"Since I had previously been very impressed with Salvador Gallardo / Authentic Landscape on an urgent repair for our leaking irrigation valve system, I called on him again for my long dreamed of overhaul of our entire front and back yard beginning May 22, 2024. He advertises "You can be sure that you will receive quality work with a personal touch" which is exactly what I needed. I had a rather vague plan and relied on his expertise to help develop my dream. The major goal was to completely remove all the turf, leaving only the trees, a grape arbor (which Salvador needed to redesign and expand), and a couple areas of plants. We used a turf replacement rebate and he and Jesus, plus his sons Christian and Jesse, spent 2 weeks digging out all the nasty weeds and a several-inch layer of dirt. Our irrigation system was converted to sprinklers for the garden areas and drip lines around the outer areas of trees and original landscape plants plus a new control unit. Some of the trees required some pruning also. It was fun working with Salvador to figure just where my front and back “gardens” and pebble pathways would go. We added slabs of flagstone around the front and back faucets and replaced the remaining area with shredded wood. Additionally, he replaced one entire gate and had to redesign and repair of my second gate. My back garden is essentially a lawn replacement of ground cover plants, and the front garden utilized a lot of succulents and several other plants dug out and from my pots plus lots of poppy seeds. We added some ground cover and a variety of other plants I found on clearance sales. We incorporated my collection of granite rocks, and I’ve continued detailing with decorative features to make my “Never Too Late For A Happy Childhood” theme garden with fairy, farm, lighthouse, and Santa and reindeer areas, lots of solar lights/fireworks, windchimes, spinners, toys and sculptures, While reasonably priced, it was an expensive project but, after 20 years of dreaming, so worth the smile I can’t quit. Obviously I continue to highly recommend Salvador and Authentic Landscape. The guys worked very hard and were a pleasure to have around. Being able to make well advised adjustments as work progressed was a great advantage to accomplishing my desires."

"Alex Flores provided our family with outstanding service regarding the all aspects of our landscaping needs, including irrigation, sod, landscape design, landscape planting, and related pathways. Alex is among the most professional people we have worked with over many many years. His bid was competitive, his advice was excellent and the work he and his crew did was outstanding. Alex remains on-site with his crew through virtually all of the project, providing "hands-on" supervision of his hard working crew. Alex was always timely and left our property in neat and clean condition at the end of each day. In short, we would highly recommend Alex and his company (Hermanos Flores Gardening). "From start to finish, it was a great experience working with the team from Lavish Gardens. Robert really listened to me and partnered with me to create my vision for my front yard. Ruben and his crew took it from there. They were on time and so helpful. They kept things cleaned up too! The communication has been great and everyone met their commitments. How refreshing!"

"Steven and Miguel removed 3, 37 year old shrubs from my front yard and did a wonderful job. Both worked so hard and did a beautiful job. Price was very reasonably priced. Both of them were so nice Took them 2 days instead of 1 day because one of the shrubs grew all around the landscape irrigation pipe they really had a tuff job on that one but handled it very well. "

"Mark and the team did an outstanding job. Our drainage was a mess in several places. They methodically identified and cleared out each spot, replacing pipes and digging new trenches. They were very careful with our landscaping, making sure no plants were damaged in the process. They were respectful of our property and cleaned everything up before they concluded the job. I would definitely recommend them. "

FAQs for sod installation projects in Elverta, CA

Seeding costs less up front, but you’ll wait months—and sometimes a full season—for the grass to fill in. Sod costs more per square foot, yet it gives you an instant, usable lawn the day it’s installed and needs far less care during the first year.

If speed and early curb appeal matter, the higher sod price is often worth it; if you’re watching every dollar and don’t mind the wait, seed can still be a smart play.

Start by sketching your lawn and breaking it into rectangles or circles. Measure each section, multiply length by width, and then add all the sections together for the total square footage. Standard sod rolls are two feet by 1.5 feet, and one pallet covers 450 square feet.

Divide your total area by 450 to see how many pallets you need, then round up—extras come in handy for cutting around curves or mistakes. Still unsure? A local sod supplier or installer can confirm your math before you order.

Most sod grips the soil within 10 to 14 days. During that stretch, keep foot traffic to a minimum and mow only if the grass gets tall. After two weeks, the roots should be strong enough for light use, but wait six weeks before heavy play or frequent mowing. Giving the grass that short honeymoon helps it anchor firmly and sets the stage for a durable, healthy lawn.

Give your new lawn two full weeks before any foot traffic, then stick to light use only. Hold off on vigorous play, parties, or regular mowing until the six-week mark so the roots can dig deep. Keep watering on schedule and watch for any dry patches. A little patience now means stronger turf and fewer repairs later.

Keep an eye on color, moisture, and even growth. Fresh sod should stay uniformly green; brown spots or gaps hint at dry soil or poor contact. Water deeply at least once a day for the first week (more in hot weather) and back off gradually after the roots take. Avoid heavy foot traffic until the grass feels firmly anchored. Quick attention to trouble spots now prevents costly patches later.

Aim for spring or early fall when daytime temps hover between 55°F and 80°F. Mild weather and consistent moisture help the roots knit quickly. Laying sod in midsummer can stress the grass, while frozen winter soil blocks rooting altogether.

If you must install outside the ideal window, budget extra time for watering and tending to the turf. Choosing the right season makes the job easier and the lawn tougher.
