"I hired Jimmy after finding him on Angis. I had originally hired a painter that I found on a Facebook ad, but he took $3,000 from me as a down payment and then disappeared after 2 days on the job. During my first meeting with Jimmy, I explained to him what happened and he was great. Very sympathetic and reassuring. He went into detail exactly how him and his team operate. We agreed to a price; I signed the contract with him then it all went downhill. This issue occurred at the very end of the project but imo it's the most serious issue and everyone should be aware of this because I was forced to file a police report and report him to the state of Michigan for breach of duty. On 3/24, I asked Jimmy if he made a copy of my house key and he assured me that he did not make any copies and that his guys left the key under the door matt. However, on 4/3 Jimmy sent a painter to my home to do a walkthrough (more on this later), when this painter arrived, he tried to open my front door with a key, while he was trying to do that my wife opened the door for him. At the end of the night, when he had fixed some of the remaining issues, I asked him for my housekey back and this guy refused to give me the keys to MY house. He said that he was told to give it right back to Jimmy. I let him go and immediately changed my locks. I confronted Jimmy and again Jimmy claimed that there was a misunderstanding and that he threw the key in the garbage... I told him that I can't believe anything he is saying because he specifically told me that he did not make any copies. The fact that he made unauthorized copies of my HOUSE KEY and did not tell me about it is a serious breach of security and trust. 1st issue) When his team started on March 23rd, he sent me a picture of my bedroom door where it looked like they broke the door panel trying to pry a mirror off the door. After the door broke, Jimmy and I spoke and he suggested replacing all of my doors so that they all matched. I asked him for pricing, but he could not give me an exact cost. We agreed that we would go to Home Depot together to figure out what doors we would want and the costs before we made a decision. The very next day, I received a call and text from Jimmy that he hired a carpenter and went to Home Depot and purchased the doors without me. I told Jimmy, that this was not what we agreed and I did not want the doors he purchased. He was upset and told me that he had already hired the carpenter and paid him. This felt like he was pressuring me so that I would just agree to have them install the doors. 2nd issue) During our first meeting, Jimmy and I did an extensive walkthrough of my home, where we went into great detail on what would be needed to prep the new dry wall. However, 2 days after starting he hired "Mexicans" prep the walls. There must have been an issue between them because Jimmy texted me that he needed an extra $350 to pay them because they needed to put down the correct drywall tape. 4 minutes after I told Jimmy that we specifically discussed the drywall tape, he texted me saying that the guy fixed it already. This is another example of Jimmy trying to pressure me into paying him extra for items we already discussed. 3rd issue) During the prep of the floors of my home his guys ripped out the carpet on my stairs when I questioned the guys working, they told me that they would put it back once they finish. This also didn't happen, They through the carpet out on 3/31/26. I now need hire someone to install new carpet on my stairs. 4th issue) On my March 26th, there was an issue with the furnace, so my wife had to go to our home and help turn the heat up because for some reason they were having trouble with it. While she was there, she was speaking to the painter that was at my house everyday painting, she asked him why he was using pro mar paint instead of the Emerald paint like our contract said he was going to use. When I confronted Jimmy about it he claimed that he was using it as a primer and that they have not started with the emerald paint. I believed him that is until March 28th. When I was in the basement with Robert, another one of the painters that was working at my place every day. He brought down the promar 200 paint and started painting the walls. A few minutes after starting, Jimmy came downstairs and had Robert cover up the label on the paint can. Just prior to this I had taken a picture of the paint can. I once again asked Jimmy why he was using this paint after they had already put primer on the basement walls. He said that this is a second layer of primer and that once dried, he will put the 2 coats of emerald paint. This was very suspicious because the paint he brought had no primer in there. After talking to Robert upstairs while he took a break, he told me they only put 1 coat of emerald on my walls and that they used the other paint because Jimmy never told them that they were supposed to use Emerald. This made me question Jimmy and his explanation, so I took the picture of the paint can to Sherwin Williams and they told me that there is no primer in this paint and it's not used as a primer either. I once again confronted Jimmy about this, and he got angry that I was accusing him of not following through with our agreement. I reminded him that I was just cheated out of $3k from the prior painter and that I am questioning everything, which is my right. He said that I can "trust Jimmy" and that he is using this paint as a 2nd layer of primer for free and that the entire home would look great because I would have 2 coats of primer and 2 coats of paint. I said fine, i'll see how this turns out. 5th issue) 3 working days later, Jimmy tells my wife that they finished and that they will leave the key under the door. He needs to leave so that he can get to a party at 2pm. He then texts me telling me that he is all done and they cleaned the house and that he wants me to pay him the rest of the payment. I told Jimmy that he was supposed to give me 2-day notice so I can take time from work and do a walkthrough of the home with him. In the end we agreed to at 6pm on 4/3. I also sent him just a couple pictures of issues that I saw and told him there were others that we need to talk about when I see you. 4/3 rolls around Jimmy texts me that he sent his guy to my house to fix the issues and asked me to meet him at 5pm. I told Jimmy that he was supposed to meet with me and not one of his employees. Jimmy never responded. 6th issue) I met with Jimmys guy on 4/3 and went through the issues that I needed fixed, he obliged and fixed some of the items, but a majority he claimed that he was not told about and that he can't fix it without speaking to Jimmy. I showed the painter the biggest issue, which was my sons room still had blue showing up through the room. He said I need to talk to Jimmy, because they already put 1 coat of primer and 2 coats of paint on the walls. I stopped him and asked him to repeat himself. He told me that he put 1 coat of primer and 2 coats of paint on all the walls. I told him that Jimmy just told me on 3/26 that he is putting 2 coats of primer and 2 coats of paint on all the surfaces, I asked him again, what was going on? He told me to talk to Jimmy and that he only does what Jimmy tells him to do. I let him go to work and correct the issues that I had told Jimmy about. After he left, the places he was supposed to fix looked even worse and the trim was already chipping. This guy took advantage of me and my family especially after I explained to him how a previous painter cheated us out of $3,000. His claim that he is not any regular painter and that I can trust him was a complete FARSE and I regret it. I just hope this does not happen to anyone else again."
