"This is the second time I have used The Care of Trees in Hamden. I used their services about 4 years ago when they removed several shrubs and trees in preparation for the painting of the exterior of my house. At that time, I had a magnolia tree that another lawn person had told me was dying. However, after consulting with Peter , he recommended  some injections (nutrients). My tree survived! I was so impressed by the work they did that I decided I would not let anyone else cut or work on my trees. I recently contacted them again to have my very large beech tree pruned and cut back away from the fence and the back of the house. Peter worked very hard to get me on their tight schedule at the last minute. The team of two arrived on time, discussed what needed to be done,  proceeded to work nonstop, cleaned up meticulously and did a great job! <br /> <br />"

"We have just over an acre lot in a residential area, with over 34 huge white pine trees that over the years we have lived here, have given an huge amount of work to clean up fallen limbs/debris, clean gutters monthly etc. The trees are 80  to 100 feet tall, and when several tops of the trees fell into both our and neighbors yards, we felt we needed take 28 of them down for safety. We had many concerns about this project including the size/scope/price, concern over large equipment on our driveway, safety for the workers given the proximity of trees to the house etc. It was a huge undertaking for us, and our criteria for selecting a company included: 1.) experience/know-how in taking these kind of trees down 2.) reputation in terms of customer satisfaction (looking at Angie's List, better business bureau etc.) 3.) proper licenses/insurance coverage 3.) fair price and 4.) our gut based on communication with the company. <br /> We talked to over 8 companies about this job, and decided to go with Riccio. We couldn't be happier with the work they did, and our choice. Dan was great to work with - he answered all of our questions regarding the proposed work for the job, and specifically addressed and came up with a plan to remove the trees without having a huge logging truck driving on our lawn and newish driveway. He spoke again with my husband on the phone to answer more questions, and worked with us to come up with a contract that outlined all details. Stephanie in the office was also super responsive in getting us anything we needed (such as a copy of the insurance certificate) and in communicating about timing for the project. <br /> It took the crew (4 men) FIVE days to take down the trees. This amount of time was what Dan estimated for this size project, and he was right on. The crew came on time every day, worked steadily all day, and were polite and professional. We were extremely grateful to Eduardo, the foreman, for his direction with the crew on safely taking these trees down, and were amazed at their work ethic (it was grueling, heavy and dangerous work). The team took great care with the lawn, did excellent clean up (we are talking A LOT of trees and debris). After all the debris was removed and logs relocated to the front yard (for pick-up), Dan sent a few of the crew back to put some topsoil, seed and hay in an area where due to a heavy downpour during one day of work, the tractor left a few marks. The crew took a whole day to work that area for us, and did a great job. We are satisfied with the clean-up - we noticed on previous reviews many comments about the excellent clean-up of this company, and we agree!! <br /> It took a logging company 4 full truck trips to take the remaining logs from our property. Because the company was coming from a fair distance for each load, it took a few days. Stephanie in the office was our main go-to on this aspect of the project, and we cannot say enough about her professionalism and responsiveness in communicating with the other company regarding the status of the log removal and keeping us up to date (we are talking A LOT of logs!). Dan also checked in on us regarding status, and once the logs were removed, he again sent a crew member to clean-up and add some topsoil, hay and seed etc. to a few areas where the logs were placed. <br /> Dan and his entire team were a pleasure to work with. They did everything they said they would do and more, and were all professional, polite and responsive. We really appreciated that Dan in all of his communications just gave us the information we needed, with no sales pitch. With this kind of excellent work, the reputation speaks for itself and that is refreshing. They made a huge project with lots of factors of concern to us, go smoothly and with the desired results. We are heading into the Winter season without worry about these trees falling onto our home or elsewhere, and shall think gratefully about Dan and the team all season.  <br /> <br /> <br />"
