"Ben and his crews are absolutely fantastic!!! Always on time, phenomenal work - fair pricing and always on top of things. Twice, because of weather restrictions during the week, they actually came and took care of my yard on Holidays (Mother’s Day & Easter). The landscaping they do is always first rate and they never cut corners…..6 Stars…if that’s an actual rating. Hire Them!!!!!"

"Excellent work at a fair price. Punctual and professional. Respectful of property and requests. Most people will stop reading at this point, but I suggest you continue for a brief example of how qenuine Ryan is. While he was here doing the job, I was helping an elderly neighbor remove a fallen tree from their yard when the tire on my pull behind lawn cart blew. Not only did Ryan offer to help me fix the cart but he helped me unload and stack the wood free of charge and still finished the job on schedule. A true stand up young man."

"I'd used TruGreen in the past is why I chose them for my lawn care. I was originally set up on 4-6 week intervals to accomodate my financial needs. Everything was going as planned until I got a fertilization/weed control treatment & aeration in Sep within a week apart. I didn't realize what happened until I received the bill and contacted them to report a duplicated charge. I was told one of the charges included an aeration treatment and was a one time application indicated in the contract. This was not my understanding and must have been in very small print I could not read. When first asked about doing aeration, it was agreed to revisit in the fall. I was not asked, told or suggested this was being done so I got hit with that bill. Customer Service Rep was useless. Her resolution was to send someone out when I mentioned the service was incomplete since the gate was locked and the technician did not have access to my yard."

"They do almost all of our lawn care, and they do a fantastic job, and we have no complaints at all. They're here every couple of weeks for different things. They spray our shrubs, they do our fertilizer and grub control, and stuff like that. They do a nice job. The thing that stands out is that they call ahead so you know that they're coming, and if you're not home they leave paperwork, or if you are home they will explain what they're doing. They're pretty thorough. I think they're pretty good, the lawn looks beautiful. They charge by services, so like the mosquito cost, for the whole season, they'll be out 4 or 5 times a week to spray around the yard at like $300, because we have an ongoing package with them. So they'll do all of our lawn, and aeration, you know, basically anything but cutting and trimming, and all of our plants for pest control for on the ornamental plants we have. We probably spend about $1200 a year on everything. I don't want to touch any of that stuff and the equipment to put it down, it would probably cost just as much. There's not a day that they said they were coming and didn't show up, and they tell you when they call and leave you a message that they'll be out tomorrow weather permitting. If the weather is not permitting, they are out the next allowable day."

"Sione (the Friendly Islander) was very knowledgeable. Carefully listened to my desires and plans. Explained  various options and what he felt would make the most sense. His $1,800 price was about half of what two other high quality contractors (also on Angie's list) wanted for essentially the same job.
He and his Friendly Islander crew were very competent, hard working, good natured,  prompt, and easy to deal with. Sione and his crew all showed up when they promised, and worked continuously until done. Job took two full days on a Thursday and Friday and, as agreed,  Sione showed up on Sunday to top dress my Saturday seeding.
DO: Make up a little 'map' handout of your lawn and write on it what you would like to have done when getting estimates. It also helps to have dimensions shown and (if you know how to do it) the square footage."

FAQs for lawn care aeration projects in Donora, PA

Aeration is the best way to keep your lawn healthy and vibrant. Annual aeration makes your lawn more breathable and helps nutrients reach the roots, improving water absorption and reducing puddles where pests might breed. However, timing matters. It's best to avoid aerating during droughts, extreme heat, or if your lawn is battling weeds. A local pro can help you determine the ideal time for your yard.

Most lawns benefit from annual aeration to keep them healthy and thriving. If your lawn has a lot of thatch buildup—more than half an inch—you might need to aerate twice a year for a couple of years to get it under control. But if your soil isn't compacted and there's minimal thatch, you might be able to skip a year.

When you hire a professional lawn care company, a standard 10,000-square-foot lawn takes about 30 minutes to aerate. Uneven, sloped, or especially large lawns can take significantly more time. So, depending on your lawn's size and condition, the process can take anywhere from half an hour to several hours.

The best time to aerate your lawn is during the spring or fall when your grass is actively growing and the soil has enough moisture. Aerating once in the spring and once in the fall yields the best results. Avoid aerating when your lawn is dormant or right after heavy rain when the soil is too wet—that can make aeration less effective.

Even if your lawn looks healthy, aeration can still be beneficial. If you have good growth, proper drainage, and little thatch, you might not need to aerate right away. Regular aeration helps water and nutrients reach the roots, keeping your lawn strong over time. Keep an eye on your lawn's condition to decide when it might need aeration.
