"This team is excellent. They could not have been more helpful and efficient. I had no clue how to fix my laptop and they could have completely taken advantage of me. They stepped up to the task and were quick and reasonable with the price of the repair. I would happily refer friends and family to this company."

"This was a really great experience and Tim and his colleague deserve a uniquely positive review. I have had landscape lighting for years, and it had to be reinstalled 2x because of previous vendors not doing a good job. I was replacing bulbs every 4 most or so because of mismatches between wattages and bulb outputs. Ugh. I went to say hello to Tim as he was finishing a neighbor's house at 930 pm. He made time without an appointment to spend 30 min speaking with me about how to remedy my issues, make the house look brighter and pledged to send me a proposal quickly. I had a proposal the next day. We exchange a quick call to answer a few question and confirm a time to do the work. They were there on time as promised, did exactly what we asked for and walked me through at the end to make sure that things were to my liking. Straightforward, prideful work and great follow through. Over the years, I have tried to find a reliable vendor for landscape lighting who really knew what they were doing. These folks answer that need. A really great experience."

"Rodolfo and Adriz - did a great job at my house repairing the Sheetrock in my basement ceiling. I was very impressed by their professionalism. He was very responsive and came to take a look at the job the next day after I reached out to him. The job itself was scheduled two days later. The job was finished in 3-4 hours like he said beforehand. They cleaned up and the repaired area looks great. I would definitely hire them again."

"I used this company for a number of years and the overall service is no longer the same. I had them over to clean my gutters and I witnessed ladders slamming against the side of my house and they tore one of the edges from the corner of my roof with their step ladder. I will not use them going forward."

"When we had to unexpectedly have work done on our home after a bathroom flood, Mary Jo and her team rescued us. They were prompt, professional and accommodating. Mary Jo had great design ideas and managed the project from beginning to end. So, when it came time to finish our unfinished basement, there was no doubt we would call Mary Jo. We are excited to get started on the project."

"We hired Guardian to install our security system at our Washington, DC, business. The service and quality of the work was horrible. We had cameras and an alarm system installed; it was a relatively large system. They outsource most of the work to various vendors. They could not manage their vendors; what was supposed to take a week took two months. The sales rep did not return calls, and you could never get anyone in management on the phone. Random people would show up at unannounced times. The few things that an actual Guardian employee did were they made a huge mess of our newly remodeled office and were rude to our staff. We have offices in five markets across the US and have high security at each; we have never had such a poor experience."

"Even though the beautiful floors were laid 4 years ago, All South sent someone out to reinstall the transition pieces at no charge. They stood by their work and responded immediately. The initial work is fabulous, and now the transition pieces are in good shape."

"Ecosystems Services responded quickly to my call about our irrigation system leak and performed a quick but complete repair. When asked about the charges for the repair David Robertson responded that there would be no charge. He indicated that the leak had occurred in an area that he had previously fixed. Since he has been taking care of our irrigation system since we moved here in 2013, it could be true that he might have done similar repair in the past, but I did not recall it. I also don't remember any warranty promised or expressed by David for any of his work. The loyalty to this customer and integrity shown here speaks for itself. I would not use any other lawn irrigation business as long as I can call on Ecosystems Services, Inc."

FAQs for generator repair projects in Douglasville, GA

There is often some confusion about the type of work these professionals do. They only work on electrical systems such as outlets, lighting fixtures and electrical panels – they aren’t appliance repairmen.

There are three types of electricians: Master, Journeyman and Apprentice. Electrical licensing varies quite a bit by state. Some have licenses for apprentices and some do not. Some have a master’s rank while others stop at journeyman. Despite the differences, they all require a minimum amount of experience and usually classroom time.

  • Apprentice electricians aren’t usually licensed and spend 4 years learning the trade. Throughout that time, they work on a wide range of projects to learn to become a Journeyman. They’ll do basic work like installing fixtures and replacing outlets all the way to assisting in wiring a home. Regardless of the type of project, they must always be supervised by a Journeyman or Master electrician.

  • Journeymen work without supervision. In a few states, this is the highest level available and they can do all levels of work from wiring a new home to installing a light. In some states, they need a separate electrical contractor license to run a business. In places with a master’s level, a journeyman can do all work besides design new electrical systems.

  • Master electricians usually manage a shop, design new electrical systems in new construction and oversee both Journeyman and Apprentices. They typically bid new projects. Though they focus on larger projects, it’s not unheard of for a homeowner to request a Master Electrician for a house call. If you do, expect to spend up to 25% more for the visit.

Generally, you don’t tip electricians, but that’s not to say they don’t appreciate it if you do. You can offer them something to drink or eat, like coffee and donuts. Most will appreciate it if you do.

The education and certifications required to become an electrician vary by state, though they generally follow this list:

  1. Apprentice

    • Does not always require a license depending on the state.

    • Learns on the job under Journeyman and Master Electricians.

    • Usually needs 4 years on-the-job training before they can test for a Journeyman license. Many states also require a technical degree to advance.

    • Always require supervision.

  2. Journeyman

    • Needs between 8,000 to 10,000 hours of on-the-job training and usually 500 to 1,000 hours of classroom experience.

    • Can usually supervise apprentices.

    • They can diagnose and repair electrical problems.

  3. Master

    • Achieved after an additional two years (4,000 hours) working as a Journeyman and taking the Master Electrician Exam.

    • Besides diagnosing and repairing electrical systems, they also design them. In most places they run shops and inspect Journeyman and Apprentice work.

    • Not a recognized rank in all states.

  4. Electrical Contractor License is an optional license in some states for a Master Electrician to run a business. Some states have this instead of the Master license.

Electricians make an average of $26 per hour but it ranges with experience and licensing. An apprentice may make about half that while a Master Electrician may hit closer to $40 per hour. This figure represents how much they make; not how much they bill. Their salary is only one component of their costs. They must also figure in overhead, taxes, equipment, insurance and several other expenses.

Leave electrical work to the professionals. Electrical systems are complex and potentially hazardous when not handled and installed correctly. If it were easy, it wouldn’t take 4 years to become a journeyman or 6 years for a master’s license. If you are determined to forge ahead yourself, understand home electrical safety before beginning any project.Even for simple common electrical projects, a licensed pro is best. Not only is it safer, but contractors guarantee and insure their work. Hire a professional to keep your home’s electrical systems functioning properly and safely.
