"I came home at about 9:45 and heard water splashing somewhere in my house. I discovered that the pressure relief valve on my water heater was pouring water onto the floor in the utility closet of my single-story town home (on a concrete slab). The water had soaked through and out from the closet into the kitchen on the other side, and into the living room carpet. My entryway (adjacent to the utility closet) was flooded. I couldn't figure out how to turn off the water. I consulted the owner's manual for the water heater - the bottom half of which was soaked - but the troubleshooting section didn't have a section for "ZOMFG, water's pouring out onto the floor"! I couldn't remember who I'd called last time. With the sound of splashing water soaking more of my home in the background, I sat down at my computer and checked Angie's List for plumbers. John Henry's had a A rating with by far the most reviews, and seemed familiar so I called them. By now it was 10:00. The lady who answered the phone took my name, phone number and address, and then patched me through to the on-call plumber, Jeremy. Jeremy explained over the phone how to shut off the water (which should have been obvious to me), so that was a good start. He said it would be at least an hour before he could get to me - the streets were covered in glare ice this weekend, and the temperature was below zero - but he ended up showing up in about 30-40 minutes. He assessed the situation, diagnosed the problem immediately, quoted me a fair price, and when I agreed he got to work. He was only here for about 20 minutes and the problem was solved. He also gave me some advice against future such scenarios. There was a $100 trip fee for 7 pm to 7 am calls, but that was rolled into the cost of the repairs. I ended up paying $213.54, total, and all things considered it could have been much worse. As it turns out, even though I didn't remember Jeremy initially, he remembered me. He'd been here almost exactly two years ago replacing my kitchen faucet, and he did a bang-up job then, too. If I had remembered that when I was searching for a plumber in a panic, I wouldn't have thought twice about calling John Henry's again. Hopefully I'll remember next time."
