"Aurelio was pretty quick to respond and based on the reviews I read the common sentiment was that it is expensive but he does a great job. Since I was in a rush to do the project before moving in and he seemed trustworthy I hired him. As far as the meeting the promised timeline they definitely delivered. However, they relied on my inexperience and first lied to me, then did a lousy job on top of that. The job was to install hardwood floors on the second floor and to match it to the first floor that already had hardwood floors. On the first day of the job he called me and told me that he has "good news" supposedly he was sent wrong flooring material, but because the supplier made a mistake even though it is better (wider than what I already have) he is not charging us more. He gave me 5 minutes to decide on what I want to do. Given I was at the time 1.5 hours away after some thinking I agreed. But the trick was that he told me on the phone that instead of 2 1/4 they sent 3 1/4, however my floors were actually 4 inch wide, so in essence it was actually a worse choice, when I actually saw what 2 1/4 looks like at my friends place I was convinced that he made a mistake, sure enough the next day when I visited the house he still innocently pretended that mine were narrower and faked a super convincing surprised face when he realized that already installed floors are wider. I was so naive that I actually believed him, however you actually have to walk through first floor to go to the second floor and what kind of a professional could even for a moment not realize that they made a mistake, one look is enough, so he lied to me. I later realized that this was probably a much cheaper option or he had it already from a previous job, these are speculations of course but I am sure he lied, or honestly they are all just bunch of amateurs because even I could not make that mistake. To be entirely honest he gave me a $500 discount, I didn't ask or negotiate he just offered it to me, I guess he was afraid that I would make them redo it since they were caught. In any case I agreed but the dishonestly of it still stinks .... I am mad at myself for being so naive ... Secondly, they installed marble in my bathrooms, and when I pointed out some scratches I was called a "perfectionist", and honestly I don't know why I should not have high expectations given the price they asked and the fact that I didn't even negotiate. He then told me that he will send someone to fix it can be sanded off, and now I regret agreeing to that, you would think they know what they are doing, but obviously not, I can see the sanded part very vividly now, if anything they just made it much worse.... To top this all of, a few weeks later my cat throws up on the hardwood floors and it stains. When I talked to him he said that it is possible that the poly was not good, they will come and check and if I want a better quality poly if I pay a bit extra they can do it. They came sanded a bit that part applied a new poly to test, and I can still see the difference between the old and the new, the same Satin looks so much worse on a poor quality part ... they promised to come and fix it, although gave me bunch of stories how they do things for people and then if they scratch something people complain. The whole thing was so stressful and I was so hurt and disappointed that they would use crappy staff just to save $100 in a project that cost me 13K that I never contacted them back, I never wanted to see them again ... I figured that they will screw something up if they come to fix it and then represent it as them doing me a favor and me still complaining ... I am not even talking about them matching the stain color ... bottom line the easiest directive of matching 2 floors somehow didn't go that well and now I just have to be very careful with the cat and deal with crappy floors. Again to represent everything fairly I think they did a decent job laying the floors, it is just they were cheap and greedy ... honestly even though they should have used the best material if they told me I need to pay $100 extra to use the best poly I would, and he knew that I would, I never questioned any expense they had to do for the tiles, so he was very well aware that I will not spare expense on it to get the best results, but alas ... If you ever hire them I would encourage you to ask what they are using, check all the material they are buying and do not trust them to have your best interests in mind. Hope this will help someone to make the right choice!"

We wanted to keep our existing shower frame and doors which he meticulously removed, set aside and reinstalled. The new tile installation looks fabulous. I would highly recommend Diego!"

"Vinny did a fabulous job redoing my bathroom, and he charged a very fair price. I have a pretty old house, so he encountered a number of challenges along the way, but he figured out how to overcome all of them, and he's a true craftsman with an incredible level of detail. I couldn't be happier with the final result, and I'd highly recommend him to anyone."

Winner of the 2020 Angie's List Super Service Award, a winner nine out of the past 10 years. We are a locally owned family business supported by a national franchise company which is North America's most trusted handyman company. For more than 15 years we've consistently hired experienced, reliable craftsmen (not sub-contractors) who are licensed, insured, bonded and background checked. That means you'll receive consistently high quality work that is 100% guaranteed. What sets us apart: Mr. Handyman's professionals arrive in branded uniforms and vans that are stocked with every tool they'll need for your job. Our on-time record is second to none, and we arrive ready to work. One phone call to Mr. Handyman hires professionals who complete your entire "To Do" list. Every task whether major or minor home repair is prioritized according to your needs. Rather than calling a specialist for drywall repair and another contractor for rain gutter repair, your neighbors consistently choose us for all their home improvement needs. Mr. Handyman can complete a variety of projects for you, from installing doors, to tiling your bathroom, repairing your deck and much more.

