"This company was wonderful to work with right from the beginning (initially contacted through Angie's list on 8/15/14, estimate performed on 9/03/14, and work completed on 9/10/14).   There were a few hiccups in initial scheduling, but part of that was our fault (we weren't paying attention to the voicemail message providing us with a different phone number to call because they were having phone issues in the office).  Every single person we dealt with was extremely friendly, professional, and very knowledgeable.  They made us feel at ease about the work we were getting done.  <br /> Horizon's quality of work is excellent!  I realize that only time will tell, but so far we've had a couple of very heavy rains since the work was performed an no leaking has occurred.   The aluminum coating they put on the roof looks fantastic - and there are no paint splatters anywhere on the house from the coating.   The guys did a marvelous job of cleaning up after themselves too - we couldn't even tell they were here.  Most contractors I've dealt with, including other roofers, leave behind a giant mess to clean up - and worse, they leave nails behind for people to step on or drive over with their tires (why do contractors do that?)...   anyway, you don't have to worry about any of that with Horizon.  <br /> We are relieved to have a roofing company that is so experienced with flat roofs in Baltimore City.  Horizon Roofing, Inc. will be our permanent go-to company if/when we have any roofing issues in the future.   It is so wonderfully refreshing to receive such top notch, quality service that you can trust!  <br /> <br />"

"Had a leak, replaced roof at their suggestion. Service was prompt. <br /> <br /> Misgiving is that I contacted him today regarding a leak in the same spot. Was told they're no longer in the area and that the roof is not under warranty. I find this puzzling because I see recent reviews here for the provider so I would have thought they'd at least come by and taken a look. <br />"

"Lucky for me, a recent windstorm ripped off my gable fascia. I say lucky because my insurance adjuster brought with him Randall Specht from ReBuild Inc. He also inspected my 3-yr old roof and, although there was no wind damage, Mr. Specht identified shortcuts taken by my original roofing firm –shortcuts I would never have seen nor had the knowledge to identify. According to the shingle manufacturer, those shortcuts were not in accordance with their approved installation methods; problems would not have been covered by my warranty nor would any resulting damage. Although Mr. Specht was brought in only to identify potential wind damage, his professionalism and patient detailed explanation provided me with enough information to intelligently discuss the installation issues with the manufacturer and my original roofing firm. Then, after the original roofer “fixed” his installation errors, I had additional questions about the repair quality. Although I am a civil engineer, I am not knowledgeable about roofing practices. Recalling how professional Mr. Specht was, I contacted him again. He was as generous with his time & explanation as he was originally. Kudos to ReBuild!! Mr. Specht’s professionalism – his honesty, customer service and…kindness -- speaks volumes about him and ReBuild. He went out of his way to ensure I could have my original roofer fix my roof correctly, even though nothing was in it for him or for his firm. This company is what we always hope for we get when we hire a contractor; they will be the first one I call when I have a remodeling project or need a repair done. They are the ones I will recommend to my friends and neighbors."

"My new home was in need of windows. I contacted LS&G to have them installed. Dayson responded very quickly with an estimate. He came out within days to measure and make sure the windows would fit. We discussed several days that worked for me and set a date for installation as well as a backup plan in case of inclement weather. <br>They arrived on time and were so nice and professional. <br>The installation was fast and efficient. They cleaned up the installation mess and left only after making sure we were satisfied with the job. Using them saved me over $1,000 compared to others. <br> <br>I highly recommend them for any home improvement. They are local and not a big company so you are supporting a local business. I will contacting them in the future to replace my roof and siding when it is time. <br> <br>Thank you LS&G for such a great job!! <br> <br>"

"Definitely not happy with the service I received. In the days following the installation, I kept noticing things that were wrong. First it was issues with cleanup - there was a pile of dirt & debris left in the entranceway to my bedroom, including a nail that I almost stepped on. Then I noticed that they had left one of their tarps behind in my living room. Not a big deal, but was an initial indicator of their lack of attention to detail. A couple days later, I was standing by my neighbor's house next door and looking up at the front of my home, and from that angle I was able to see that one of the shutters was warped, and not lying flat against the home. Then a day after that, I was hanging shades in the master bathroom and noticed that there was a whole area around the window frame that had not been caulked. Then a day later, I noticed a large crack in the eaves under the roofing of the bay window. I called my contact at Thompson Creek to complain about all the issues I had noticed, and requested that they send a supervisor out to inspect everything top to bottom, to determine whether there were further issues that I hadn't even identified yet. I had trouble scheduling the appointment at first, since they expected me to take off from work and sit around for a 4-hour window waiting for someone to show up, until I pointed out that after the amount of money I had spent, they should be doing whatever they could to address and fix the issues on a schedule that was actually convenient to me. I finally got the site supervisor out, who did find additional issues - other areas that hadn't been caulked, as well as the threshold for the front door that had been installed incorrectly. He fixed whatever he was able to, but the shutter was not fixable at that point since it was so warped (from being installed incorrectly), so they first have to order new shutters, and I have to wait a month for them to arrive and be installed, so in the meantime I have a wonky shutter hanging on the front of my home. After all of the numerous issues (cleanup, caulking, and things installed incorrectly), I requested a refund of a portion of the cost, to be credited back to my credit card. The supervisor I spoke with agreed (after some haggling back and forth), but then a week after he had agreed to the refund I had to call back since it still had not been refunded to my card, and he first had to go to the Accounts Receivable department personally before they finally processed the refund. In addition - when I initially spoke with the supervisor I had requested an email confirming the installation date for the new shutters, and also confirming the fact that they would replace all 4 shutters and not just the wonky one. That email also took about a week and a half, and several follow-up requests, before it was received. Overall, I am definitely not happy with either the workmanship or the service I received from this company. I was particularly disappointed, since I had heard great reviews for this company, including here on Angie's List, and it was part of the reason I had chosen them over my 2nd choice, which was $3,000 less but not as highly rated. I wound up deciding to give them a C and not a F, since the windows are not totally worthless - we've had a few big rains since they were installed, and so far at least I have not noticed any water coming in. So clearly they at least managed to do something right. But it has definitely been an ordeal having to deal with the aftermath of the shoddy workmanship, so I wanted to give an honest review in case anyone else was shopping around for a window company."

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Joppatowne, MD

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
