"We received an initial quote from Harris & Co. based on a recommendation from a coworker to replace a backyard deck with a stone patio. I received three quotes from various contractors. Harris's quote was the most expensive but I went with Joshua Harris's company anyway for the following reasons: * Joshua had a complete treatment that included landscaping (which ultimately I did not do), pavers, lowering of the ground, demolition, fire pit, and seating wall. * They were responsive, using text and email and replying promptly. * Joshua Harris had a better vision for the project than I did! He envisioned a wall, lighting, making the patio extremely large (due to the limited space in the backyard, he thought that leaving a bit of grass would be pretty pointless). Ultimately, it was the completeness of the vision that drew me to use his service. Since he does landscaping, lighting, and tons of stuff, Joshua will give you a pretty complete treatment. This costs you. I think that you get what you pay for, but it's something to keep in mind. If you have a budget, keep your discipline and see what aspects that you can go without! That all said, we went all out for this project and added a long wall, accent pavers, a large fire pit, and lighting. This was an extremely expensive project for us, but it's been worth it as the end result is rather beautiful and makes the space much more usable. Before, we wouldn't even leave out the back door because the deck was so small and the yard was so dreary, but the large 28' stone patio makes the space inviting and easy to walk across, even when we're not entertaining. As for the work, I was impressed by the amount of communication that was provided. They contacted me almost every day to let me know if they were going to arrive to work and informed me if circumstances (usually rain, sometimes illness) affected the schedule. Joshua was overall very professional. There were occasionally circumstances though that affected what could be done at any point - for example a certain model of lamp I requested wasn't available, so I had to get a different one; in another case one of the bulbs burned out and I had to reach out to get it replaced. The final thing is that Joshua follows through. The mulch for the back was delayed due to an inventory issue and I hadn't heard from him after the work for a number of weeks, but then he called me when the items came back in and scheduled the follow-up. The point is: if you need something from him, don't be afraid to reach out. The work was quite costly but I think that you get what you pay for and when you go with Harris & Co., you get a lot."

"Services were performed as requested. The company's crew showed up on Mondays on a regular basis to cut our lawn. The irrigation system malfunctioned early in the summer resulting in large bare patches. The irrigation folks were obviously not informed as the lawn mowers kept mowing as the bare spots appeared and grew."

"I Used them for firewood and received the worst wood I’ve ever seen - mostly super short and full of wet, rotting wood and bark. I was also told it was a full cord even though it seemed quite short. After pulling what I could salvage I finally hired someone else to haul away the last 20% - anything to get it out of my driveway. When I told them it wasn’t great looking wood Riley responded that it was “good wood for burning”, and he couldn’t help me “if I was buying for the ambience”. Called Kathy and complained about wood quality - was told they would send me a $100 refund (spent $315 on wood, plus $30 to another guy haul it away). I would never buy wood from them again. If they’d rip me off on firewood, I’d hesitate to trust them for anything else."

"Spring clean-up was good. Some branches of a ground cover evergreen were broke & sheered(discovered later that spring). The estimate included debris removal, but that was lost in translation, never got done. Our yard is a 3rd of an acre including the house's foundation, yet it took 8 yds of mulch. Well, that's what we were charged, anyway. Word to the wise, always insist on a bill with your name on it from the wholesaler supplying the mulch to make sure you're getting what you pay for! Especially, if it's being dispensed from the back of a truck! We used to order 3 yds. of mulch and have it delivered. So, I know what 3 yrds of mulch can cover. We would then distribute the mulch throughout the yard. It seemed to be sufficient. So, when you find yourself weeding beds when you paid for a lot of mulch you've got to wonder, did I really get 8 yds of mulch? In my opinion, I don't think so. We also had a couple of trees cut down to the ground with the understanding they would come back(when it was less busy) to plant a tree in the void created. Haven't heard from them since. I guess they don't always return to the scene. Kiril, you said you'd call me in June/July to plant that tree, Remember? Updated 8/7/2019: rebuttal to provider's response Review Text: We discussed the pile of brush during your initial visit and it was supposed to be part of your estimate. When you finished the original job, the pile of brush was still there. I pointed that out to you and at that time you said that would be a separate charge. I let it go. Did you include the 2 yds of mulch you claimed you had in your truck from a previous job? Your paperwork doesn't prove anything! If there was 3" to 4" of mulch in the beds, there would be no weeds. Not with 5 yds. or 8 yds. on less than a 3rd of an acre. You called me a couple of weeks ahead of your scheduled appt. to say you had a day free and wanted to do the mulch. I should have realized something was up. No, I'm not changing my review, because in my opinion I did not get what I paid for."

