"Great, experienced, friendly crew. Came early, worked late in hot weather. Paid close attention to the details on a multisurface roof on 1800s house. Took care not to harm landscaping and did great cleanup at the end of each day. Stuck by the original and lowest estimate and delivered as scheduled. Guaranteed not to leak. Would definitely recommend Jack's roofing."

"Scott, the salesman, was very nice when he came out. He explained the cheaper windows to me, but also explained the benefit of triple pane, which I decided to go with in the end. They look much nicer than my old windows, working well beyond my initial expectations on the first heating bill. The trim work was flawless. Danny and the crew were courteous and clean. The office staff was also very helpful.

They completed my roof a year ago, just finished up with my windows, and just I will be calling them back in the future for new siding and gutters. It's been truly great to work with them."

"Our "only" negative comment about Ground Zero Shelters is that they do not come to a persons residence to give the sales pitch and demonstration. You must go to their showroom or see their product at a home show. This being said, we were extremely happy with the sales experience, reminders and installation of our shelter. They called about 10 days prior to the installation for a reminder, their installers called the day before and the morning of the installation to remind us that they would be at our home at the designated time. They showed up as promised and were completed with the installation in less than 1 1/2 hours time! Thank you Ground Zero!"

"We were very pleased with the person that gave us the estimate. He was very professional. We also contacted them as my husband was not sure of the color. There representative was very good and made a suggestion. The color of the helmet matches really good with the roof color. They cleaned the gutters before installing the helmet. They cleaned up after the install. The product seems to be working like it should."

"We bought a home that was in desperate need of a new roof. Within 2 weeks of closing, we had Angel and his crew out to get to work. They worked very hard the 1 or 2 extremely cold winter days we had in our mild 2011-12 winter for Chicagoland.

When they discovered rotted sheathing, they texted me photos immediately, and went straight to work to fix the problem. While we had not worked out a price beforehand (we did not know there was a problem until they removed the roofing, of course), Angle acted quickly and fairly to solve my problem and showed me material receipts and added a very fair amount to the labor cost. He did not try to take advantage of me at all. Imagine: my roof is off and there is rotten sheathing. "Here's the NEW bill . . . if you want your roof put back together!" NOPE - Angel is honest, fair and courteous - a real professional.

The crew worked fast, and worked hard to clean up when the project ended, too (missing some old shingles and nails, but not too much).

Their work is high quality. We are confident we will get the entire 30 years out of these new shingles and have no fears of leaks. And, if somehow that happens, Angel and his guys will be right back to solve the problem, no questions asked.

In fact, I did have a leak caused by some chimney repairs, but I wasn't sure whether it was due to the roof work or chimney work because both projects happened within days of each other. Angel came out on right away (a weekend morning) and inspected to make sure it wasn't related to the roofing.

Our new roof looks great and we're very happy we used A.R Siding and Gutters. In fact, when it's time to replace the gutters, we will call Angel."

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Donovan, IL

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
