"Hector responded quickly, asked questions and gave a reasonable quote over the phone. He scheduled the install for the next morning. He was on time and despite finding a few unexpected issues with the old plumbing he finished the job quickly and without opening the walls. He and his tech were professional, friendly and thoroughly cleaned up the area. The new fixtures look awesome and I would definitely hire HB Plumbing again. "

"Be prepared: You don't just pay for the work done on your house. You start paying 105.00/hour from the minute your plumber is dispatched - no matter where he is coming from, yes, no matter where he is - in my case it was 20 minutes and I was told (by the woman who dispatches) that I was 'lucky' he was in the area. Then, before anyone starts working on your problem, there is a one time 20 dollar fee for equipment - huh, I'm paying for the plumber's equipment? And then, in my case, I had to pay an extra 30 minutes while we waited for a friend of the plumber's to come to help him carry the equipment out of my backyard. When I called to question having to pay for the 30 minutes of extra time, I was lectured by a condescending woman about why all these additional fees were required - from HER point of view. Yes, to her, it made perfect sense that I was charged yet another 50+ dollars for 'waiting' for someone to come and carry equipment from my back yard. Even though Joe was great (I'd hire him again), I will not return to A & R Plumbing - 2 of my neighbors saw A & R's truck and asked about my experience and I had to tell the same. At the end of the day, I was charged 215.00 for 45 mins of labor - watch out for those hidden fees."

"Never in 20 years, living in this house, have I ever had a plumber travel from Monterey, CA, to do plumbing work on a house in Gonzales, CA. I was amazed that any plumber would come to Gonzales, CA, after 20 years of repeated negative experiences. Repaired the kitchen sink faucet. Replaced two (2) outdoor faucets. Recycled the water conditioner. Serviced the heating furnace. All work completed in a most excellent fashion. The plumber was very pleasant to work with. He was terrific."

"Our old galvanized pipes were Showing signs of age: low water pressure in other parts of the house when someone was taking a shower; water was rusty when you first turned on faucets after being away for a couple of days; and having to clean out faucet aerators regularly due to sediment build up. My wife regularly see the Repipe Specialistt tv ad and one day in late 2019, I signed up for an estimate. I received a call from their estimator, Scott Masel. He inspected all the areas with water delivery gave me an estimate and explained the work that would take place. Scott told me RS subcontracts to Sargents Plumbing in our area. A day or so after signing the RS contract, I received a call from Dave Sargent, the owner, and he scheduled our start day. Jesse, the foreman, came over a few days before and walked me through the whole project and showed me where his crew would like make holes in our walls for the installation. On their scheduled start day, the crew came right on time, were very courteous, and went about their work, we were told ahead of time that we would be without water that first night so my wife and I planned accordingly. As promised, the work was done, inspection and all, by Thursday. The holes that were created were patched - they even matched the stipple in wall texture in our stairway! Start to finish, Repipe Specialists and their partner, Sargent’s Plumbing did an awesome job, and all with minimal disruption to our day-to-day routine."

FAQs for plumbing installation for a remodel or addition projects in Gonzales, CA

Adding bathroom plumbing to a detached garage starts with the basic line installation cost of $900 to $1,300. On top of this base expense, you'll need to budget for each fixture. A toilet costs  $250 to $550, sinks cost $150 to $800, and a shower or bathtub costs $400 to $1,900. The project will also require ventilation, moisture-resistant materials, and possibly electrical work. Remember that these costs reflect only the plumbing aspects—additional construction, finishing, and permitting expenses will apply to complete a functional bathroom space.

While certain aspects of garage renovation might be suitable for DIY enthusiasts, plumbing installation requires professional expertise. Connecting to water and sewer systems demands specialized knowledge and equipment, and improper installation can result in severe water damage, code violations, and potential health hazards. Most municipalities require permits for plumbing modifications, and these often stipulate that licensed professionals must perform work. Consider limiting your involvement to simpler tasks like painting or basic finishing work.

The timeframe for adding plumbing to a detached garage spans one to three days for the actual plumbing work. However, this represents only the active installation period. The complete project timeline must account for planning, obtaining permits (which can take weeks depending on your locality), coordinating multiple contractors if needed, and addressing any unexpected challenges that arise during installation. Weather conditions can also impact excavation and outdoor connection work.

Adding plumbing to a detached garage will likely increase your property taxes. Tax assessors consider plumbing an improvement that enhances property value and functionality. The specific tax impact varies by location and project scope. Converting a garage into living space with plumbing facilities can trigger significant reassessment in many jurisdictions. Before proceeding with your project, consult your local tax assessor's office to understand the potential tax implications and factor this ongoing expense into your decision-making process.
