Customers say: Quick response

"I came home at about 9:45 and heard water splashing somewhere in my house. I discovered that the pressure relief valve on my water heater was pouring water onto the floor in the utility closet of my single-story town home (on a concrete slab). The water had soaked through and out from the closet into the kitchen on the other side, and into the living room carpet. My entryway (adjacent to the utility closet) was flooded. I couldn't figure out how to turn off the water. I consulted the owner's manual for the water heater - the bottom half of which was soaked - but the troubleshooting section didn't have a section for "ZOMFG, water's pouring out onto the floor"! I couldn't remember who I'd called last time. With the sound of splashing water soaking more of my home in the background, I sat down at my computer and checked Angie's List for plumbers. John Henry's had a A rating with by far the most reviews, and seemed familiar so I called them. By now it was 10:00. The lady who answered the phone took my name, phone number and address, and then patched me through to the on-call plumber, Jeremy. Jeremy explained over the phone how to shut off the water (which should have been obvious to me), so that was a good start. He said it would be at least an hour before he could get to me - the streets were covered in glare ice this weekend, and the temperature was below zero - but he ended up showing up in about 30-40 minutes. He assessed the situation, diagnosed the problem immediately, quoted me a fair price, and when I agreed he got to work. He was only here for about 20 minutes and the problem was solved. He also gave me some advice against future such scenarios. There was a $100 trip fee for 7 pm to 7 am calls, but that was rolled into the cost of the repairs. I ended up paying $213.54, total, and all things considered it could have been much worse. As it turns out, even though I didn't remember Jeremy initially, he remembered me. He'd been here almost exactly two years ago replacing my kitchen faucet, and he did a bang-up job then, too. If I had remembered that when I was searching for a plumber in a panic, I wouldn't have thought twice about calling John Henry's again. Hopefully I'll remember next time."

"Everlight Solar and their products are great, I would highly recommend it! I was extremely skeptical on this at first, but my energy consigliere Nick Carnagey was very patient and made sure every concern I had was fully addressed. And anytime I had a question or concern he and the rest of the staff at Everlight were always super helpful and quick to respond. The system looks great! It consistently performs as Everlight said it would or better. Our first energy bill with the system on for a month was only $45 which was mostly the basic hookup and service fees. The install process took only an afternoon and the install guys could not have been more professional or courteous. You really can't go wrong with the folks at Everlight and the systems they use and install."

"The company got back to me right away when I called at the start of November.  They were very busy at the time and I didn't need the work done until January so I told them not to hurry.  Once they had time available they called me at the start of January and the work was scheduled and completed the next day. <br /> I had asked them to come out to just run a new line for a sump pump that was being installed, but while they were here I asked if they could run another new line for some more basement outlets.  They had no problems with me asking for impromptu stuff and got all the work completed quickly and just as I needed. <br />"

"<p>We are most grateful that we asked Sentry Electric to do the work. Because their review had dropped here, we almost didn't use them. From our first call, we found them to be knowledgeable and prompt. They listened carefully to our concerns and walked through the property with us explaining how they would need to proceed. They then presented a price to do the work. I have never hired an electrician before (pastor living in parsonages until retirement), so I don't know if their prices are competitive. I know that they clearly defined the cost and the final work was done at that cost. I asked for extra work while they were here. They clearly defined the price for each project.</p> <p><br /></p> <p>The quality of their work and its thoroughness were outstanding. They discovered two areas while working where poor workmanship had created fire hazards. They also discovered that our outdoor outlets were improperly grounded. They discovered one outlet outside that was hot and sitting open to the weather or to touch. When they were done, we felt very comfortable that our home was safe and had quality electrical service. The only problem we noticed is that the new electrical outlets they installed are very tight. But that only means they are high quality.</p> <p><br /></p> <p>Throughout the time they were here, they were courteous, hard-working, and friendly. They not only worked around our pets, but were friendly with them. </p> <p><br /></p> <p>A service they provided that I appreciate is their home protection plan. We purchased it and received a ten percent discount on all work performed for a year. We also receive free service calls for our year. The plan includes a yearly inspection of our home that checks all our wiring and electrical work. On just this project alone, this plan paid for itself with much further savings.</p> <br />"

