Hello there! I'm a Saint Charles/Saint Louis native and an experienced carpenter and remodeller of 17 years! Been in my own business since 2022. I love to do beautiful work at reasonable prices. I am focused on design-minded small construction and carpentry--this means that I am not primarily so focused on flashy features and the newest updates, and more focused on how I can create a project with you that makes sense with your specific house and it's architectural design. I love working with wood the most but really love doing most anything on a home and happy to do handyman work here and there as well. Please reach out so we can start a conversation! I'm happy to offer advice on how to navigate the construction industry or send you phone numbers of other great guys if you need other services. I focus on approachability and a down to earth experience. I love doing good work, i'm easy to deal with and show up when I say I will. Would love to work with you!

"My roofers dropped a harness through the ridge of 1.7 million dollar house resulting in an impact mark on the heavily textured ceiling. It would have cost me 20k to fix the drywall and paint the ceiling including scaffolding. Greg with Local Handyman came in and was totally professional, when he was done you could not even see there was ever damage there. He saved me over 19 plus k. The homeowner would not stop talking about how professional Greg was and I agreed. When I spoke to the owners of Handyman I told them what the homeowner said and I told them how I felt the same. I’m a General Contractor and I have them doing two jobs for me, one this Thursday and the next one is scheduled for next Monday. If you want someone who knows how to do the work you need, will treat you with respect, and transparency Local Handyman is the company to hire. Like I said I’m a General Contractor and they will continue to work for me when I can use there services!"

"I enjoyed Mark’s polite demeanor and how he showed me unanticipated issues that surfaced based on the original construction of the deck. The repairs were of excellent quality both visible and the under pinning support. I will definitely be calling Mark in the future. "

FAQs for wood stairs and railings repair projects in Fenton, MO

Hiring a pro to refinish wooden stairs means labor makes up 20% to 30% of your total budget. That price covers sanding, staining, and sealing each step. In most cases, a certified refinisher can tackle a 10-step staircase in about two hours, then apply stain and sealant for a durable, eye-catching finish that stands up to daily traffic.

A pro can sand a standard 10-step staircase in roughly two hours, then needs another four to six hours for each coat of stain and sealant to dry. DIYers should budget up to a week for sanding, staining, and sealing in stages. With a crew on site, the bulk of the work is completed in a single day, minimizing disruptions while still achieving a high-quality finish.

It’s possible to refinish stairs without full-scale sanding by using chemical strippers, power buffers, or simply layering a fresh finish over the existing coat. Chemical strippers break down old stains and sealants, while buffers quickly shave off surface material. Even so, a quick hand-sand with fine-grit paper helps the new finish bond properly and look smooth. As always, suit up in protective gear and follow product directions to keep your wood—and yourself—safe.

For most stair projects, you’ll want two sandpaper grits. Begin with 80- to 120-grit to strip the old finish and even out rough spots, then move to 150- to 220-grit for a smooth, ready-for-stain surface. A power sander speeds up the coarse pass, but switches to hand sanding with the fine grit in corners and along edges to keep abrasion even and give stain or sealer something to grab onto.
