Small jobs welcome

"B&K Home Improvement took my breezeway from “Wow.” in a bad way to“WOW!” in a good way. When we bought our house, it was being sold as a tear down. We gutted and updated the living areas but the breezeway was a job that was too big for us to take on ourselves. B&K tore up the crumbling concrete floor and poured a beautiful, dyed and polished one. They took our outdated, brittle window wall and updated the entire front of our house by replacing it with an entry door and windows that give a cozy cottage vibe. The back wall of the room now boasts an oversized sliding door that provides a clear view to our colorful backyard gardens. From the first point of contact, B&K have provided efficient, cost effective service that leaves no detail to question. They were incredibly patient with me as I took my time making decisions and were super helpful when I requested guidance. The men who provided the skilled labor were always laughing which made having them around a pleasure. B&K is unmatched."

"First, I had Jim Bisgrove install a glass screne door, which he did a fabulous job. Second, he built me from scratch a fire place mantel, which is just gorgeous. I will definitely be calling him back for more work. Jim and his wife are great people to work with! Thank you for the wonderful work!"

Customers say: Quick response

"Our journey with Darren began on Jan 27, 25 when we reached out for a kitchen remodel quote. After meeting several contractors, Darren stood out—especially when he said, “I want to get a 5-star rating from my clients.” That sincerity won us over. The project started with the kitchen and living room, but soon expanded to remodeling our entire first floor—new cabinets, tearing down a wall, relocating gas, installing appliances, redoing the powder room, and more. Darren and Steve make a fantastic team. They were professional, detail-oriented, and always communicated clearly. Darren’s persistence to get things just right was impressive. Friends who visited commented on the great finishing touches. That alone made us feel it was all worth it. We had a wonderful experience and would highly recommend Darren to anyone looking to remodel their kitchen or pat of their home. Thank you, Darren and Steve, for bringing our vision to life! "He was amazing. He replaced my ceiling fan in the dining room, replaced my kitchen faucet and fixed my toilet that was not flushing correctly. I also added a few things that I needed done and he completed my list. Everything looks amazing and he was very neat and tidy. It’s really hard to find a good handyman and he is the best!"

FAQs for doors (interior) installation and replacement projects in Frankfort, IL

If your existing frame is in good shape, you can replace an interior door without changing the frame. This is a budget-friendly option because it saves on the cost of removing and installing a new frame. By choosing a slab door that fits your current frame, you'll save on labor and materials. Just make sure the new door matches the old one's dimensions for a smooth replacement.

Standard interior doors are 80 inches tall and range from 28 to 32 inches wide. Interior doors vary from 24 to 36 inches wide, depending on their purpose and the available space. Building codes require interior doors to be at least 80 inches tall and 24 inches wide. Knowing standard sizes helps you select a new door that fits properly in your existing opening.

It costs $600 to $2,000 or more to move an inside door. The total price depends on your location, the type of door, and materials needed to complete the project. Moving an interior door requires walling up the leftover space and opening up a new wall where you want the door to go instead. You’ll also want to plan for the expense of framing the new wall opening and adding trim.

Exterior door installation costs an average of $1,175, with a typical range of $525 to $1,800. The higher expense compared to the cost of interior doors comes from the need for exterior doors to be weather-proofed and they are often made of thicker, more durable materials. The associated exterior hardware must also be able to withstand harsh weather, so these cost more as well.

It costs between $300 to $2,500 to make a doorway wider on average. However, the wider you need the space to be, the more it will cost. Some homeowners choose to widen interior doorways to make the house more wheelchair accessible. In order to be wheelchair accessible, an interior door needs to be at least 32 to 36 inches wide. Also, some older homes just have narrow doorways due to the nature of how homes were built differently many decades ago.

It takes between two to five hours for a professional door installer to install an interior door, depending on complexity and materials. A pre-hung door typically takes around two hours, and larger doors like double French doors can take up to five hours. If you’re doing the project yourself, expect it to take a little longer than that, especially if you have little to no experience completing this type of project. Keep in mind that a pre-hung door can be installed about an hour or two faster than a slab door.
