"The quality of work was great. All of the workers were exactly what you would hope for. We had work on an exterior wall, interior wall, sliding patio door replaced, new vinyl flooring by two doors, lots of wallpapering, and carpet replaced, requiring different workmen on different days, stretching the completion time over a few months."

"Extremely poor. I don't often write reviews. Like most people, if a contractor meets my expectations and does a good job, I don't take the time to write a review. I felt the need to write this one. We have had several contractors work on our house in the last year as we went through some upgrades. I did decide to write reviews for the ones that went above and beyond in terms of expectations. Unfortunately this is NOT one of those. Got 3 estimates and chose "Just in Time Painting" because Justin told me he had worked for bigger companies and branched out on his own 5 years ago. I like giving new young businesses a chance, so I went with him. MISTAKE. He needs more experience in both professionalism and quality. I, the homeowner, had to point out blatant quality issues that should have never happened.... flaking paint that I could get up with my fingernail AFTER they scraped, painting over flaking paint, not adequate coverage, areas not painted at all. It was extremely frustrating. When he said they would be done by the afternoon of the first day, I questioned their optimism and speed and said I was very concerned about the quality of the job, not the time. You simply can't do a quality job on 50 windows in a few hours but that was their plan. They did slow down and took another day but it was still shoddy and I am STILL finding areas that were completely missed. I work in commercial design/construction so I know quality painting and have seen it many times. This was not it. He kept telling me to "wait for the final product"..... in painting you can't ignore the process.... the prep work and inspection of the prep work is the key to successful repainting of any old surfaces. He also told me that the parts of the window that were previously painted but didn't show when the window is closed is "extra" and not part of typical window painting. Wait/what? So when you open the sash/casement only 1/2 of the sill would be painted? NOT typical. I do NOT recommend them.... and I don't say that often. Maybe they would be OK on an interior wall with no trim but not on windows for sure! Sorry....I hope you can improve your quality so you can survive as a business. If they would like to come back and do a better job, I will edit/remove my review but I rely on reviews and assume others do too, so this was important to say.... A few pictures to show the "finished product". I would have stopped payment of the check but he quickly cashed it."

FAQs for deck staining or painting projects in Erie, PA

When you paint your deck, you can choose any color, and cleanup is easy, but the paint hides the natural wood grain. Stain, on the other hand, lets the wood grain shine through, but requires more maintenance. The cost to seal a deck is about the same as painting. Consider your personal preferences to see which option benefits you most.

For bare wood or cement decks, you only need to clean the surface before applying the first coat of paint. If you're recoating an existing finish, you'll need to pressure wash the deck to remove chipped paint and debris. Either way, make sure to allow the surface to fully dry before moving forward; otherwise, the finish could peel.

A gallon of paint covers between 125 and 300 square feet, depending on its formula. Since your deck might need two coats of paint, for a standard 300-square-foot deck, you might need two to four gallons. If you're painting a pool deck, keep in mind that the specialized non-slip paint covers less area because the texturized material takes up more space in the can.

Yes, you can paint directly over old deck paint if the existing finish is in excellent condition. You should inspect the surface to ensure there's no cracking, peeling, or chipping before proceeding. If you notice any deterioration, you'll need to remove the compromised paint. Clean your deck thoroughly with a power washer, lightly sand any rough spots, and use the same type of paint to guarantee proper adhesion and long-lasting performance.

Yes, applying a coat of primer before painting your deck is essential unless you're using a combined 2-in-1 formula. Primer enhances the adhesion of the new paint, establishes a moisture barrier, and creates a smooth, uniform surface. Be sure to inspect your deck for any defects or old finishes, and use a high-quality primer to fully prepare the surface for a durable and pristine finish.
