Who understood the core issues, could explain them to me, could push back against the structural engineer for clarifying data? Who could I trust? His experience and unhurried ease put me at ease. Ron explained what could be explained and acknowledged what couldn't. With a careful choice of words he confirmed my concerns about the structural engineer's work. Ron's professionalism in acknowledging seemingly unprofessional behavior told me I was dealing with someone ethical. That spoke volumes. <br /> <br />The icing on the cake came a day or so later. At Drew's recommendation I called a different structural engineer, Marcel Papineau, to talk about having his company create working drawings. Marcel asked who had come to the house and what the issues were. I told him I was working with Drew Devine and he'd brought a seasoned construction guy named Ron to look over his shoulder. Marcel sounded puzzled, paused, then explained, "Joan, do you know who Ron is? He's president of the company." I like that neither Drew nor Ron traded on Ron's status but rather focused on his experience, which was what was needed. I like that Ron supported Drew as the lead in the contracting relationship. That's leadership. <br /> <br />Looking back, I realize how taxing I must have been with my ongoing questions and time-consuming interest in details. Yet Drew and his colleagues were unfailingly respectful and patient. Andrew Roby Co. is not inexpensive. You knew she was very disappointed that she could not be there, as she designed the foundation window placements and had a big part in the doors and steps. Your crew was so kind and so professional and meticulous, that they knew that two particular windows were very important to my wife.  Your crew wanted to get them perfect and asked me some questions about them, that I could not answer. My wife was feeling better, but still in the hospital, and I called her on the phone, while your crew waited for me, as she and I discussed for several minutes the exact placement of the windows. Some minor changes had to be made and your crew could have easily just slapped the two windows in the new location, which was only slightly off of the original plan, and be done with it, but they stopped and pointed out where my wife originally wanted them and the new location difference and wanted to be sure that my wife understood the change, and wanted me to talk to my wife first. I was so very impressed that they made the adjustments on the spot that my wife suggested over the phone. I don’t think any other company would have gone through this much trouble to please their customers! <br /> You also were very respectful of our property, neighbors, and your crew were always very willing to stop and explain the process of what was going to happen next. Not one time did we ever feel like we were in your way. Actually, it was the opposite, we felt like you and your crew were very excited to show us your equipment and how it worked and actually wanted us around so we could see how it all worked and so we could see for ourselves how everything was perfect - and it was! <br /> We will always remember you and think of you so highly. Thank you for making the beginning our home building so easy and off to such a perfect start. There are so many things that can go wrong when redoing a home, and having it go off with such a perfect start gives us such great hope. You have certainly set bar very high for the other contractors that will be coming in for the other parts of the home! Your company and its crew should be very proud of its work. You do a job that is very difficult, complex and tedious, but you do it with care, expertise, and perfection. We actually miss you guys and wish you were around. You are like family to us. "It went very smoothly.  I had a voice mail from his Office Manager, Jenny (she's awesome) on Friday, 3.30, that he'd be coming to do the job on Monday, 4.2.    He was here on Monday morning - bright and early - with his team and the pad was poured!  There were no surprises as to cost, layout, what we wanted, etc.  He's incredibly smart and good at what he does.  I asked if he could offer me some suggestions to improve my backyard area (patio or sidewalk from deck to other areas, etc.).  Shortly after that conversation, we walked the area off, he talked about stamped concrete options, colored concrete - to save money over stamped, etc.  and said he'd have Jenny put a proposal together for me.  I had that proposal Monday night. <br /> <br /> These folks are great!  They're professional and just 'good people'.  I would not hesitate to recommend them to any of my friends!"
