"<p>John was very easy to work with, knowledgeable and had a flair for colors, design and explaining things.</p> <hr /> First, he visited our house to determine if the old Corian countertops could be refinished (They could) and if it was worth refinishing the Silverstone sink (It wasn't).  During the visit, we asked him lots of questions about the new backsplash and what we would have to do in preparation for the work his company would do. He was generous with his time and expertise. <hr /> We visited his store to read and sign the work order quote. While there he told us about an addition to the soap dispenser faucet which allowed use of a supersized dish detergent bottle to be stored under the sink. It really appealed to me because we wouldn't have to fill up the dispenser from the top through the teeny opening. He used this device hiimself. We wouldn't have known about this on our own. He had prepared suggestions for the sink and faucets and advised us to visit Fagers in Camp Hill to make our choices. We knew we wanted subway tile and he sent us to Conestoga tile to choose which color and manufacturer. We had used those companies in the past when redoing our bathroom and knew they would make sure our order was right and delivered quickly. <hr /> After I visited the display rooms for the sink, faucets and tiles, I emailed him our choices which he used to update the quote. We arranged the 3 days of the installation through his assistant who was very pleasant. The work order agreement said that it might take longer to than the 3 days (a surprise to us) which would be a problem because the flooring contracter was scheduled to begin work right after Mother Hubbard completed theirs. But the assistant said it was a standard clause and she didn't think there would be a timing problem. The work was done on time, though they have to come back to install the soap dispenser faucet which hasn't arrived yet. <hr /> The price for the work seemed reasonable. His workers were competent, neat and nice. <p>I would use them again.</p> <br />"

"This job went absolutely perfectly. Working with Ted on the design was easy and straightforward. He asked us questions about our wants and needs -- and he listened. His design reflected our input and requests. Ted provided us design options and prices helping us navigate to reasonable outcomes. <br /> <br /> As we choose our appliances, countertops and back splashes, Ted worked integrally and seamlessly with each of those suppliers to assure the project pieces fit together perfectly. <br /> <br /> Ted and his team met every one of their deadlines on time -- and Ted was instrumental in resolving any issues we might have had with other suppliers in our project. <br /> <br /> Heirloom's installation team -- led by Ted's brother, Terry -- were painstaking perfectionists. The cabinet installation was stunning and a joy to watch. The care and obvious joy these folks have is heart warming... <br /> <br /> As the project progressed we asked Ted/Heirloom to add additional cabinetry to our home -- a custom bathroom vanity and mirror, a custom entertainment center and a custom set of shelves in our sun room. Ted had excellent suggestions, constructed furniture grade cabinets and was a pure joy to work with. <br /> <br /> I can tell you we are very proud to have been associated with Ted and the entire Heirloom team. Frankly, I would welcome them in our house any time. Finally, anyone considering a kitchen renovation should absolutely consider Ted and his Heirloom team. Period."

"The project went very well. Brandon and his team were there prompt, punctual, and responsive. There were some delays caused by the cabinet manufacturer, but O'Hanlon pushed to keep us on track. The resulting project is beautiful and was definitely the best cost for the services we received (after several other estimates). <br /> <br /> Would definitely use again."

"Randy and his team did amazing work. He was very prompt to respond to my request for an estimate and was flexible enough to stop by the house at my convenience. He made everything very easy from the homeowner's perspective. He and his team did an amazing job at recommending paint type and finish, as well as performing the actual job! He even cleaned up some of the drywall imperfections. Randy worked fast, but also did a very good job with all of the little details around the home and we couldn't be happier with his work! We will definitely be hiring him again when we need painting done!!"

