"The plan on this job was to protect the pool from collecting debris with a plastic tarp. In the demolition process, the crew damaged several coping bricks. The framing, rebar, concrete pour and stamping went otherwise OK. They were late removing the tarp due to needing to work on the brick, and it later rained, covering the tarp with water. Joe offered to cover the coping brick damage, sending a guy at the end of other jobs to chip the broken bricks out over the course of the coming week. He damaged a finish tile. Also, the number of “damaged” bricks seemed to increase as we went along. We were not able to remove the tarp when anticipated due to the additional coping demo, and it stayed on over the rains leading up to the 4th of July weekend. Joe's original plan was to clear any water from the surface of the tarp with a submersible pump, removing the debris along with the tarp. This did not work due to the amount of water that had collected. He cut the tarp to remove it, with the debris falling in the pool. After a few days of brick chipping, I started asking for a new schedule. Joe told me to call the office. I asked this question repeatedly, sharing my frustration with the way the job was going. She eventually told me to talk to Joe when he arrived with the crew on July 9. When he appeared on the 9th, he went back to check on his guy and quickly went back to his truck. I flagged him down to give him a spare finish tile and ask my scheduling question. He drove away while I was talking, indicating that he had to get to another job. I waited for a while, then called the office to complain about being disrespected and still not having a schedule. I was angry on this call, but did not yell or use profanity. Joe returned to my home later that morning. I opened the door when I saw him. He came at me with balled up fists calling me names and threatening to beat me. He felt I had been inappropriate with the “seventy year old woman” who answers the phone at the office. He threatened to beat me again, called me some more names, and walked of the job. I have a recording of most of this interaction from my Ring doorbell camera. This was an $8000.00 job. I have paid everything save $650.00 that was due at the end. I will likely incur expenses that exceed this amount in having the work completed, if I can get a contractor to finish the job. Additionally, my pool service company indicates that they will charge $1500 to clean the construction debris and another $1500 to restart the pool. There will be additional expense in replacing the water to be drained in the cleaning process. So if you don't mind a contractor that bullies his way out of a job with threats of physical violence when things go south, Houston Solid Concrete is for you. Otherwise, steer clear. They only get 1 start because 0 is not an option."

The dispatcher notified me that the crew was actually going to be a little early to try and beat the rain. The crew did an excellent job and made sure the jobsite was clean before they left. "It was a smooth experience. Jason and his crew did an excellent job. Always on time and came to work. If he said they will be there at 7:30 a.m., they were there started working. Jason handled getting the permits required by the city and met with inspectors. Quality job and no issues after the work was completed. Would definitely recommend and hire again for any future jobs."

"I do not recall him stating that we (homeowner) could get the permit, only that they rarely have needed to get one, and in fact he could only recall one instance in which they needed one. He also initially stated that they use a third party to get the permits, hence the high cost of the fee. He later texted me that one of their managers could get one, as they have an account with the city. Unfortunately, I did not record the conversation, in order to provide further veracity to my review, but with what I was told during the phone conversation regarding a permit not being needed to replace the driveway, and several text messages we exchanged, I stand by my original review regarding the lie of the permit not being required."

"Called Mario when our first concrete person kept making excuses as to why the cement truck couldn’t come and pour and he started 5/13 and now it’s 5/23. Mario was referred to me by my realtor and so the process began all over again for us. Called Mario Friday late morning he came to see our driveway Friday 6:30pm granted the previous flight by night Carl Mulle Concrete Services had already ripped up the driveway concrete and had about 1/3 of the rebar and form in place. He claimed it had to done in 3 separate pours, we learned how wrong he was. Mario explained what needed to be done, he had to redo part of what had been laid down but said I have called the cement truck company in advance of our meeting. My crew and I can start Saturday 7am and the cement truck will arrive 8:30 am. We agreed to price which was very fair considering we were out a lot of money. We didn’t know what to believe and expect. The crew came Saturday at 6:30am, cement truck came at 8am. Mario and his crew got down to business and poured 20 yards of concrete. That’s 2 trucks, Mario said we should have the work done by 1pm. He did better, it was done basically by 12pm. Unbelievable! The precision and detail of each worker was outstanding. It was a team effort all around and we couldn’t be happier to have this project complete. We haven’t been able to use our driveway for 2 weeks thanks to Carl Mulle. Mario and his crew are very professional and the quality and craftsmanship shows."

"I scheduled an appointment with Joey to give me an estimate for some landscaping work. He forgot about the appointment until I called him, resulting in him being 1 1/2 hours late. Following our meeting, he was supposed to provide me with a quote for the work we discussed, but I haven’t heard from him. I’ve since read reviews on Backyards Plus. He either is a 5 star, or a 1 or 2 star based on the reasons I’ve cited above. Not sure if he treats all potential customers this way, or maybe my project wasn’t enough $$$ for him. I was ready to have him do my landscaping project and take over my lawn service. Doesn’t seem to want the business."
