"I think this is my 3rd review for the same job, but I keep thinking of more positive things to share about Chris and Weathermaster. We originally had a leak in one part of the roof. Chris didn't think the entire roof needed replacing at this time, but since we were also going to have solar installed by another provider (GC Electric Solar), we went forward with the whole roof. Chris's bid was the most affordable for the same product- Owens Corning Duration Cool shingles; while I loved the other options, I chose Night Sky color to best blend with solar panels. It has a layer of Titanium UDL 30 underlayment as well as all the new flashing, 4 new turbine vents etc. This shingle reflects heat away from the attic, reducing the amount of heat transferred into the home. This category of Cool shingle comes in 10 attractive colors. Chris brought a sample board for me to see selections. (The solar guys really wanted to do the roof too but they could not come close to Chris's bid for the *same product*. I'm glad we kept the two projects separate.) The work was completed quickly and my husband and I were so impressed by the hard working crew. They did not mess around, but got the job done. The finish was broom clean and debris hauled away. We did discover the gas hot water heater vent pipe had been knocked off its proper position on top of the heater from its manipulation during reroofing. One call and Chris came pronto, fixing it himself that evening. Chris itemized the invoice as we requested, showing costs for the section of roof which would be under the solar panels, and the rest of the roof. Our accountant advised we could include that portion supporting the panels in factoring the solar tax credit (26% in Jan. 2020) The panels weren't installed until February as the demand was high. It looks great and we are very happy we made this investment in our home. Do not hesitate to start your roof project with a call to Chris at Weathermaster Roofing (C-39 Lic. #1035229) Thanks again Chris- and Heather in the office :)"

"Excellent! 15 years ago I had John replace the roof on my property. I did my diligence and got quotes etc. PRS&S won the job. Last year the new insurance company required me to get a new roof. I did my diligence this time by just calling John. My property is large with multiple tenants. The workers were great & made sure tenant concerns were addressed. They replaced 40% of the individual roof boards (no plywood), most all of the sofit boards, and all of the soffit vents. I can't list all they did but I now have a completely new roof with multiple vents. I'm very happy with the workmanship and the price."

"Incredibly smooth the whole way with A-1 Roofing. I was the neurotic customer who questioned everything because three years ago when I hired my first big contractor, I got swindled out of $9000 extra on a $5,500 job with a mechanics lien that the contractor threw at me a month after I paid the final bill. I was very untrusting of any contractor at this point so before I hired my second one I did my homework by studying Angies List and the Better Business Bureau. I found A-1 Roofing as one of my 5 estimates that I got before getting started. A-1 was one of the top 5 on Angies List but so were a few others. What made me choose A-1 Roofing was that asked them if they would accept another roofing contractors coupon that I saw on Angies List. Without hesitation Albert Apodaca knocked $400.00 off his price which was already the lowest but he did not know that. In addition, his charge for materials & labor were the cheapest for any extra work that needed to be done that could not be seen in the estimate. I knew the roof was terribly bad and that there was going to be unseen problems so I took note of those charges in the original contract compared to the others. The roof was completely done in two days. Amazingly fast considering how bad the roof really was...see my pics and you know what I'm talking about. A-1 Roofing also did not bother to charge me anything up front. The roof was put on and I had not paid him a dime yet. I did pay him quickly after the roof was put on right smack in the middle of Christmas week too, but I held back $1,500 in order to take care my the driveway that got smashed up by a big truck. Without hesitation Albert wrote up a knew contract saying the $1500 would be paid after the driveway got fixed. About two weeks later I had a brand new driveway to go along with my brand new roof. I immediately paid A-1 Roofing and thanked them 1000 times. Great work guys! Incredible, really."

