"Dan's Affordable Electric completely transformed my kitchen! They tore out old fluorescent ceiling fixture, installed 8 ceilings can LED fixtures, installed motion sensor lighting underneath kitchen cabinets, inside our pantry (wow!), inside two closets, lighting above our kitchen cabinet to the ceiling and installed subway tiles as a backsplash! We are thrilled! End of each day, they vacuumed the floor and polished countertops! Highly recommend!! Outstanding!!"

"Jesse was recommended to us by a neighbor. We have hired him for a few projects. Most recently he re-wired our air conditioner so we could install a better unit. Heâ s friendly, professional, and shows up on time. Jesse is patient while answering all of our questions to make sure we understand our options. We will be using him again!"

"Lane and his team Andy and Kegan were very professional. Came and walked me through the whole process and made this whole process less stressful. They were all very polite. They had respect for my home and cleaned up before they left everyday and did an amazing job while rewiring my whole house! I will be calling Lane again for any of my electrical needs in the future! "While remodeling a room in our basement, we decided to add more lighting to the room. Matt was able to help rewire and add recessed lighting to our now usable room. He was spot on with his estimates and explained everything he was doing. The best part was that it was completed quickly and left the space spotless!"

FAQs for electrical for home addition or remodel installation projects in Iowa City, IA

There are several telltale signs that your home is due for an electrical upgrade. You may need to rewire your house if your lights are constantly flickering or your circuit breaker keeps tripping. If you feel mild electric shocks when you touch light switches, hear buzzing sounds, or notice burning smells, you may need to rewire your house, too. Discolored or burnt-looking switches and faceplates are another crucial warning sign.

Properly installed copper wiring in a residential property can last as long as 50 to 100 years in some cases, but many homes over 30 years old are due for an upgrade. That’s the timeline that many experts recommend, even if it is only a partial update to accommodate technological advancements, increased power demands, and changing safety requirements.

At $3 to $5 per square foot, the cost to wire a 2,000-square-foot house ranges from $6,000 to $10,000, on average. This can depend on many factors, like the age and complexity of the house and how easy it is for contractors to access the areas they need to get the job done. Opening and repairing walls can further add to your total cost.
