"I am very pleased to have worked with Allen and Son's Tree Service to have three large trees removed, the stumps ground and some other large trees trimmed. Their crew arrived on-time, and they completed all of the work with efficiency and professionalism. They removed all debris and left the area very clean. The price quoted was reasonable, and there were no additional surprise charges. I highly recommend Allen and Son's Tree Service and will contact them in the future for additional work needed."

"I had 16 stumps removed. I am very pleased with the outcome. Some of the tree stumps had significant roots extending near ground level. The stump grinding was not only the stump but also the extending roots. A stump might have been 2 feet in diameter, but the grinding was 6 feet in diameter to get the roots."

"I contacted five tree removal companies to provide an estimate. The Greentree guy (I am sorry he verbally told me his name, but I have forgotten it).I provided him with my list of what exactly I wanted done and I accompanied him around the yard pointing out the trees and discussing the job. He seemed to know what he was talking about and provided me with what I thought was useful information. When we were finished, he verbally gave me an estimate and gave me some information about Greentree's schedule and openings. I thanked him for his time and he left. The estimate he gave me was the lowest estimate I received, however it was not written down nor did he provide me with any supporting paperwork like all the rest. It may just be me but I was someone uncomfortable with this approach to business. It may have worked out perfectly well if I had decided to go with Greentree, and maybe they are so busy they don't need to be more business like. In any case, despite the low estimate, I was just not comfortable with Greentree. Other's may feel differently."

"We have used Freestate to periodically trim our trees and always found Ben (owner) to be professional and more than fair in his pricing. When the heavy winds came through Friday a large tree split and a huge brach (more like a small tree - see photo) crashed down on our neighbor's roof, puncturing it. Our neighbor didn't know who to call so I called Ben. He happened to be in our neighborhood dealing with another downed tree and said he'd come over that night; and he did. The crew off-loaded some heavy machinery and promised to be back in the morning. Promise kept. By end of that day (Saturday) the branch was off the roof, the the split tree (a 70 footer) was down and the crew temporarily patched the neighbor's roof. While they were here I asked Ben to take down two other white pines that are notorious for shallow roots and fragile limbs. He did so at a great price. The neighbors and I are extremely satisfied. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!"

"We had not yet set a date for the tree to be trimmed, but weather opened up a spot, which was great. They followed the trimming that we had discussed at the reasonable price we had agreed upon and cleaned up nicely afterwards. I would hire this company again."

"We couldn't be happier. My neighbor and I had to cut down a tree between our houses that had grown a little out of control. After cutting down the tree, we needed someone to come to pick-up all of the tree limbs. I quickly found Dave on Angie's list and gave him a call on Sunday afternoon. I received a call from him Monday morning (he apologized profusely for not being able to get back to me on Sunday), and committed to come by on Wednesday afternoon to pick everything up.
I unfortunately wasn't home when Dave and his co-worker came by, but my wife was extremely happy with their work, stating that they were very cordial, and worked quickly. Dave and his crew went above and beyond simply loading the brush into their truck - they had to use a chainsaw to cut a few limbs to a smaller size, and even raked up the area of my yard where the limbs were to get up any additional sticks and leaves.
All in all, this was a great experience, and we will definitely use Dave in the future."

FAQs for tree stump removal projects in Freeland, MD

Always transport chainsaws with the engine off and chain brake engaged. Use the protective bar cover provided by the rental company to prevent accidental contact with the cutting chain. Position the chainsaw securely in your vehicle to prevent movement during transit, ideally in a truck bed or trunk rather than the passenger compartment.

For gas models, ensure the fuel cap is tight and position the saw to minimize potential leakage. Keep the chainsaw away from passengers and other items that could be damaged.

Proper safety equipment is essential when operating any chainsaw. At minimum, you should have eye protection (safety glasses or a face shield), hearing protection (earplugs or earmuffs), cut-resistant gloves, chainsaw chaps or pants, and sturdy boots with good traction.

Many rental facilities offer basic safety kits alongside chainsaw rentals. If you'll be using chainsaws regularly, investing in quality personal safety gear is advisable. Never operate a chainsaw without appropriate protective equipment, regardless of the job size.

While rental companies will rent chainsaws to beginners, inexperience significantly increases safety risks. If you've never used a chainsaw before, request a demonstration from the rental staff and thoroughly review the operator's manual before starting. Begin with smaller, more manageable cutting tasks to build comfort with the tool's operation.

For significant cutting jobs, consider either taking a chainsaw safety course first or hiring professionals instead. The learning curve for safe chainsaw operation is steep, and caution is paramount.

If mechanical problems develop during your rental, immediately cease operation and contact the rental company. Most reputable rental businesses will either provide a replacement chainsaw or repair the equipment if the breakdown resulted from normal use rather than misuse. Document the issue with photographs when possible and maintain records of when you reported the problem.

Having your rental agreement readily available when you call will expedite the resolution process. The rental company should adjust your rental period to account for any downtime.