"I was looking into replacing my 20+ yrs tile roof to the Tesla solar roof but after months of waiting (I pre-ordered the solar roof and it was stuck at the design phase), Tesla told me that they no longer serve my area and refunded me the money. As I was looking for an alternative, I came across GAF's solar shingles and I was very interested in them. Guardian Roofs is GAF's certified installer in SoCal area. Larry from Guardian Roofs reached out to me within a day after I filled out the "Request for a Quote" form on GAF's website. Told me about their company and we chatted about my needs for the new roof and solar system. Within the next few days, he sent me a proposal, explained every single detail to me carefully and patiently answered all of my questions and concerns. He truly enjoy working with Larry because he would find out the answers for any questions he wasn't able to answer on the call and actually called me back and explained them to me thoroughly. I called/emailed six roofing companies/contractors, only four responded within the first week with a quote. The quote from Guardian Roofs was the second lowest (cheaper than Tesla's solar roof). The other three quotes were traditional solar panels and reroof using the existing tiles. I quickly decided to go Guardian Roof's quote not only it's much cheaper than Tesla's solar roof, but their panels also looked much nicer than the traditional ones. My only concern was that without the space between the rack and roof, how would the heat generated by the panels being released? I asked Larry this question and he explained to me but I didn't quite understand, so I asked the owner, Justin, the same question during the installation and he explained to me by showing me the actual products. Turned out the combination of the underlaying sheet, GAF's Timberline Shingles and the actual panels were playing a big part in handling the heat. The installation took a week to complete. I'm very pleased that the owner himself actually came out a couple of days and climbed on the roof to make sure everything was done correctly. He was also there to answer all of my questions about the job. Additionally, GAF sent a technician from the San Jose headquarter to oversee the installation of the panels. Not the mention William (the lead installer from Guardian Roofs) and his crew did a great job cleaning up the area after the job was completed."

"I had a good experience with DENNIS COOK Roofing. We went back and forth on an agreement to give me a fair price that included everything I was interested in. In addition to re-roofing my home, they were also able to enclose an open atrium, remove and reinstall my solar and install new gutters. They have awesome equipment to work fast and efficient. Something I really appreciated was the office staff keeping in touch with me throughout the project, sending me links to pictures they were taking of everything each day as the job progressed. The supervisor also texted me with a good recommendation to provide two skylights instead of the original plan to install just one. It worked out really well and didn't cost me extra. They matched the paint perfectly on the new fascia and shiplap on the eaves. My new roof looks great!"

"Best Rate Repair did a fantastic job in replacing out fascia. We were extremely pleased with this company, From the day Mike Spencer came out to estimate the cost of the work needing to be done until the project was completed under the direction of project leader Rob Garland, everything was terrific. Everyone was always extremely polite, work site was cleaned up every single day, and if any issues arose they were taken care of quickly and professionally. We would recommend this company without reservation, and if we need assistance again with home repairs, we will definitely call Mike at Best Rate Repair!"

"I am very pleased with all of the work and all of my interactions with Gen819. I would hire them again in a second and recommend them highly. Marcus has an excellent group of people, from front office, to the skilled craftsmen to the careful demolition folk. In the winter 2019/2020 they did a complete re-roof at my home in Solana Beach.   This included removing and re-installing solar panels (with a modest upgrade), adding insulation, all new roof tiles, and a fair amount of termite and rot repair.   All work was completed with precision and care.  The lead workers, Elario, Eric, and Sergio were communicative, careful, and kept the project moving along in spite of the rains that came and went throughout the early winter.  They kept us leak-free throughout and did a superb job. I could not be more satisfied with the entire process."

"Company provided a clear contract of all work to be done and the lead roofer had a copy to follow. Once started the job went well in spite of rain. Work was promised from 12-14 weeks after contract was signed and began near the end of the window. Tear off was expeditious and the crew protected the yard and house. Roofers neatly replaced termite damaged roof parts, installed insulation, 7/16 OSB, weatherlock in valleys, two layers of felt and roofing. Additionally a vent was moved and two new vents added. City of La Mesa Inspection passed after tearoff and reroofing. Clean up was careful. The only call back was some painting on new eves that were missed, a quality painter primed and painted the missed area with appropriate care. The ladies in the office were most helpful in facilitating communication."

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in La Mesa, CA

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