"<p>Somehow my laptop corrupted the operating system and would not even boot up. Alexander Technical Resources (Spencer) came to my house to try to repair my computer. We decided that my computer needed to go to their repair facility for some serious work. They were able to save all my data, ran thorough diagnostics and repaired my computer. It was such a relief that I did not loose and data.</p> <p>This is the second time I have used them. The first was to set up this very laptop and transfer all the data from my old PC.</p> <p>I would recommend Alexander Technical Resources and will use them for any other computer repairs. </p> <p><br /></p> <br /> <br /> <br />"

"The person performing the service had to make several trips because one of the "new" parts turned out to be faulty. I found both Complete Protection and their local repair contractor to be both very responsive and totally professional at every stage of the repair process."

FAQs for generator repair projects in Denton, NE

There is often some confusion about the type of work these professionals do. They only work on electrical systems such as outlets, lighting fixtures and electrical panels – they aren’t appliance repairmen.

There are three types of electricians: Master, Journeyman and Apprentice. Electrical licensing varies quite a bit by state. Some have licenses for apprentices and some do not. Some have a master’s rank while others stop at journeyman. Despite the differences, they all require a minimum amount of experience and usually classroom time.

  • Apprentice electricians aren’t usually licensed and spend 4 years learning the trade. Throughout that time, they work on a wide range of projects to learn to become a Journeyman. They’ll do basic work like installing fixtures and replacing outlets all the way to assisting in wiring a home. Regardless of the type of project, they must always be supervised by a Journeyman or Master electrician.

  • Journeymen work without supervision. In a few states, this is the highest level available and they can do all levels of work from wiring a new home to installing a light. In some states, they need a separate electrical contractor license to run a business. In places with a master’s level, a journeyman can do all work besides design new electrical systems.

  • Master electricians usually manage a shop, design new electrical systems in new construction and oversee both Journeyman and Apprentices. They typically bid new projects. Though they focus on larger projects, it’s not unheard of for a homeowner to request a Master Electrician for a house call. If you do, expect to spend up to 25% more for the visit.

Generally, you don’t tip electricians, but that’s not to say they don’t appreciate it if you do. You can offer them something to drink or eat, like coffee and donuts. Most will appreciate it if you do.

The education and certifications required to become an electrician vary by state, though they generally follow this list:

  1. Apprentice

    • Does not always require a license depending on the state.

    • Learns on the job under Journeyman and Master Electricians.

    • Usually needs 4 years on-the-job training before they can test for a Journeyman license. Many states also require a technical degree to advance.

    • Always require supervision.

  2. Journeyman

    • Needs between 8,000 to 10,000 hours of on-the-job training and usually 500 to 1,000 hours of classroom experience.

    • Can usually supervise apprentices.

    • They can diagnose and repair electrical problems.

  3. Master

    • Achieved after an additional two years (4,000 hours) working as a Journeyman and taking the Master Electrician Exam.

    • Besides diagnosing and repairing electrical systems, they also design them. In most places they run shops and inspect Journeyman and Apprentice work.

    • Not a recognized rank in all states.

  4. Electrical Contractor License is an optional license in some states for a Master Electrician to run a business. Some states have this instead of the Master license.

Electricians make an average of $26 per hour but it ranges with experience and licensing. An apprentice may make about half that while a Master Electrician may hit closer to $40 per hour. This figure represents how much they make; not how much they bill. Their salary is only one component of their costs. They must also figure in overhead, taxes, equipment, insurance and several other expenses.

Leave electrical work to the professionals. Electrical systems are complex and potentially hazardous when not handled and installed correctly. If it were easy, it wouldn’t take 4 years to become a journeyman or 6 years for a master’s license. If you are determined to forge ahead yourself, understand home electrical safety before beginning any project.Even for simple common electrical projects, a licensed pro is best. Not only is it safer, but contractors guarantee and insure their work. Hire a professional to keep your home’s electrical systems functioning properly and safely.
