"Kyle with Feral 5 construction did excellent work in putting a new laminate flooring in our living space. The area had many odd angles, as well as circular cuts. Which he did a great job on. He was timely and considerate our wishes for the new flooring. His labor charges are on par with the going labor rate."

"James with JT roofing came out and quoted me on a full roof install. He was very professional and respectful. He gave me a few options and we decided on a metal roof. The quality of their workmanship is 100%. James and crew are the best in town. I have already recommended JT Roofing to all of my friends and family. Thank you JT Roofing"

"The work was done on schedule and within the estimated budget. In addition to completely removing a very steeply-pitched cedar shake roof, the original roof of the 100 plus year old house, the crew had to build the roof onto the house to meet building code. I chose a style and color and the crew of Pete Little Roofing did the massive amount of work. <br /> The crew  cleaned up at every step of the work, were very careful of my two golden retrievers who were in the yard part of the time, and when our insurance company requested that the ornamental shake siding also be replaced Pete Little subcontracted a man who did the siding removal and replacement at the agreed price and within the agreed time frame. <br /> When the job was complete the house looked fantastic.  I would recommend Little Roofing for any roof repair, replacement or just new construction. Excellent end result and very easy to work with. <br />"

"Eder and his crew from Light Roofing did an excellent job roofing my house. They responded to my request for a bid very promptly, the price was very fair, and they got to work as soon as the weather allowed, finishing in just two days. They obtained a building permit, presented evidence of both workers comp and liability insurance, and listened to and accommodated my explanation of the unique details related to my house (e.g. flat portion, roof jack penetrations, etc.). The roof looks very nice, it lowered my insurance premium by almost 20%, and -- as of the first snowfall -- no longer leaks. I would very much recommend Light Roofing to other homeowners. If you would like to see my new roof, contact Eder at Light Roofing and he'll tell you where it is."

"The replacement of the unit went great. Walker heating and air technicians showed up early with a new unit they picked up ready to work. They did a professional job on the unit installation and a great job of cleaning up. The installation took about 7 hours and they then explained how it worked, the warranty, and what maintenance would be needed. They answered all the questions I had and provided contact info should I have any problems. The ac works great and the family is glad. I would recommend Walker heating and air to everyone."

"Well, the first time the replacement was ordered it was the wrong one, which of course, delayed the installation a week. When it was finally installed I had to pay an additional $850 for code upgrades. This I was not informed of by Home Shield. Then we noticed that there was water on the garage floor and found that the pipe coming in from the wall was leaking at the wall so had to call the plumbing company back out to fix it. They first tried to say it was not their fault but since there wasn't a leak before they installed they did fix it. I have used Home Shield a few times before and never had a problem. Some of the companies they use are not the best so you have to research them before you commit. I have found HS service to be good if you do your homework. At the end of the day I was without hot water for almost 3 weeks but it was do to the plumbing company they sent out."

FAQs for heating cable for roof installation projects in East Helena, MT

A typical heat cable uses 5 watts per foot, regardless of the outside temperature. So, if your cable is 100 feet long, it uses 500 watts per hour. Expect to pay an additional $40 to $200 or more per month on your electricity bill. Be sure to turn manual cables off in the summer when you don't need them.

To install heat tape on your roof, place it along the lower edge in a precise zig-zag pattern to maximize coverage and heat distribution. Professional installers secure the tape with specialized clips that attach firmly to your shingles. This method ensures even heat distribution to effectively melt ice and snow while maintaining your roof's integrity during severe winter conditions.

Choosing between heated gutters and roof heating cables usually comes down to budget, appearance, and performance. Heated gutters cost less to install and blend seamlessly with your home’s exterior, making them a discreet, lower-cost option for preventing ice dams. Roof heating cables deliver more customizable and powerful heat along roof edges to handle heavy snow and ice, but they require more material and labor, increasing your upfront investment. Evaluate your roof design, winter weather demands, and energy budget to select the system that works best for your property.

Roof heating cables prevent ice dams by melting snow and stopping ice buildup at the roof edge. Ice damming occurs when melting snow refreezes on a cold roof—often right above the gutter line—and blocks water from draining, which can force moisture under shingles into your home. Heating cables maintain a warm channel that clears ice dams as soon as they form and protects your roof from water damage and structural issues.

Roof heating cables last between two and ten years before replacement is needed, wearing out faster than your roof itself. Their lifespan depends on climate severity, cable type, and exposure to physical damage. Consistent inspections and preventative maintenance—such as clearing debris, tightening clips, and checking electrical connections—can extend their service life and ensure reliable snow and ice protection each winter.

To safely remove snow from your roof, start with a specially designed roof rake, standing firmly on the ground and pulling snow downhill rather than climbing onto the roof. You can also apply calcium chloride ice melt to break up stubborn ice or gently use a secured rope from a safe vantage point.

Keep in mind that large snow slabs can weigh hundreds of pounds and pose a serious fall risk. If conditions are hazardous or you lack the right equipment, hire a professional to protect your safety and your roof’s integrity.
