.  Well, I was quite pleased with that answer and - poof - it was outta here!!!  I had been thinking about getting rid of that old thing since day one!
I found Ed Wilkins to be very personable.  He was friendly, but still business-like, which I greatly appreciated.  I understand from talking with him that he also does moving.  I found his price to be well within reason.  Believe me, this incinerator was belching ash and all sorts of stuff.  I apologize to Ed for not cleaning it out, but I was not expecting to be dealing with it.
I would definitely call on him again.

"Had a lot of stuff that had built up over time in both places. Got rid of all the yard waste (and old kids gym thing) from the back yard as well as a bunch of random clutter from down in the basement. Took only about 2 hours for both and I was happy with the price. Overall, very well done and would recommend to anyone in need of some help."

"I got in touch with Phillip, and he came very quickly to estimate the job. He was able to do the job within a week, and it took less than 2 days. The job involved removing an old split-rail fence (12 posts), carting away the debris, and then replacing it with a fence of 8 posts. The work is excellent, and the workers very courteous. I would use this company again without hesitation."

"I'm giving them a second review because I've used them twice and they are excellent. Moving APT are a family run business and they are extremely professional, polite, flexible and really quick. I was surprised how quickly and efficiently they were able to move me from a small efficiency to a large apartment in a high-rise. The high-rise was challenging because it's a new building and they don't have access for a moving truck to come in. But these guys are really quick and all my stuff is in great condition. They even took apart some of my furniture and put it back together again. I'll always use Moving APT and I can't recommend them enough"

FAQs for waste, junk, building materials and debris removal and hauling projects in Champion, PA

To throw out stained, broken, or infested mattresses or couches, call a junk hauler or take it to your local landfill yourself. If it’s infested with pests, you might want to call a pest control specialist near you. If you have infested furniture, there's a good chance you have an infested home, too.

Tipping furniture removal services is not mandatory, but it is a thoughtful way to acknowledge their hard work and professionalism. If you're pleased with the service, consider tipping junk haulers 5% to 10% of the total cost or $10 to $20 per worker. This is especially appreciated when the job involves heavy lifting, navigating stairs, or handling bulky items. Tipping not only rewards the workers for a job well done but also fosters a positive working relationship.

If your furniture is in good condition, you have a few options:

  • Donate to charities: Organizations like Goodwill, Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity, and GreenDrop often accept furniture donations and may offer free pickup services.

  • List online: You can list your items for free on local online marketplaces or community groups to find someone who needs them. Giving away your furniture not only helps you clear space but also benefits others in your community.

The cost to haul away junk depends on the haul’s size. A single item costs $60 to $150 to haul, with each additional item adding $20 to $40 to the total price. Hauling away a full truckload of trash or other junk will run $400 to $800.

Yes, some furniture retailers will haul away your old furniture when they deliver your new items. This service may be included in your purchase price or offered at a discounted rate. It's important to check with the store to see if they provide furniture removal and whether there are any requirements, such as a minimum purchase. Utilizing this service can save you time and effort in disposing of your old furniture.

In many cases, you can dispose of furniture in a dumpster, but regulations vary by location. Some areas prohibit items like mattresses or upholstered furniture due to environmental concerns. It's best to check with your local waste management authorities or dumpster rental company to understand what's allowed.
