"I live out of state and in August 2014 I hired this business to do weed removal and cleanup at my mother's house in Champaign.  When I visited over the Christmas holiday I was finally able to see the result of the work performed and I do not feel it was a good value for the money.  Initially purchased $85 for four hours yard clean up plus debris disposal on August 13.  Contacted Noah and explained I wanted additional work done to clear the entire front yard of weeds and lay down mulch to slow down the weeds growing back.  Estimate for materials (mulch and weed barrier) was given as $350 to cover main front yard and the smaller area between the street and sidewalk.  Total estimated hours of work came to 10 hoursfor an additional $150 over the original $85.  After this was agreed, my mother decided that she did not want the main part of the yard cleared of weeds and instead wanted some small trees at the side of the house removed and to just have the weeds cut down to 6 inches high in the main part of the yard.
The final work done included that the portion of the yard between sidewalk and street was cleared of weeds and covered with underlayment and mulch.  I measured and it is about 430 square feet.  This is less than 1/3 of the total front yard, yet the final bill had a materials charge of $350 which was the same as the original estimate of material to cover the entire front yard.  This made no sense to me but I was told by Noah that the man who did the original estimate just didn't do a good job.  So either they don't know how to do accurate estimates or they overcharge for material.  I feel I got overcharged.  At $50 a cubic yard for mulch, 4 cubic yards should have been enough to cover the 430 square feet to a depth of 3 inches and that would be $200 for the mulch, so the 430 quare feet of uderlayment comes in at $150.  This seems very overpriced to me.  The final invoice didn't say how many cubic yards of mulch they applied and in the end I get the sense they have no idea how much they actually used.
The main part of the yard was essentially untouched.  Nothing at all was done to make it look neater.  No downed limbs removed and the vegetation/weeds was about 5 feet high rather than six iches.
In addition to the weed removal and mulching described above, two dead tree limbs were removed ($25 each) and some amount of work was done to trim back some bushes which were growing out over the sidewalk.  Trees at the side of the house were not removed as my mother had requested.
According to the invoice, all this work took 10 hours, exactly matching the original estimate.  I wish I had been there to supervise because to me the end result did not look like 10 hours worth of work had been performed.
Finally, I did not feel very satisfied with my interactions with this business.  After the original contact with Noah, almost all communication was with one of his employees, an older man who was rather difficult to talk with on the phone.  He seemed to have a hard time understanding my description of the work I wanted done, and I in turn found his explanations to be unclear and hard to follow.  In the end I feel it would have been better to have only been communicating with Noah, the owner.  Also, the original contact was in August, but no work was even started until midway through October.  Part of the delay was due to my mother's decision to change the nature of the work to be done, but even so for nothing to done for over 6 weeks seemed excessively slow.  Various reasons were given: it rained, so we had to wait, the employee went on vacation so we had to wait until he got back, etc.  In the end it's too bad I didn't just realize that things were not going well and just cancel the whole thing.  For a total cost of $585 I do not feel I got good value for my money based on the end result.
On the plus side, at least the area covered with mulch was done OK.  I suppose the work actually done was of decent enough quality, but the price point seems much too high.

"They came when they said they would. I prefer to pay as I go and they did not require prepayment for their services. We will soon be discussing other lawn maintenance issues that concern me and if the solution is a viable one, they will be doing this as well. In other words, at this point I am happy with their work and would definitely recommend this service."

"TNR responded immediately to my inquiry and came out and did the estimate the same day! Four days later the job was done! I appreciated him contacting me the day of to let me know what time he would be here, he arrived on time, and did a fantastic job clearing out some very clogged gutters and cleaned the entire exterior of the house-- siding, roof, and soffits-- effectively removing all the built up dirt and mildew. I was very pleased with all of their work and will be calling them again in the fall!"

FAQs for lawn care maintenance and mowing projects in Ivesdale, IL

Hiring a professional saves you time and can actually save you money in the long run. Without regular care, your lawn might develop problems like thatch buildup, diseases, or pests, which can be expensive to fix. A pro keeps your lawn healthy, so you can enjoy it without the hassle.

Mowing your lawn yourself is generally cheaper than paying someone to do it. While a lawn mower can cost between $80 and $2,500 depending on the type, professional mowing services charge between $30 and $80 per visit. Investing in your own mower means that over time, you can save money by handling the mowing yourself, especially if you maintain your lawn regularly.

While the wording may vary from company to company, lawn maintenance typically includes all the services that keep your current healthy lawn looking sharp. Think mowing, watering, weeding, and a spring or fall cleanup.

Lawn care digs a bit deeper. These packages may include services that elevate your lawn's health or address an issue throughout the year. Fertilization, pest and weed control, and dethatching all fall into this category.

There is no set-in-stone schedule for mowing your lawn, as each grass variety grows at a different rate depending on the season. Once you determine the type of grass in your lawn and its ideal height, aim to remove no more than the top third of the blade at a time to retain its healthy structure.

In the high growing season, this will likely break down to about once a week, which is why lawn care specialists often offer weekly plans.

Don’t mow your grass if it hasn’t grown more than one-third of its height since you last cut it. For example, if you want grass no more than 2 inches, don’t mow it until it’s 3 inches. Don’t cut your grass when wet, as it clumps together and places more stress on your mower’s blades and makes it harder for the sun to reach the turf. This can lead to mold or disease. Conversely, don’t mow when it’s too dry. But, if you do, be sure to raise your mower’s deck height by about half an inch to encourage slower growth.

Yes, landscaping can significantly add value to your home. High-quality landscape design offers a return on investment of 20% to 30%. A well-maintained lawn and attractive outdoor spaces enhance your property's curb appeal and market value, making it more appealing to potential buyers when you decide to sell.