"I had a truly MISERABLE experience with Mr. Handyman. I called Mr. Handyman and spoke to one of the administrators about wanting to demo an existing shed, and build a new one. They asked for what the shed should look like and some details, I provided a few photos of a relatively run-of-the-mill red barn style shed, they gave me a quote for a shed for $2500, and they put me on the schedule. The primary contractor arrives, tries to convince me to change the shed because the one I wanted will take long to build and is too complicated. I am annoyed, and eventually cave, we agree that he's just going to build a single pitch roof shed. They demo the shed, and then leave for the day. That evening Mr. Handyman calls me to schedule 2 additional days. The day I got cost me $2700, and my yard is completely full of debris from my old shed, a huge ditch excavated, the foundation is about 50% built. So I'm over budget by a bit and the work is at 10% complete. The extra two days will cost an ADDITIONAL $3300. I'm furious, I speak to the owner, we come to an arrangement, I pay a fixed $4500 for labor and give them my credit card to buy materials. I'm WAY over budget but at this point I need it done because my yard is in shambles. Next week they come out for two days, and then leave my yard with literal trash everywhere (see photos), and building materials all over, while also making use of MY ladder and MY wagon. If they care for my stuff I'm fine with it, but still found it shocking that they would just commandeer my stuff for their purposes without even asking (pictured is my own ladder on the shed). They tell me they need me to buy a door, can't find one and ask me to search and find a double door. I'm in way too deep at this point, so I call around and finally find a door. I printed out the product page and reviewed it with them outside and they say "yep, we'll go to Union and pick this door up." They go get it, and the door doesn't fit into their van, contractor is calling me panicking, the owner is calling me and asking me to coordinate between his contractor on site and the helper at Lowes. This is the middle of a work day and I had to abandon an important meeting while this is happening. So now I am spending an hour trying to explain this situation to Lowes and coordinate a box truck delivery for a door that they have marked as picked up by the customer, it's a TOTAL mess, meanwhile my expenses for this shed are nearly triple my original quote as material costs have pushed us above the $6k range already. Fourth day of work comes and goes relatively uneventfully, Lowes fortunately delivered the door for me after much confusion and back/forth ("But it's marked as picked up, where is the door?" etc.), and the guys installed it as an inswing. When we decided on buying an inswing door, the contractor said he could flip the door hinges no problem to make it an outswing, I bought an inswing door because it's the only one available. Who wants a shed with an inswinging door? So I'm busy all day, and eventually they leave at around 2pm having finished everything, cleaned up the site, and mostly leveled the ditch they made. I go outside and find out the door was installed as an inswing, and they installed a doorknob with a lock, which I actually specifically asked them not to. What a disaster of a job. Ron of Mr. Handyman insists that they don't do bait-and-switch type operations. You judge my experience for yourself, I obviously think it was one of the worst contractor experiences I have ever had and will not only never use mr handyman, but make sure that anyone I know is aware of just how awful it was. Tuffshed from HomeDepot doesn't do shed demo but after this miserable experience I say just call your garbage company, get a dumpster, and suffer through doing the demo yourself because in the end you will 100% not regret it. Or call American Shed. Literally anything would be better than Mr. Handyman."

Tile: ceramic and porcelain installations FAQs

Choosing between porcelain and ceramic tile depends on your needs. Porcelain tiles offer exceptional durability and are ideal for high-moisture areas like bathrooms. Ceramic tiles are easier to install and provide more design flexibility. Consider your space's function, traffic levels, moisture levels, and your style preferences when making your decision.

To prepare your subfloor for tile installation, your pro will start by ensuring it's level and reinforced. A stable subfloor guarantees lasting performance. Your tiling pro can use fiber cement backboards or high-quality plywood to create a solid base. Proper preparation prevents water damage and cracking, leading to a durable, attractive finish.

Wait 24 to 48 hours after tiling before installing grout. This allows the thin-set adhesive to cure properly, ensuring a strong bond. Grouting too soon can cause misalignment and damage. If there's a delay, you can leave tiles ungrouted temporarily. Keep the surface clean and avoid foot traffic to prevent misalignment or cracking. This keeps your installation intact until you can grout.

you need fewer of them, reducing cuts and grout lines. However, very large tiles require careful handling and precise cutting, which can be complex. Standard sizes like 12x12, 18x18, and 12x24 inches provide a good balance between ease of installation and visual appeal.