"I contracted with Brian Kelly to remove and replace the existing front entrance stairs and walkway to my home. I couldn't be happier with the great job he and Shane did. They totally rebuilt the stairway and finished it with bluestone and stone veneer. The walkway, which was pea-stone was replaced with pavers. Both the stairs and walkway were sealed. The result is what you see in the attached pics, but I must admit, it looks way better when you're standing on it! They cleaned up every day, were punctual and professional. This was my 2nd time doing business with Kelly Masonry, and won't be my last! Thanks Brian and Shane!"

"We needed to upgrade our wood flooring in our kitchen after years of wear and tear. Patrick his team were easy to work with and reliable. Their attention to detail and communication throughout the process was great and I would definitely hire them again for other home projects."

"We have lived on Daniel Island, SC for over seven years and in that time, we have hired dozens of contractors for various projects and maintenance tasks. With a few exceptions our experiences have been generally positive but John Syrjala Jr. is far and away the best contractor we have ever worked with. The primary project was to replace a wooden staircase with a brick one. I was expecting that building a brick staircase would be significantly more expensive than a wood replacement but Mr. Syrjala’s bid was actually less than some of the wood-based bids. Without reservation I can say that Mr. Syrjala’s prices are very reasonable! Mr. Syrjala is an amazing, professional mason who works carefully and takes no shortcuts. The demolition of the old staircase was accomplished quickly, there was no mess and he carted away all the old material. He then dug and poured a cement footing, despite it being a relatively small area he used enough rebar to support a major structure. He found brick that was a perfect match to our 12-year-old home and did a beautiful job of building the stairs. During the two weeks he worked at our home there was never a time that there was any mess and he left the area around the project site looking better than before he started. The stairs look great! We also had Mr. Syrjala complete a hardscape project for us and construct some foundation piers, this work was done to the same high standards and at very reasonable cost. We recommend Mr. Syrjala without reservation, and are confident that you would have an equally positive experience."

"They came right right out to give me a quote and was able to schedule service in less than a week. They were able to clear out the entire area of brush in no time at all. Will definitely be using them again if another project comes up."

FAQs for interlocking pavers for driveways & floors installation projects in East Sandwich, MA

With proper maintenance, permeable pavement can last for over 20 years. Bi-annual vacuuming prevents clogs from debris and sediment, extends the pavement’s lifespan, and helps you avoid costly driveway repairs. Permeable pavement often has a shorter lifespan in areas with heavy traffic or harsh weather conditions.

Pervious and porous usually refer to pouring asphalt or concrete—which is a single massive object—but with enough small holes to allow for even drainage. This is also sometimes called thirsty concrete. Permeable concrete pavers are precast concrete designed to also allow for drainage. Permeable grass pavers allow grass to grow through them and provide drainage.

Pervious, porous, and permeable pavers are similar because they make it easier for rain or snow to drain or absorb into the ground rather than overload the storm or sewer systems.

The most significant benefit of water-permeable pavement is that it helps precipitation absorb better (and slower) into the ground, which avoids overloading sewers and causing overflows and backups. It also helps recharge the groundwater and prevent agricultural runoff from lawns.

If you’ve ever seen water rushing into a storm drain, permeable pavement prevents that. Instead of water running off a steep driveway, a good amount of it “soaks” directly underneath the pavement.

Topmix permeable concrete costs $8 to $16 per square foot, including all installation costs. However, they give out estimates on a project-by-project basis. However, Tarmac, the company that made the product, no longer produces Topmix.

Ecoraster is a brand that offers many different permeable paving options in North America. Prices vary depending on the product and project. They’ll give estimates for each individual project. While not actual pavers, these grids serve a similar function. Ecoraster grids come in various styles and allow for similar drainage compared to permeable pavers or porous paving.

Permeable driveways may cost slightly more than a traditional paving type, but they reduce or eliminate the need to install any other type of drainage system. Drainage systems cost $2,000 to $6,500 to install. They also reduce stormwater runoff, sewer overflows, and help eliminate urban agriculture runoff, which can pollute waterways.
