"We Recommend Browder….. The exterior of our garage door was in bad shape after less than 8 years since the original brown paint was turning red and running down to the ground. Plus we needed to redo baseboards in the house due to lots of wear and tear. Since we’ve seen trucks from Browder throughout our development and reviews were very good, we got in touch. Stars: - Overall: 5 - The Start: 5 - Explanations: 5 - Scheduling: 5 - Process: 5 - Workmanship: 5 - Communication: 5 - Cleanliness: 5 - Cost: 4 - The Start: I called on a Monday and scheduled an appointment with Nick Nystrom, one of their Project Managers, for that Thursday. - Explanations: Nick assessed the situation, both inside and out, and made arrangements to send us large samples of paint (and stucco for a small amount of damage) colors by overnight mail. Nick was a very easy guy to deal with. - Scheduling: Simple. Browder is usually very busy with multiple crews (currently they’ve got 30-35 painters), but they had an opening the following Tuesday and Wednesday so we grabbed it. The scheduler noted “your lead painter will be Juan Camarillo. He’s one of our best”. - Process: Nick the Project Manager arrived at 730 AM on Tuesday with the team of Juan and Reynaldo. With booties over their shoes, they moved furniture and covered the flooring…tile with carpeting in the bedrooms…with plastic sheeting. The garage door and most of the baseboards were done the first day, Tuesday. The rest was finished Wednesday morning followed by moving things back into place and a thorough cleanup. - Workmanship: Very good. Many people stopped to admire and ask about the garage door since the problem seems to be an epidemic in our neighborhood (picture #1). The baseboards look brand new…although some sections were “overpainted” and had “granules” hanging down (picture #2). I called Nick who asked Juan to investigate. Juan trimmed them in 15 minutes. I must say Juan Camarillo (there are a few Juans at Browder) is a master with 11 years at Browder who took the same care in our house as he would in his own. His assistant, Reynaldo, was an exterior painter for 8 years and fairly new to the interior. There was a difference in skill and care. - Communication: Excellent. Nick and Juan stayed in touch to keep us up-to-date and patiently answered questions. - Cleanliness: Really good. Even during the painting process indoors, they did a fine job. - Cost: Reasonable. A bit more than $3,900. All in all it was a very good experience. Our next job will be the walls and we’ll definitely ask for Juan C. if we go with Browder again. NOTE: When Juan and Reynaldo moved a dresser in the primary bedroom, one of the legs was bent. I couldn’t fix it myself so I spoke to Nick who sent Joe, 1 of 2 Field Supervisors, to investigate. Between the 2 of us, we got it back in workable shape."

"The job was done quickly and professionally. The spot was hard to access, but these guys got up there and fixed everything. They also stapled some other loose boards around the area where the boards were missing. Highly recommended, great job. Thanks."

FAQs for cabinets refinish projects in Los Alamos, CA

To find the best cabinet refinishing expert for your project, start by researching local pros and reading reviews from previous customers. Reach out to a few contractors to discuss your cabinets' size, condition, and the look you're aiming for. Don't hesitate to ask for references or examples of their past work. Speaking with previous clients can give you valuable insights into the pro's workmanship and reliability.

When speaking with potential cabinet refinishing pros, consider asking them several questions to gauge their experience and professionalism. These questions can help you gauge the pro's experience and determine if they align with your needs.

  • Do you offer a guarantee on your work?

  • Can you create custom finishes or colors?

  • Do you have examples or samples of your past projects?

  • Are you able to match the finish to other cabinets in my home?

  • How long will the project take from start to finish?

Regular care will help maintain the beauty of your cabinets for years to come. To keep your refinished cabinets looking their best, follow these steps:

  • Use gentle cleaners: Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals that can damage the finish. A simple mixture of warm water and mild dish soap works well.

  • Clean carefully: Instead of spraying solutions directly onto the cabinets, apply them to a soft microfiber cloth and wipe gently.

  • Protect from heat and moisture: Try to minimize exposure to excessive heat or moisture, which can affect the finish over time.

It's usually less costly to refinish cabinets than to replace them, depending on the cabinet condition. Refinishing cabinets cost an average of $3,114 while replacing cabinets is about $5,000 or more. When deciding to refinish or replace cabinets, consider several factors, including how old your cabinets are, your budget, and whether you need to complete any other renovation projects at the same time.

It may be worth resurfacing (also known as refacing) your cabinets if they’re in good shape but you’re interested in a different look. This is often less expensive than replacing cabinets outright and can allow you to update the look of your cabinets to reflect your kitchen’s current style without having to get rid of them entirely. The cost to reface cabinets is around $4,300 to $10,000, and you can hire a local cabinet refacing pro to handle this work.

Refinishing cabinets takes about two to three days to complete. The process begins with removing cabinet doors, drawers, and hardware, followed by cleaning, stripping, and sanding the surfaces. Any chips, stains, or splits are repaired before applying paint or stain. After applying the finish, the cabinets are reassembled, and the workspace is cleaned up, leaving your cabinets refreshed and renewed.