"<ul> <li>Excellent job with cabinet installation, painting, door installations.  </li> <li>Top notch carpentry.</li> <li>Energetic, conscientious workers.</li> <li>Sales person very helpful with the selection process.</li> <li></li> <li>Poor job on sub floor in kitchen and main bathroom.  Porcelain tiles began to pop.  At first year several cracked tiles were replaced in the kitchen.  At second year numerous cracked tiles.  Kitchen Design Specialists did not return my calls or emails.  When the tiles were fixed after year one, I expressed concern that the tiles would continue to crack based on what I had learned was a botched subfloor install.  (3/8 new plywood installed over existing 44 year old plywood.)  Even tiles that they had replaced after the first year were cracked again at year two.  When I expressed my concern at year one that the warranty was up I was told by the owner's son, the main installer,  not to worry, that he would take care of any issues.  I emailed him and called him several times, no response.  I called the business and left several messages for two other family business members and received no replies.</li> <li></li> </ul> In one of the bathrooms a wall was knocked out for a new shower.  The salesman told me that they would match up the plaster (sand swirled plaster textured finish)  They used smooth drywall, which did not match up with the plaster, and told me that the texture was painted on.  Since I had decided to do the painting myself in that room, they told me, it was my job.  They were clearly unaware of textured plastering procedures used in the 1960s. <br /> The tiled shower that was built in the main bathroom was not well planned.  Bull nose edge tiles were not ordered in time, and the glass installer installed the shower doors an inch or so farther back into the shower. The Corian seat was not sized correctly, and protrudes over the tiles on the end that sticks out through the glass, but is flush on the surface inside the shower.  The small piece of drywall framing the shower and separating it from the closet became waterlogged shortly after the remodel.  The installer said that water was running off of the lip of the shower base on the outside when the door was being opened.  He put an odd piece of tile as a cove baseboard on that wall.  Overall, the tile contractor did a fabulous job with the tile work in the shower. <br /> When the owner himself came to inspect the job (and collect his money) these complaints were all expressed to him.  He seemed to think everything looked good and showed little or no concern about the issues we had.  At the time we did not press the issues, since we had just gone through 2 1/2 months with our house torn apart.  I was assured that the tile issues would be resolved as needed. <br /> We can live with the small oddities of the shower, because overall it looks great.  But I would sure like to have a long-term resolution on the floors.  If they had the professional courtesy to return my calls, and took action to fix my floors, I would consider recommending them.  At this point, I cannot recommend this company. <br /> <br />"

FAQs for cabinets refinish projects in Jonestown, PA

To find the best cabinet refinishing expert for your project, start by researching local pros and reading reviews from previous customers. Reach out to a few contractors to discuss your cabinets' size, condition, and the look you're aiming for. Don't hesitate to ask for references or examples of their past work. Speaking with previous clients can give you valuable insights into the pro's workmanship and reliability.

When speaking with potential cabinet refinishing pros, consider asking them several questions to gauge their experience and professionalism. These questions can help you gauge the pro's experience and determine if they align with your needs.

  • Do you offer a guarantee on your work?

  • Can you create custom finishes or colors?

  • Do you have examples or samples of your past projects?

  • Are you able to match the finish to other cabinets in my home?

  • How long will the project take from start to finish?

Regular care will help maintain the beauty of your cabinets for years to come. To keep your refinished cabinets looking their best, follow these steps:

  • Use gentle cleaners: Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals that can damage the finish. A simple mixture of warm water and mild dish soap works well.

  • Clean carefully: Instead of spraying solutions directly onto the cabinets, apply them to a soft microfiber cloth and wipe gently.

  • Protect from heat and moisture: Try to minimize exposure to excessive heat or moisture, which can affect the finish over time.

It's usually less costly to refinish cabinets than to replace them, depending on the cabinet condition. Refinishing cabinets cost an average of $3,114 while replacing cabinets is about $5,000 or more. When deciding to refinish or replace cabinets, consider several factors, including how old your cabinets are, your budget, and whether you need to complete any other renovation projects at the same time.

It may be worth resurfacing (also known as refacing) your cabinets if they’re in good shape but you’re interested in a different look. This is often less expensive than replacing cabinets outright and can allow you to update the look of your cabinets to reflect your kitchen’s current style without having to get rid of them entirely. The cost to reface cabinets is around $4,300 to $10,000, and you can hire a local cabinet refacing pro to handle this work.

Refinishing cabinets takes about two to three days to complete. The process begins with removing cabinet doors, drawers, and hardware, followed by cleaning, stripping, and sanding the surfaces. Any chips, stains, or splits are repaired before applying paint or stain. After applying the finish, the cabinets are reassembled, and the workspace is cleaned up, leaving your cabinets refreshed and renewed.
