"Pricing of roof: I had four pricing quotes and they came to be the second lowest. However the delta between the highest, and the lowest was not much in any case. Thus I could go with any one of the four. Pricing of the solar: I had a several quotes including Solar City, and they were in the lowest pack (compared $/kw of the system with all the incentives). Roof Work: The quality of the work is superb. They did exactly what they promised on the quote. Solar work: Solar panels on the roof looks nice; Even though I have a relatively large system due to the pond operation, the panels are arranged well and all the wiring is hidden inside either under the panel or the roof attic through conduit. Clean up: They cleaned all the mess around the house after the work is done, which makes my wife (and in turn myself) happy. Shadowfax gave me an additional discount for doing the roof and the solar together. This is good because it helps me not only the finance side but also dealing with any potential defects once the work is done. I did not deal with two different installers for any roof related issues. The roof is tested well during this winter as we had an unusual heavy rainy season. No leak is found up to now, and the new gutters route the water the way supposed to be. The solar production is too early to say (we need at least one year to see), however, it looks like producing as promised. In the month of March, the production is slightly less than the yearly average (total system capacity/12)."

"Robert from V&G Builders is very professional and his workmanship is excellent. What set him apart early on in the project that I did with him was that he is a man of his word. He shows up on time and works hard to get the job done based on the schedule he promised upfront. As a homeowner, I have dealt with many different contractors and believe me when I tell you I have heard every excuse about why a job will not be finished on time or why it will go over budget. But working with Robert was a breeze because he takes pride in what he does and the quality of work he delivers. He takes the time to explain the project to you and his billing and invoicing is also very professional and detailed. You will not have any surprises with Robert once he signs up to do the job and I am confident you will not be disappointed in the quality of his work. For this reason I recommend him wholeheartedly."

"Because of the rains they needed to come up several times to lay materials to protect the roof. They were always timely and courteous during this process and when they put the new roof on. They did a beautiful job with the new roof, were in and out in a short time, and left the property very clean. In short, they were a wonderful Co. to do business with and the new roof is beautiful. I would recommend them unconditionally in the future."

"Alex and his crew were able to schedule our roof replacement around all the rain storms and got it done on time. Everyone was very polite and easy to communicate with. Cleaned up every day so there wasn't a big mess. Worked without any loud music or shouting which is good for me since I work from home. I think the price was fair. They also coordinated with our solar installer to make sure everything got done right."

"Within hours Ridout personnel responded to my call. Two men did the checks. They recommended I change the roof vents. They also reattached the TV antenna. It has withstood the latest storms."

"1. I was given incorrect information on the phone; I was told the team would show up ready to work. They didn't. They showed up to do nothing more than take pictures and notes and discuss the job so a P&E guy could work up the estimate. That's OK, except that's not what I was told on the phone. And they were over 30 minutes late.
2. No one ever called back.
3. I finally called them, reminded them about the job and asked if someone was going to call, left my name and contact number (again). I was told someone would contact me. No one ever called, again. If you're that busy, great, at least call.
Because I thought I was doing business with Scudder, I didn't call other roofers, so I ended up getting more water into my house from the leaks that I called them about.
Terrible customer service and follow-through.

Update: Please see my comments in the "What did the provider do?" section. No company is perfect, and Mr. Scudder's response to my experience turned me around on using Scudder Roofing in the future."

"They were really great to work with. They made the process of changing a roof very easy on us. They technically kept the yard clean. They cleaned up after themselves. They were right on time and very efficient. It took them a day and a half which was amazing. It was close to a holiday weekend so they wanted to get it done quickly and they really did a great job."
