"Superb performance, from evaluation to completion. Anthony and his team managed impeccable removal of old roof, replacement of weak and rotting plywood, and installation of new boards and roof. I could not recommend any company more highly. D Jackson Coleman"

"I have a flat porch roof and wasn't sure if I wanted to tear it off or fix it. Craig examined the roof and suggested that I repair. Having used Craig several times previously I valued his opinion and agreed. He showed up when he said he would and the work was completed in one day. If you need a roof repair or a new roof, Craig should be someone you call to get a quote."

"Done well is very easy to get in touch with and responds quickly. The original roof work they did looks very good and they did it for a very reasonable price. I needed a repair done recently and they were at my house the same day to fix at no cost. These guys don't cut corners and really stand by there work. I'd easily recommend them."

"The price estimate did not seem especially low or high when compared to the insurance company's write-up and another quote by a competing contractor. I went with this company because I've used them before. <br /> The original aluminum siding had been painted and I had been concerned about the ability to make the new vinyl siding on only one wall look like it fit in - but the end result turned out really great, and I feel more confidant about the durability of this siding in strong winds. <br /> We were in a bit of a time crunch, and the weather has been cold and snowy. Home Improvement Center completed the job quickly at the first break in the weather (with the job completed within two weeks of our approval to go ahead). <br /> A couple of items concerned me when I reviewed the results, and Home Improvement Center came over the next day to fix these items to my satisfaction. <br /> My ONLY small annoyance was in the cleanup. I was initially told to drive over and advise the men working on the house that I needed the nails and scrap removed from the driveway so I wouldn't get a flat tire pulling into the driveway after the project was done. I pushed back on my having to drive over there, and they did take care of cleanup of the driveway fairly well - considering the snow. I am disappointed that at least some of the nails and scrap, etc. was shoveled from the driveway onto the neighbor's lawn alongside the driveway (noticed this as snow started to melt). I will have to get out there and rake out scrap from his lawn as soon as the snow melts in order to not have to buy him a new lawn mower next spring, or to have to possibly re-seed that strip of lawn. (This was where I went down one point on professionalism - they were very professional, otherwise.) <br /> Overall, I would use this company again and would continue to recommend them. <br />"

"An update to my last two reviews. The person who was suppose to send someone to fix the issues had fallen ill and was not at work to send them out, so they were not ignoring the issues. Sahlems did come back out. Mike, very professional and another guy came out and spent a few hours fixing the issues. When they were done I took a look, all looks great. They did miss two low nails but I put some roof sealant on them and ya can't even tell. In my last review I said I would not hire them again. But considering it is such a large company and there were a lot of guys here, I can't with a good conscience say that the entire company is bad because of one or two guys lacking a good work ethic or having a bad day. Sahlem's made good on their work guarantee. The roof always looked good now I am sure it is as solid as it is eye appealing. Would I hire them again, Yes. They have been around a long time and I believe in giving people the benefit of doubt. Nobody can be perfect all the time, and they did make it right."

"After moving into our home three years ago, we had Richter Roofing replace the roof with a metal roof. They did an efficient job that has held up well thus far. They had the complete replacement done in one day. We would definitely hire again for work we need completed."

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Colden, NY

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
