"Everything with american standard roofing went great. Their pricing was right in line (or less) than the other 3 quotes I received. The guy giving the estimate did not have a hard sales pitch or some stupid slide show on a tablet. They simply quoted the job and let me make a decision with out any pressure. When it came to install day they came with a massive crew and had all of the work completed within the same day. I had a lot of decking boards that were rotted and needed to be replaced as well. The new roof looks great and it does not leak."

"Initially, there were a few issues due to technical difficulties and complexity of the roof job.  After some discussions with GLR team, they came out several times to consult on the technical issues and ultimately resolved every single detail without charging us a ton of extra costs.  After all is said and done, James Weiss is not only a fair and honest..... He's helpful and pretty good guy. <br />"

"Roof Advance was very prompt in coming out which was important since rain/snow was in the weather forecast The person who did the repair was kind enough to take some photos of the lost shingle area with my camera so I could submit a claim to the shingle manufacturer. The claim was successful and covered the full cost of the repair work."

"Arrived on time, was able to locate quickly the source of the leak on the roof, repaired properly. We don't have any leak since more than a year now, so proof that repair worked well."

"I highly recommend Roof-Rite based on my experience with them recently. I called and left a message to ask if they repaired skylights. I got a very quick call back and talked with a very nice lady who said they did and someone would contact me shortly. She said that it might be a few days, which was fine, but I appreciated the honesty. As she said, I was contacted by Mark who arranged to come by and take a look. He arrived on time and fixed the leak right then, after telling me the cost, which was very reasonable. He said it would be good to recaulk all of the skylights and he inspected other things on the roof, caulking where needed. I waited to do this review until after a storm and I am so pleased. I am leak-free for the first time in many many years (other companies came out and said they fixed them, but they did not). Thanks Roof-Rite, I will be calling you for my roof replacement in the future."

"When Napier's came to house for estimate ( 20 min. after calling ! ) I joined him on the roof . Floyd Napier explained the process and type of materials they would use and why the system would be the best choice . I had concerns with keeping a flat roof and was considering having conventional rafters installed at a pitch that would allow shingles to be used so as to match the majority of the roof . Floyd explained in more detail and showed me how he used the same flat roof system on his own home . I ended up with 2 quotes and chose the flat , mostly due to Floyd's explanations ( price difference was also a factor but I have no regrets after seeing the work ) . Workers arrived on Oct 10, 2015 working till dusk and completing Oct 11 at dusk - cleanup was done each day . <br /> Workers were amazing- polite , considerate , neat , NO music , or loud talking . Answered all questions , showed diagrams and  <br /> explained how materials were being applied and why . I have never hired or witnessed a better company . I have myself worked  <br />  with carpenters , electricians , plumbers , roofers and masons . I have also worked as a building inspector . I suspect that there are other quality roofers in this area but I have not personally experienced any as thorough as Napiers was on this job - which was for my mother in law's newly purchased home . I plan on future work on this home as well as my own and will be consulting with Napier's before any other company is considered . I highly recommend anyone considering a roofing contractor to consider contacting Napier's for a bid , I have no regrets . As for the one bad review in Flat Rock .....nothing bad said about Napier's work done  , only about collection ?  <br />  I have met Dan and Floyd and cannot see the behavior described in the review . Nobody that I encountered during this roofing job- on the phone or in person - exhibited anything by exceptional behavior. I had never heard of Napier's before this job.   Napier's was recommended to me by Custom Fencing in Riverview, MI...to whom I am now extremely grateful. <br />"

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Ferndale, MI

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
