"I submitted a request to Angie s List as I was getting ready to sell our house. I was looking for a pool company to make some repairs to our pool. When I spoke to the representative from Angie s List, it was mentioned that we were moving out of state. I was told that Angie s List could assist with that as well. In response to that conversation, I received a call from Erik with Nationwide Van Lines. He represented himself as an employee of an A-Plus company that has been in business for 25-plus years. I asked Erik to give me a quote for a full-service, out-of-state move. I was very happy with the quoted price and was encouraged by Erik to go forward with a Risk Free Deposit of $1,700.00. At the time, I was only able to pay $500.00. In hindsight, I consider that a blessing! Erik emailed me the moving quote and asked that I electronically sign it at my convenience and send it back. He had already taken payment of $500.00 for a Risk Free deposit. For the record, I never did electronically sign the moving estimate. As I was contacted through Angie s List, it didn t even cross my mind that they could be scammers! About a week later, I was contacted by Brandon. He advised me that Erik had been terminated and Brandon was my new contact person. Never was it mentioned by Erik or Brandon that there was a 72-hour cancellation window. This shouldn t matter, however, as I did not electronically sign the moving estimate! As the move was approaching, I decided to call and pay the balance of my deposit. After a gut feeling, I decided to do a little more research before paying my balance. When I googled Nationwide Van Lines, I noticed a different phone number and address. I decided to call the 800 number that came up with my Google search. They answered as Nationwide Van Lines. I advised them I had an upcoming move and that I would like to work out a few details with them. When the customer service representative couldn t find my info, she advised me that I had been scammed. The real Nationwide Van Lines receives calls almost daily with horror stories of people who have been scammed by the company Nationwide Movers. The representative advised me that Nationwide Movers has been using the reputable name of Nationwide Van Lines to try and get business. They are known for lowballing the estimate to get the business, and then they greatly increase the price and use a third-party mover to complete the work. Sometimes, even holding your stuff hostage. She asked that I file a complaint with the Department of Transportation, which I did. The DOT number is for a company called EZ Moving Group DBA Nationwide Movers."

"This company wasn’t even moving us — they were moving our neighbor — yet somehow still managed to treat my wife with outright disrespect. Their truck blocked our driveway. When my wife asked them to move it, they responded rudely but did so. When she returned, the truck was blocking our driveway again. This time, the man told her she’d “have to wait,” clearly irritated. She stood her ground, and they moved the truck — but again, with attitude. As they were leaving, one of the movers made a completely unprofessional and offensive comment, saying the only reason our neighbor was probably moving was “because of her.” That kind of remark is beyond rude — it’s personal, unnecessary, and completely unacceptable behavior from someone representing a business. When my wife called the company to report the incident, the response was just as disappointing: “Maybe he was having a bad day.” No apology. No concern. No accountability. Just a lazy excuse. This reflects a deeper problem than just a bad employee — it’s a culture issue. Poor attitudes, lack of professionalism, and zero accountability start at the top. If management can brush off that kind of behavior with a shrug, it tells you everything you need to know about how this company is run. We weren’t even the customer, and this is how we were treated. Imagine trusting them with your home and your belongings. Use this company at your own risk."
