"Excellent work! At least 1/3 of my roof on the north side had a great deal of moss on it. On much of the rest of the roof there were small amounts of moss along the bottom edge of shingles, and there were patches in scattered places on the main part of the shingles. After Hector and his son cleaned the roof, it looked brand new. They removed plants and furniture from our deck before the job and replaced them after the job. They even did a light washing of the vinyl siding of the house, which was outside the agreed-upon scope of work, but they did not charge me for it. As a former member of a site safety office in a then-Fortune 50 company, I was particularly impressed with the excellent precautions they took to insure their safety on the roof during the job. Hector’s 27+ years of experience was evident in every aspect of the job. I plan to bring him back in a year for annual maintenance. I definitely recommend No More Dirty Roofs to any home owner needing roof cleaning."

"I would strongly suggest not using this company. I requested they replace my roof and repair the flashing issues I saw with an awning above my back door. They charged me $3700 which was just under the competition, so I was satisfied with the price but not alarmed by the difference. They then came out and replaced the shingles and roofing on all of my awnings and JUST the back of my A-frame/main roof. This left the front of my A-frame (the portion of my roof with the majority of the damage) original and unreplaced When contacted, they noted that their quote/estimate described the scope of work they performed. I personally do not understand how that scope of work was determined from my request and also do not believe that a customer should have to nit-pick through an estimate when they say "I want my roof replaced". They then offered to finish the job for $2800 more (eventually dropping to $2200) when confronted. So another 75% of the initial quote to finish the last 20-33% of the job. Note, had they given a quote for the scope of work REQUESTED and it came to $6500, I could've saved $2300 by going with another honest contractor with a slightly more expensive quote for the full job to be done. Seemingly an extremely unethical business practice used to make more money. I'm not sure what other way anyone else would see it with all of these hard facts considered."

"Wayne was very responsive and patient, and handled the entire project very well. His team did good work too, and in a few instances where we saw minor flaws, Wayne made sure that his team fixed them promptly. He even went above and beyond what he was contracted to do, such as by helping us return a vanity to Home Depot, and installing a new toilet valve in another bathroom when he noticed that it was broken. While the total cost was a few thousand dollars higher than what other companies quoted, Wayne's responsiveness made up for it."

"Until the past few weeks, I would have left a 4-5 start review for Exterior Source. The office staff and work crews have been very friendly and helpful. The house we purchased has Leaf Guard gutters on it, and I’ve had the company do a few repairs related to water damage and damage prevention for a total of roughly $1,200. Recently I had a corner on my garage with wood rot. I also had an issue with a leak over our kitchen window. In order to preserve the Leaf Guard warranty, I called Exterior Source first, for a quote. This is where things went south. The quote, after a discount, was $1,700. The issues were as follows: 1. A leaking corner joint on the gutters – Caused the rotten wood on the garage. 2. A water diverter that was too short – Causing water to flow around it and leak in the kitchen. I requested a call from the owner, and got a call from Kristian (the sales manager). I explained my frustration with the quote and was told he would call the following day after he’d reviewed the quote so we could discuss further. I didn’t get a follow-up call. Fast forward a week or so, and I got a follow-up call about my experience with the sales team. I shared the experience and the fact that I didn’t get a promised follow-up call. I was told these notes would be shared with the salesperson (Dan) and his manager (Kristian). Still no follow-up. I did schedule a cleaning with Exterior Source, and got another follow-up call. I explained that I wasn’t aware the cleaning had happened and that I knew I had a leaking corner and I needed it repaired. I thought that was being scheduled, but I heard no more about the issue. I decided to have the wood repairs done by my handyman. A couple of weeks later, handyman is working through the repairs, and explains the corner joints are leaking. By the way, we had 3 corners with wood damage, Dan only found one in his inspection. He asks if he should reseal the leaking corner pieces and I called Leaf Guard to ask. The lady I spoke with was super nice and had someone out the next day to reseal the corners. I explained I was having repairs done on the wood behind the gutters but I wasn’t warned that the gutters could not be altered at all to keep the lifetime warranty. At this point, I’m happy. We’re back on track to Exterior Source being a customer focused company, despite our minor issues. When Jake came out (super nice guy) I was told I no longer had a warranty on my gutters, because he noted screws were replaced on a corner piece and a downspout. Keep in mind the work not performed on this visit was running a few beads of caulk in the leaking corner pieces to stop the leaks. Exterior Sources offer is to come out and rehang the gutters (none were removed in the repair), and reseal the corners for $300 to reinstate my warranty. Great service is easy when things go well. Companies that put the customer first when things don’t go as planned understand the value of a customer. The current leadership at Exterior Source seems to need a lesson in taking care of customers."

"Advanced Home Exteriors did an outstanding job on my property and did way more than exterior work. Right from the start the owner of the company Jay called me guaranteeing his excellent work and he was right. Throughout the whole process my point of contact was Jay and he updated me weekly, sometimes daily. I had work done on my house while being 3,000 miles away and Advanced Home Exteriors helped me with everything. Not only did they do my roof and siding but they also did some electrical work, paint, and deck repair even fixing other contractors bad work! Advanced Home Exteriors can do it all and I highly recommend them."

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in King William, VA

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
