"The process was great from beginning to end. Angie’s list recommended; next they called back in less than an hour; then came out to survey same week; Gary diagnosed the issue instantly with all his experience. Finally, the crew that came out was awesome, They were informed at what the job was, explained what they were doing, and got to work and finished very quickly- very professional. Price was 'spot on' for services rendered. Would highly recommend to anyone in Tri-state area."

"It went very well, Stephen Collier the sales rep was very nice. He knew exactly what we wanted done. The install team was great! They had it torn off in no time. We needed a couple sheets of plywood replaced , then the shingles put down. My husband very picky about things like this, and he was very happy with the work. We would highly recommend."

"I have used Advantage roofing for smaller issues over the past ten years and have been happy with their work. Even so, I still got other estimates when it came time to replacing my roof. I decided to go with Advantage again because of their prompt responsiveness, professionalism, and fair pricing. They were upfront and honest so there would be no surprises. They arrived on the scheduled day and did a great job on the roof replacement, Everything was cleaned up nicely. The gutters and gutter guards were replaced at a later date due to their workload, but I was made aware of this from the beginning. They were replaced and they look and work great. I'm extremely happy with my experience and with the outcome of the work. The owner, Tim Mallory, will personally check on the work. Jonna and Scott were also great to work with. I highly recommend Advantage Roofing if you are needing a new roof and gutters."

"GREAT. They also fixed a nail hole that was really obvious in my living room ceiling (two story so I could no way reach that high on my ladder). They took care of my house, were extremely pleasant, and everything was back in its right place when I got home on Day 2! This will be the third time I've used them - twice on interior and once on exterior. maybe twice on exterior come to think of it. They are very much in demand so it took a while for them to get to me, but I wasn't in a particular hurry."

"Gerry was very responsive. Made an appointment quickly, discussed the state of the roof in detail, and explained what needed to be done well. The price was also very competitive. After removing the old shingles, his men discovered that several boards had rotted and that a couple of rafters needed replacing. All that was taken care of--supervised by Gerry himself--for a tiny extra charge (20 dollars). The roof was replaced in one long day. Cleanup was good. I'm very satisfied, and would highly recommend."

"Tom Bolt bailed us out of a messy situation created when the original contractor walked off the job after removing siding from my home, leaving it unprotected against the elements. Not only was he willing to complete the work at a very reasonable price, he moved us up in his schedule to get the job done much to the relief of my wife. Tom's crew did top notch work in a reasonable time, showed up as promised (actually started 1/2 day early), respected our property and landscaping, and were courteous, respectful, and patient with us, answering all our questions as they arose. I can't say enough in praise for the job they did and how much we appreciated Tom working us into his full schedule. We had a few contractors try to take advantage of our predicament by quoting almost twice what Tom Bolt's estimate was for. It was very refreshing to encounter a home improvement contractor with his ethics, definitely a stand-up guy. I would not hesitate to recommend his company, Construction Solutions Inc, for any home improvement project that you have, assuming it is a project that falls within their area of competency. I know Tom will be at the head of the line when it is time for us to start another project!"

FAQs for heating cable for roof installation projects in Chilo, OH

A typical heat cable uses 5 watts per foot, regardless of the outside temperature. So, if your cable is 100 feet long, it uses 500 watts per hour. Expect to pay an additional $40 to $200 or more per month on your electricity bill. Be sure to turn manual cables off in the summer when you don't need them.

To install heat tape on your roof, place it along the lower edge in a precise zig-zag pattern to maximize coverage and heat distribution. Professional installers secure the tape with specialized clips that attach firmly to your shingles. This method ensures even heat distribution to effectively melt ice and snow while maintaining your roof's integrity during severe winter conditions.

Choosing between heated gutters and roof heating cables usually comes down to budget, appearance, and performance. Heated gutters cost less to install and blend seamlessly with your home’s exterior, making them a discreet, lower-cost option for preventing ice dams. Roof heating cables deliver more customizable and powerful heat along roof edges to handle heavy snow and ice, but they require more material and labor, increasing your upfront investment. Evaluate your roof design, winter weather demands, and energy budget to select the system that works best for your property.

Roof heating cables prevent ice dams by melting snow and stopping ice buildup at the roof edge. Ice damming occurs when melting snow refreezes on a cold roof—often right above the gutter line—and blocks water from draining, which can force moisture under shingles into your home. Heating cables maintain a warm channel that clears ice dams as soon as they form and protects your roof from water damage and structural issues.

Roof heating cables last between two and ten years before replacement is needed, wearing out faster than your roof itself. Their lifespan depends on climate severity, cable type, and exposure to physical damage. Consistent inspections and preventative maintenance—such as clearing debris, tightening clips, and checking electrical connections—can extend their service life and ensure reliable snow and ice protection each winter.

To safely remove snow from your roof, start with a specially designed roof rake, standing firmly on the ground and pulling snow downhill rather than climbing onto the roof. You can also apply calcium chloride ice melt to break up stubborn ice or gently use a secured rope from a safe vantage point.

Keep in mind that large snow slabs can weigh hundreds of pounds and pose a serious fall risk. If conditions are hazardous or you lack the right equipment, hire a professional to protect your safety and your roof’s integrity.
