"Brandon is very responsive to calls and also was very willing to modify job as we encountered issues. The crew is generally very efficient and does sound work. At times there were long delays in between phases of work and some work was not highest quality at first (he fixed all such instances immediately). Ultimately we were very satisfied with the cost/quality ratio and the final appearance. I would recommend them to others.
"

"Nicholas and his crew did a great job painting our fence. These guys work fast -- they painted almost 1000 ft of four-board fence in less than half-a-day. We checked their references carefully and they have many satisfied customers, mainly in rural Virginia like Middleburg, we were their first job ever in Fairfax County. They used a black water-based paint -- sometimes called an opaque stain -- formulated especially for fencing and made in Richmond Virginia. We originally intended to use an oil-based paint for greater longevity but they convinced us that this was a quality product. After 2 months on a new cedar and pressure-treated pine fence, it looks good and seems to be holding up well. The company who installed the fence did not offer painting services, but their crew offered to do the job on the side -- for four time more than Groundworx charged us. Worse yet, the fence crew wanted to use regular house paint without priming the bare wood, a recipe for disaster in my experience. The only caveat is that Groundworx specializes in BIG jobs with thousands of feet of fencing. This means its up to you to make sure plants, insects, leaves, dirt, post caps, etc. are cleared from the fence. Because they work quickly, we noted a number of places where the paint went on too thick and dripped or two thin and did not penetrate fully. They left us some mason jars of extra paint for touchup. But from a few feet away, it's hard to spot any problems. Overall, we're delighted with the results and the cost. If you have a big fence painting or staining job, you probably can't do much better.
"

"While Dave is one of the hardest workers I have encountered I was unprepared for the costs of the above projects. We had some serious mis-communication in between the estimate (one day -8 hrs- @ $60 an hour = $480 to do all the above work). This amount was quoted for TWO people and Dave said "we work really fast and can do this in one day). I was thrilled. I thought with materials I would be well under $1000 which is the amount I was willing to spend on these projects.

Dave's helper did not show up and he worked alone and did not get all of the projects done in one day as planned. I did not think this was a problem because I would expect it to take one person two days. I did mention this to him the second day and he said he only paid his helper $8/hr so he would still charge me $52.00 an hour. I thought this very unfair but I liked Dave and his work so I did not say anything more. When he had to return a third day I assumed I was at least getting charged for "short days" but that was not the case. My total bill was over $2100 (including $700+ for materials). I was dumbfounded but paid my bill.

As for the work itself, all was done well with the exception of the screen door. Dave originally said that he would get a price on a new door and then see if it was cheaper to replace or repair the door I had. The door I had was simply out of square but was otherwise in good condition and had a grill on the bottom half that I really liked. It looked like a quality door. Dave forgot to discuss a new door with me so I did not know the cost or anything. He simply brought it an installed. The door looks very cheap (but was not); did not have a grill; did not fit and he had to cut it down. When I was very, very dissatisfied with this door that STILL showed gaps where insects could get in, Dave quickly offered to take it down and "eat" the cost. To his credit, he was adamant that I be satisfied. My desire to not be wasteful, made me say "no" to this and I said I would live with it. He made a couple of suggestions of things I could do to improve it and offered to do them himself but I was afraid of the costs at that point and said no.

A few days later, I called Dave back and ask he he would consider coming back and fixing that door at no charge. He said yes and we scheduled a day. He did everything he could to make it right (even added the grill I wanted from the old door). However, it is still out of square. Dave said before he left if the door warped or was not right to let him know and he would return it to the store implying that the problem may be the door itself. I have considered this but likely will not take him up on it because I do not want to pay him any more for this job and I do not think he should do this for free.

Dave and I parted on good terms and he agreed that he needs to be more specific on charges when they go way beyond original quotes. He does quality work and has good ideas on how to make things right. I expect to use him again but will be more vigilant of keeping the work within the estimate. I hope this is helpful to Dave and his future customers.
"

"Ricky was great to work with! He gave me a fair quote for the work to be performed and worked with me to schedule a time to get the work performed. Ricky and his son came to take down the panels of my fence that were sagging due to their main post rotting out at the base. They replaced the post and reinforced the panels with new cross-section boards and then realigned everything to the existing fence line perfectly! Ricky also fixed my damaged gate so that it operates like new! I highly recommend Ricky for any project like this one or involving wood and carpentry skills. Ricky is a true master of his craft!"

"I originally hired Kevin Williams in June 2011 to remove an old shed and and all of the building materials and debris my husband left behind when he moved out. Not only were his rates reasonable but he worked so fast and did a great job that I hired him to do all of the things I wanted done to transform my house into my home. He painted a couple of rooms, put up porch rails, a privacy fence, crown molding, replaced locks, replaced the front door and screen, put up porch light and flood light, replaced light fixtures, moved thermostat, replaced my hot water heater, cleaned gutters, dug up my broken cement walkway, landscaping, and on and on. Next he will be laying tiles on my kitchen floor and putting up a french door to my living room. Kevin took ownership of the project and with his creative input and excellent workmanship, my house is now my home. I consider Kevin to be Central Virginia's undiscovered gem."
