"They communicated what they were going to do, asked clarifying questions when needed, and proceeded with the job as requested. The stairs look AWESOME! I wish we would have got them done years ago. We get complements on them all the time. Thank you Jim and Russ!"

"I hired a painter out of the newspaper and he gave me a flyer to do all the things he was going to do. He didn't do any of them. I had to have my house painted for appraisal. After that experience, I called Angie's List for a list of painters. Beyond a doubt Four Seasons was the best. He brought it to my attention that there was lead based paint. He suggested that I call a company to detect if there is lead within the paint. Four Season is so knowlegeable and so precise."

"It went amazingly well! They did an exceptional job -- especially considering how old and worn the cabinets were. The kitchen looks wonderful, really transformed. I cannot say enough good things about Chuck Dolan and his co-worker. They are extremely hard workers, always prompt and very meticulous and conscientious. The project took longer than expected, and they definitely went the extra mile to make sure everything was done right. Their experience & expertise show in the quality of their work. I plan to have them do more work. Highly recommended!"

"It went great. We have remodeled three houses and always had bad experiences whenever we used a contractor. Kenny, owner of KTD Construction, is hands down the best contractor. His pricing is fair and often less than other competitors. He is always in contact with you throughout the project, which is rare. He is an exquisite carpenter and framer and his crew are all courteous and professional. He is a fast worker, gets the job done right and even hauls all project debris and cleans up after with great attention to customer satisfaction. Our neighbors even commented that it’s hard to find a good contractor and one that works weekends no less. Kenny will also help find sub contractors for plumbing, electrical, drywall, and if they don’t follow through Kenny will see to it that the job gets done on time and to the highest standards. If you are lucky enough to have Kenny on your job you will be a happy homeowner just like us."

"Spectrum One is our choice over and over again for renovating our home, which was built in the 1960s. Dennis comes out and looks at the scope of the project and gets back to you in a timely manner with an incredibly detailed and professional proposal. He takes into account your vision for the home and offers suggestions for improving the project or explains how the team can make that vision come to life. The project managers who oversee the project from start to finish have been diligent, respectful and ensure that the work being done is of the highest standards. They are on-site every day with a whole team working to get the job done as beautifully and as quickly as possible. The attention to detail from the whole group is what I most appreciate. We have used them for whole-home flooring (removal, installation and baseboards), recessed lighting, countertops, backsplash and would trust them with any project. We recently completed a third project with Spectrum One that included widening doorways, redoing an outdated fireplace hearth, and remodeling two bathrooms. Everyone at Spectrum One is quick to respond, honest, creative, and fun to be around. We love them and highly recommend to anyone looking to do a renovation, repair, or build!"

FAQs for wood stairs and railings repair projects in Georgetown, CA

Hiring a pro to refinish wooden stairs means labor makes up 20% to 30% of your total budget. That price covers sanding, staining, and sealing each step. In most cases, a certified refinisher can tackle a 10-step staircase in about two hours, then apply stain and sealant for a durable, eye-catching finish that stands up to daily traffic.

A pro can sand a standard 10-step staircase in roughly two hours, then needs another four to six hours for each coat of stain and sealant to dry. DIYers should budget up to a week for sanding, staining, and sealing in stages. With a crew on site, the bulk of the work is completed in a single day, minimizing disruptions while still achieving a high-quality finish.

It’s possible to refinish stairs without full-scale sanding by using chemical strippers, power buffers, or simply layering a fresh finish over the existing coat. Chemical strippers break down old stains and sealants, while buffers quickly shave off surface material. Even so, a quick hand-sand with fine-grit paper helps the new finish bond properly and look smooth. As always, suit up in protective gear and follow product directions to keep your wood—and yourself—safe.

For most stair projects, you’ll want two sandpaper grits. Begin with 80- to 120-grit to strip the old finish and even out rough spots, then move to 150- to 220-grit for a smooth, ready-for-stain surface. A power sander speeds up the coarse pass, but switches to hand sanding with the fine grit in corners and along edges to keep abrasion even and give stain or sealer something to grab onto.
