bluehouse architecture focuses on the interactive and collaborative design process working with both the owner to create a project that satisfies and exceeds expectations. Working with the owner to gain an understanding of his needs and requirements and communicating with the contractor to identify a solution that is possible within the work space are critical components of this process. This involves more than simply developing architectural drawings. Rather, from the beginning of a project, bluehouse develops a solid relationship based upon open communication among all parties. bluehouse actively guides the client through all the stages of design, from the initial meeting where the project parameters are defined, through creating the schematic design and developing completed construction/permit drawings.
"I came to Melissa & Bluehouse a number of years ago as I couldn't visualize the layout to accomplish my goals in what began as a kitchen remodel. Melissa's impeccable handling of my project from the word "go" is nothing but an understatement! Each and every detail I listed from want's & desires to fears & concerns were addressed. Living up to her word every step of the way, Melissa addressed my list while pointing out elements I hadn't thought of. She was aware of my limits and not only kept her bottom line under control, but she didn't design anything out of our budget. Considering we were on track to break ground in the spring of 2020, when Covid hit & supply chains derailed our start, Melissa was poised to do whatever needed to be done. In the end, rising costs & limited supply led us to delay construction until Jan. '23. As a TV news producer, I'm a tough cookie, and yet when I had questions, Melissa answered them honestly and often with visuals to help me understand what I needed to learn. I appreciated her teamwork attitude when working with the Structural Engineers let alone my amazing contractor! Melissa's perfectionism is the reason not one single measurement needed to be modified in what became not just a kitchen remodel, but a 1st-floor remake with our addition going both upstairs & down. When you consider who to hire, consider this, as a newswoman, I interview 3 people for every job, I don't cut corners and nothing gets swept under the rug. Melissa is THAT kind of pro! She is going to do right by you, because she knows what is at stake, and she is only going to put her name on something she stands behind. For that, and a million little reasons, without question, if I had another project, I'd hire her in a heartbeat!"

Owner Stephanie Brick is passionate about transposing homeowners’ dreams and visions into realities. As a licensed architect specializing in custom kitchen design for 15+ years in the DMV, she is known for creating designs that fit their context and respond to client needs, wants, and budget—versus imprinting a signature style—resulting in a client satisfaction rate nearly double the national average. Stephanie Brick Design is a one-stop, design-build firm for all your kitchen design and remodeling needs. Projects range from small city rowhomes to suburban mansions, budget-friendly updates to luxury design, and a la carte consultations to “soup-to-nuts” design-build packages. Our years of expertise and client-centric design approach make it easy to accommodate a range of needs and budgets. As flexibility is a core value, we have in-house contractors, a trades referral list, or are happy to just provide design services and/or cabinets.
"Architect & designer, Stephanie Brick, has been so great to work with! I highly recommend her if you are looking for someone who is capable, efficient, & will lessen the stress of any project. About 8 years ago she helped us remodel our bathroom. She knew exactly what she was doing & helped guide us thru the process. I still remember standing in a tile showroom, totally overwhelmed by the choices. I called Stephanie, at a loss of what to choose, & within 10 minutes she had reassured me & reframed my task in a new way that gave me clear inspiration. I was placing my tile order within half an hour! Stephen was so good at her job that she somehow ended up making me feel proud of what I'd done! 🤩 Mind you, this was all done with us in CA & Steph in MD. But doing the job long-distance was worth it, because of the quality, design, & integrity Steph brought to the job. We loved our experience so much that she's now designing our kitchen! I would recommend Stephanie with no reservation. "

Kyle Hodges, the owner and sole proprietor of Azaleas to Zinnias, has been affiliated with the company for nearly 15 years. Throughout those years he has developed a wide-based knowledge of everything from plants, plant and hardscape design, natural stonework, pavers and water features, just to name a few, through avenues not limited to hands-on and in-class training. He strives hard to incorporate our clients' wants and needs into designs, as well as educate and guide clients to choices best suited to their individual properties. His enthusiasm for developing long-term client relationships really shows. Richard Wike, the founder of Azlaeas to Zinnias, started the company in 1989 and now works as a consultant. We are experienced in all phases of garden design, installation, lighting, hardscapes, maintenance, and container plantings. No project is too small, and the attention to detail and customer wishes are evident in all our work. Succession of color of flowers, foliage and textures is an important feature that we incorporate to make our gardens unique. In addition, we like to form a collaborative relationship with a client that can last years through garden transitions and changes. We love what we do ...And it shows!
"Wonderfully! They did an Outstanding job for me. They trimmed the bushes and trees nicely, weeded, and mulched beautifully, with clean, cut edges between the mulch and lawn. They arrived before 8 am on the appointed day and beautified my home exterior for the photo shoot 3 days later. Am very pleased."

A professional kitchen designer is a specialist in planning and implementing the remodel of kitchen spaces. They'll help you pick materials and styles, give you a quote, render a model, and send the order to manufacturers and installers. You can think of them as creative project managers who will facilitate your kitchen project from start to finish.
No, a kitchen designer can't plan for structural remodeling since kitchen designers aren’t structural experts. Consult a pro for structural engineer fees and inquire about changes like removing a wall. Additionally, for changes to your kitchen's electrical, plumbing, or gas lines, you'll need to hire the appropriate professionals, like a licensed electrician or plumber near you.
A kitchen designer’s process includes the following:
Finding inspiration: They may ask for photos, feedback on material samples, and preferred fittings to understand your vision.
Using design tools: These include computer modeling software, 3D and high-resolution cameras for recording your space, color wheels, and sketches.
Considering appliances and fixtures: It’s important that each item is installed correctly, balances aesthetics and functionality, and is conveniently positioned in a kitchen work triangle.
Looking at the whole home: A designer will consider your home's age and style.
Writing up plans: After taking measurements, they create a plan based on your specifications.
It takes anywhere from 10 to 20 hours for a professional kitchen designer to come up with a fully fleshed-out plan for a mid-size kitchen. However, that time can increase if you ask for a complex, custom-designed plan. Ask your designer for a quote on both pricing and overall time frame before you start working together to ensure you're on the same page with expectations.
If you're doing an extensive kitchen renovation, hire a kitchen designer to manage the project and ensure things go smoothly for you. A major renovation may include new flooring, countertops, cabinets, lighting, and structural changes like knocking out a wall or upgrading the electrical, plumbing, or gas lines. If you're doing something more minor, like only replacing a sink or painting your cabinets, you can either pay for installation or DIY.
