"Excellent! We had a problem with a leaking valve and couldn't shut it off - only way to stop the leak was to shut off water to the entire house! Besty in the office worked some magic with their schedule (in the midst of the holidays nonetheless!) and had someone out to the house within a few hours! "Found Gary the Plumber here on Angies List. Called him around 9:30 am on a Tuesday to have this work done. He said he could have someone there that day and asked me to text him the info. I sent him the info and in the text asked for a rough estimate. At around 12:30 pm his employee Gary (who for the sake of clarity I shall call Gary 2) arrived. No notice that he was on his way, no schedule and no estimate. But as I was home I was okay with it, just a bit perturbed. I already had an access hole open in the back to get to the old valve. Gary took a look at it and said "so you want an estimate?" I replied yes and I was told it would cost $400.00. I felt that was a bit steep but as he was there and the company was well regarded I agreed. Gary 2 was quite pleasant and professional and despite a few problems along the way (some his, one mine) he did a decent job. It worked. He opened the hole I had already cut in the wall more for access and cut the plasterboard to about 1/4" away from the sink backsplash. Now this is going to give me a hard time to fix because of its proximity and I wish he had either gone 1/2" higher (which he could of) or talked to me first as I could have given him an alternative to enlarging the hole. My biggest issue is that this. The previous install had a threaded fitting from the copper pipe to the old valve. He removed this fitting (a Sharkbite) and then soldered the pipe into the new valve. The issue here is that in doing this he moved the center of the valve over a inch higher than it was. He did not install the handle or the cover but left that to me to do. So when I installed the cover after he left I found that the cover barely fits over the hole at the bottom and I can see light around some of the edges. My worry is water entering into the wall. I texted Gary the owner with photos and asked what can be done about this. He did call back right away so an A+ for responsiveness. After a bit of discussion he said I should caulk around the outside anyway - "thats what we normally do." Now at the time the significance of this did not register, but if that is what they normally do, why was this not done? Why are they not coming to fix it, especially as they have to come here to pick up some parts they left. So it was left to me to fix. There were a few others things that have added to my annoyance with this. But it basically comes down to at $400 (after a 10% discount), I just expect a much higher level of attention to detail and finish. I feel Gary the owner was responsive, professional and pleasant. I feel Gary 2 did a good job on the plumbing but the detail work and small things were missing. And I feel that I paid a high price for 3 hours of labor, some copper fittings (I ended up supplying some of these fittings also) and that at the price, the small things matter."
