"They were on time, were cheerful and helpful, everything was great until I asked for the bill and was quoted what seemed like the tab for a major construction cleanup: $590 for loading & taking away the household stuff we had cleared out of our basement and shed and piled on the lawn. When he saw the incredulous look on my face, he quickly lowered it to $450, which I thought was still a lot for the amount of work involved, but I don't like being forced to dicker, so I wrote the check. I'd recommend them but you should agree on a firm amount before they start loading."

"David did a fantastic job here on our property. He listened carefully and then followed our unusual instructions. We wanted a light touch and to maintain the natural, Maine, pine look and feel of out property. The results are exactly what we were hoping for. Both he and his colleague worked extremely hard while they were here. They removed everything and left the place looking great. This was a 5-STAR job - 100%. I would hire David again in a heartbeat, and I can recommend him to others wholeheartedly and without hesitation. Thank you, David."

"Ryan at Tobey & Son Excavation was excellent! He did some site prep work for us and was incredibly easy to work with; friendly, professional, and extremely knowledgeable in his field. He showed a high level of attention to detail which was clearly displayed in his finished work. "My husband and I bought an abandoned house (call it the secret garden ) on two acres three years ago that had hundreds unmaintained, fancy invasive plants and trees that were strangling and eating the house and each other. Since we moved in, three other landscaping companies from home advisor had checked it out but none sent a quote (I was told the job was too big, or that they didn t do removal-to call them back if you re considering adding plants or a patio .) Chris sent us a quote the same day he checked out the job and we hired him on the spot. He and his crew were so professional and they did an amazing job with tree and shrub and vine removal; they also topped off our driveway with fresh gravel and removed 5 years of leaves and detritus from around the house. It means so much to us- we can go outside and just enjoy our yard. We can see our house when we turn into the driveway! They did in two days what would have taken us 5 years or more. I didn t tell them this but I was feeling so discouraged based on those interactions with the other companies and I haven t had the same energy since I had some health issues a few years ago. It really meant so much to us that they did what they said they would and even went above and beyond, clearing dead stuff we didn t even know was there (couldn t see it under the live stuff). We will definitely hire them for our next project and would recommend that you do too!"

"We had an area in our yard where we had removed a tree and grass would not grow. We tried reseeding for several years, and they result was always the same... a big bare patch. Dustin came up a great plan...stones, pavers and some plants, but plenty of room for us to personalize it. BTW...far right of the photo is a drainage ditch that he had to work around....integrated it nicely into his work."

FAQs for building site preparation and clearing projects in Kittery Point, ME

A professional team can clear an acre of land in as little as two to twelve hours, depending on your land's condition. You'll need to consider factors like vegetation density, terrain features, and obstacles such as trees, stumps, rocks, or existing structures can increase the time required. If your land is heavily wooded or has uneven terrain, expect the process to take longer and require more effort.

If you're looking to clear land for a pasture, expect to pay between $400 and $600 per acre for forestry mulching or $500 to $5,600 per acre for conventional land clearing. When choosing a method, consider:

  • Forestry Mulching: Leaves organic material in the soil, promoting new ground cover growth.

  • Conventional Clearing: You might lose valuable topsoil during this process.

A land-clearing project typically involves several key steps to prepare your property for construction or landscaping. First, assess your land and obtain any necessary permits from your local building department. Then, professionals use specialized equipment to remove trees, stumps, brush, and vegetation. After clearing, they haul away debris and may perform grading to level the land, ensuring it's ready for your intended use.

Preparing land to build a house typically costs between $1,000 and $4,000, depending on your land's size and condition. This includes clearing space for the foundation, which may involve removing trees, stumps, brush, and leveling or grading the site. Don't forget to budget for additional costs like permits, fees, and installing utility connections such as gas lines, water lines, and sewer mains.
