"Nasr Electric did a fantastic job with a complicated installation. We had accidentally purchased an incompatible switch, but having a wall switch is really important to our family member with motor disabilities. He went above and beyond to make it work! We have used Nasr Electric in the past as well, and have always been very pleased. They do great work!"

"Green’s Electric was great! They quickly provided an accurate estimate for the work we needed done. We appreciate the attention to details on the professional appearance of the work as well as the reasonable pricing. The finished work looks better than we could have imagined. Green’s was able to schedule the work very quickly and was on time and finished within the original estimated timeframe. I’d recommend this company for quality, reasonably priced master certified electrical work. They were great!"

"!!!!⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5/5 Stars!!!! Youssef from Atlas Electrical Solutions LLC provided exceptional service that exceeded all my expectations. His extensive electrical knowledge allowed him to solve a complex wiring problem without cutting into walls, saving me considerable money and time while avoiding the mess of wall repairs. What impressed me most was his professional yet friendly demeanor throughout the entire process. He explained everything clearly, worked with remarkable efficiency, and completed the job much faster than anticipated. His pricing was completely fair and transparent. I've already referred Atlas Electrical Solutions LLC to several people and will definitely use them again for any future electrical needs. "A gem of a human being and excellent workmanship. He arrived on time, was prepared and improvised as needed. We needed a new kitchen light fixture installed that we purchased ourselves. The ceiling is not flat and even, hence the improvisation. When that installation was completed, he also finished installing a hall light that I was in the middle of. A couple of screws from that light kit were too short. Ahmad to the rescue! In summary, Ahmad is highly qualified and recommended. We will not hesitate to call him again. He’s now OUR electrician and he should be yours."

"OH MY GOODNESS! WE ARE SO HAPPY!!! This was just such an EXCELLENT service from every respect! First, FH Furr was responsive - they set us up with an appointment right away. They said that they'd give us an estimate and we could decide what we wanted to do from there. We had SUCH a hard time finding anyone that would come out/was available, so this next-day service, early, was just what we needed. We had excellent contact from them - from a confirmation text saying they'd see us the next day, then when we called dispatch first thing in the morning once everyone knew their schedule, they knew where we were in the queue - window of 10 til 1300. They called to say when they were finishing the first job, then when they were 20 minutes out. We got a picture of our tech, so we knew who to expect. When Steve arrived, he was professional and explained what the first part of the service would be, then what to expect based upon what he saw. He was qualified to work both the electrical and the generator side of the problem, which was EXCELLENT because the other techs here had been able to work only one side of it and not even look at the other. Since it was a combo problem, this was exactly what we needed. Steve was courteous and professional - he put on slippers every time he came in, wore gloves and mask. Which is quite an ask in a house that's been sitting with no AC for 4 days. // then, the actual quality of his fixing the problem. He walked through everything, explaining as he went what connected to what, what it did, where things seemed to go wrong ... all this was EXACTLY what I needed because I wanted to know so I would be a little smarter (this is the second time it happened). I learned a lot, followed his explanations because he put it in terms I understood, and I really felt like he cared that I understood. As it turned out, there were multiple things wrong - loose connections, which burnt a post and a wire, which prevented the signal from getting where it should, etc etc. He explained both the panel and the generator side of things as he fixed it all. Then, in ultimate customer service, he walked through and made sure the whole house turned back on - making sure the AC worked, that all switches were powered, and that everything was as it should be. Then, he made the whole system go through a cycle - making sure the power properly switched from utility to generator, that everything came up on generator, then that everything released back to utility and the generator shut down properly. I was VERY IMPRESSED with the whole experience. We're also now part of their annual service plan. I tell you, we could not be happier. I highly recommend them."

FAQs for generator repair projects in Great Falls, VA

There is often some confusion about the type of work these professionals do. They only work on electrical systems such as outlets, lighting fixtures and electrical panels – they aren’t appliance repairmen.

There are three types of electricians: Master, Journeyman and Apprentice. Electrical licensing varies quite a bit by state. Some have licenses for apprentices and some do not. Some have a master’s rank while others stop at journeyman. Despite the differences, they all require a minimum amount of experience and usually classroom time.

  • Apprentice electricians aren’t usually licensed and spend 4 years learning the trade. Throughout that time, they work on a wide range of projects to learn to become a Journeyman. They’ll do basic work like installing fixtures and replacing outlets all the way to assisting in wiring a home. Regardless of the type of project, they must always be supervised by a Journeyman or Master electrician.

  • Journeymen work without supervision. In a few states, this is the highest level available and they can do all levels of work from wiring a new home to installing a light. In some states, they need a separate electrical contractor license to run a business. In places with a master’s level, a journeyman can do all work besides design new electrical systems.

  • Master electricians usually manage a shop, design new electrical systems in new construction and oversee both Journeyman and Apprentices. They typically bid new projects. Though they focus on larger projects, it’s not unheard of for a homeowner to request a Master Electrician for a house call. If you do, expect to spend up to 25% more for the visit.

Generally, you don’t tip electricians, but that’s not to say they don’t appreciate it if you do. You can offer them something to drink or eat, like coffee and donuts. Most will appreciate it if you do.

The education and certifications required to become an electrician vary by state, though they generally follow this list:

  1. Apprentice

    • Does not always require a license depending on the state.

    • Learns on the job under Journeyman and Master Electricians.

    • Usually needs 4 years on-the-job training before they can test for a Journeyman license. Many states also require a technical degree to advance.

    • Always require supervision.

  2. Journeyman

    • Needs between 8,000 to 10,000 hours of on-the-job training and usually 500 to 1,000 hours of classroom experience.

    • Can usually supervise apprentices.

    • They can diagnose and repair electrical problems.

  3. Master

    • Achieved after an additional two years (4,000 hours) working as a Journeyman and taking the Master Electrician Exam.

    • Besides diagnosing and repairing electrical systems, they also design them. In most places they run shops and inspect Journeyman and Apprentice work.

    • Not a recognized rank in all states.

  4. Electrical Contractor License is an optional license in some states for a Master Electrician to run a business. Some states have this instead of the Master license.

Electricians make an average of $26 per hour but it ranges with experience and licensing. An apprentice may make about half that while a Master Electrician may hit closer to $40 per hour. This figure represents how much they make; not how much they bill. Their salary is only one component of their costs. They must also figure in overhead, taxes, equipment, insurance and several other expenses.

Leave electrical work to the professionals. Electrical systems are complex and potentially hazardous when not handled and installed correctly. If it were easy, it wouldn’t take 4 years to become a journeyman or 6 years for a master’s license. If you are determined to forge ahead yourself, understand home electrical safety before beginning any project.Even for simple common electrical projects, a licensed pro is best. Not only is it safer, but contractors guarantee and insure their work. Hire a professional to keep your home’s electrical systems functioning properly and safely.
