"A+++++ on their part. We got bids from four other companies as well (5 in total). We only had a vague idea of what we wanted ("back yard retreat" and to make the backyard not look embarrasing anymore). One company never showed up to give us a bid, a couple of the other companies seemed okay and would have been fine, but we felt that Andy at Weilbacher Landscaping spent the most time with us helping us decided what we wanted. He was at our home for almost an hour showing us different options and asking us questions. Some of the other estimators were only here a short period. In fairness, they were pleasant and seemed knowledgable, but didn't dig into our needs quite the way Andy did. We received his estimate via email THE NEXT DAY! I was amazed. Some of the other estimates took over a week and a half to get back to us. Even after receiving all the estimates, I still couldnt visualize what the project was going to look like. I let Andy know this and the next day he came BACK out to our house, took some pictures and said he would work up a computerized landscape design. Two days later I received an email from him containing the pictures/images that he created from the photos he took of our back yard showing what the project would look like after it was complete (and he provided a "what it will look like in 3 years" view also!! It showed the plants after they matured... very helpful since my cost cutting was by going with the smallest/cheapest plants available). He charged us $60 for the landscape design, but it was worth every penny. I did receive designs from the other estimators too, one provided a hand drawn sketch looking ontop of the project (totally not helpful for me) since he did not do the computerized design, another did provide a free computerized landscape design for us, but it was not at all the quality of the one Andy provided us. It was very cartoonish looking, and not realistic. I asked this landscaper if he could make it like Andy's, and he said that it was simply due to the difference in quality of the software used (Andy said he uses pro landscape, the other guy said he used landscape pro... similar names, but the results were very different. Since I assumed innitially they were the same thing, I looked it up online, the first one is an expensive professional program, the second was a walmart purchase). Anyway, I'm a huge fan of the computerized landscape design because it really showed us what we were getting (and the project really did end up looking just like the picture, I was totally amazed). They were able to schedule our job quickly, they were always prompt, answered our questions quickly (very very resonsive), and they did an absolutely beautiful job on our back yard. I love sitting out there now, and it's definitely a place we can entertain (and not be embarrased of!). They finished the job in less than a week. All the crew members were very polite and respectful. I never felt weird or uncomfortable around them, all clean, well kept, well mannered nice men. One of the crew members, I believe his name was Dale, even took a second to help me unload my groceries during his lunch break. I didnt even ask him to, he offered. They were all so very polite and well mannered. My husband thought he messed part of the pond pump up, and Andy came out that evening to check it out (all was fine). The price came up to be exactly what the estimate had said. My husband keeps telling people how impressed he is with the "fine craftmanship", and I have to agree that they did a high quality. Price wise, they weren't the cheapest, but after we weighted all the bids, we were happy to pay a little extra to feel more confident in the company doing the work. They also weren't the most expensive, the range in estimates were 16,5K to 24K. I innitially got a bid from Weilbacher Landscaping on a referal from my sister. She had a large retaining wall (10' tall by 20' wide) installed by them at her house, and she could not say enough positive things about them (she lives in Belleville, IL and I'm over in Clayton, MO). After my experience, I have to say that their level of customer service, reliablitiy, quality, and overall experience is much higher than any landscape company I've ever experienced."

FAQs for lawn care aeration projects in Farmington, MO

Aeration is the best way to keep your lawn healthy and vibrant. Annual aeration makes your lawn more breathable and helps nutrients reach the roots, improving water absorption and reducing puddles where pests might breed. However, timing matters. It's best to avoid aerating during droughts, extreme heat, or if your lawn is battling weeds. A local pro can help you determine the ideal time for your yard.

Most lawns benefit from annual aeration to keep them healthy and thriving. If your lawn has a lot of thatch buildup—more than half an inch—you might need to aerate twice a year for a couple of years to get it under control. But if your soil isn't compacted and there's minimal thatch, you might be able to skip a year.

When you hire a professional lawn care company, a standard 10,000-square-foot lawn takes about 30 minutes to aerate. Uneven, sloped, or especially large lawns can take significantly more time. So, depending on your lawn's size and condition, the process can take anywhere from half an hour to several hours.

The best time to aerate your lawn is during the spring or fall when your grass is actively growing and the soil has enough moisture. Aerating once in the spring and once in the fall yields the best results. Avoid aerating when your lawn is dormant or right after heavy rain when the soil is too wet—that can make aeration less effective.

Even if your lawn looks healthy, aeration can still be beneficial. If you have good growth, proper drainage, and little thatch, you might not need to aerate right away. Regular aeration helps water and nutrients reach the roots, keeping your lawn strong over time. Keep an eye on your lawn's condition to decide when it might need aeration.
