"They did a great job. The lead person took lots of time to answer any and all of my questions while going over the estimate and during construction. I was never pressured to make a decision on materials or to hire them for the project. Only took 1-1/2 days for the entire project. They were always courteous and friendly and worked very well together as a team. The finished roof looks really nice. They had huge dropcloths to help catch the old roof material, besides the dumpster, and removed the debris from each area as they finished with it.  The clean up was awesome. Haven't found any stray nails at all. I would definitely recommend them for any roofing needs. <br />"

"Our "only" negative comment about Ground Zero Shelters is that they do not come to a persons residence to give the sales pitch and demonstration. You must go to their showroom or see their product at a home show. This being said, we were extremely happy with the sales experience, reminders and installation of our shelter. They called about 10 days prior to the installation for a reminder, their installers called the day before and the morning of the installation to remind us that they would be at our home at the designated time. They showed up as promised and were completed with the installation in less than 1 1/2 hours time! Thank you Ground Zero!"

"They brought a dumpster to the house and were only there a day and half. They did not request any money up front and they actually allowed my husband to go out and inspect the house before handing over a payment. They used the exact shingles we requested. They even did a little extra work such as adding a vent in the roof for our bathroom."

"Mr. Haas identified problems in our roof installation and issued a report. He suggested re-install and steps that we should take to get it done. It was a long process that involved county and DPOR. Mr. Haas was very helpful every step during the entire process. He is highly experienced and very responsive to our calls, text, and email. We eventually got the roof reinstalled in a very good quality. Mr. Haas was onsite multiple times to ensure the right materials and methods were used. It would not be possible without the help from Mr. Haas."

"Can't say enough good things about Mason City Roofing. I built my home in 1999 and purchased 40 year GAF shingles from the local lumber yard I was dealing with. I had a crew of guys install them. I don't know who they were and certainly could never track them down again. What could go wrong, right? Well fast forward to 2019 I start having issues with my shingles. Turns out 40 year shingles only last 40 years if they are installed properly! Because of poor installation I got 20 years at a 40 year price. The crew from Mason City Roofing came out and inspected my roof and showed me all the things that were done incorrectly from 1999 and explained the proper way that it should have been done. I did not have enough ventilation so my shingles were too hot from the inside and combined with the UV/weather from the outside they were shot. Ernie worked with us and gave us a great price and his crew was very professional during the installation process. They protected my landscaping and deck and cleaned up after themselves. Plus, they are a GAF approved installer so if I have any difficulty with my shingles it will be covered. We have a large home and purchased top of the line GAF Life-time Glenwood Ultra Designer class IV Impact shingles with improved venting and we love them. I would highly recommend this company. Mason City Roofing is a family owned business and they are kind, friendly, hard working, and professional."

"The company worked efficiently, and gave us input on suggestions for our flat roof and options on how to ensure that the flat roof would not leak again.  They also informed us when product was back-ordered or late.  Myers Home Improvement cleaned  up the property before leaving for the day.  Quick work, but excellent quality.  <br />"

"Very quick to schedule and complete job. Offered and applied weed spray to lawn for free. Ryan was a pleasure to work with (clear, honest, friendly). Covered roof to protect against unexpected rain. Flexible regarding design decisions. Didn't have perfect understanding of soffit ventilation, but good enough. Hip caps were slightly crooked, but not visible from the ground. Left a fair amount of old nails/asphalt in the gutters/bushes, but I was willing to do some cleanup to save cost."

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Greene, IA

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
