"Contacted Emerald Lawn Care in April to ask about tick treatment for yard. After taking my information, they called back in within five minutes with the cost. I was advised that they didn't start yard treatments until the weather and ground was warm enough which is usually the second week in May. They called to let me know when they were coming out (helpful, since I needed to keep kids and pets in and pick up toys in the yard). They came and treated the yard, closed gates behind them and posted the required signs. A great job at a reasonable cost. Very professional. I'd called 2-3 other companies; some didn't respond at all, one said they'd send somebody, but never did even after I called to follow up, one other came but gave a higher price and wasn't as responsive about incidentals. (John threw in some smaller trees for a low price.) The other company also said they'd have to remove part of my neighbor's fence, as I had a tree growing almost horizontally over it, but John's company took care of it with no issues, and no fence removal. <br /> After doing my due diligence, I scheduled the tree removal. "We were pretty happy with Hadleys in the early days, and that changed as the company got bigger. I didn't come to Angie's list today to leave a review on Hadleys, but based on our address Angie's list solicited a review, and I have used the company, so I thought I would provide my thoughts. <br /> Hadley's moved their office into our neighborhood several years ago. We contracted them to cut our grass and initially they did a great job and at a great price. A year or so into our relationship they increased their mowing cost by 15%, and although I wasn't happy, I decided to continue on with them. Then last year they increased their rates by another 67%. Their new mowing rate was effectively double what we started at with them. They did a good job cutting the grass, but it wasn't worth the huge premium they were charging, so we ultimately dropped them and went with a competitor. Overall I would give the quality of their mowing an and quot;Aand quot; and their rates a and quot;Cand quot;. <br /> A few years ago we contracted Hadleys to plant 10 trees in our yard. They drew up a plan and we agreed on a price. When I came home that afternoon, half of the trees had been planted - but in the wrong spot. They were in the correct general area, but the workers definitely did not follow the plans that were drawn up. They apologized, and I agreed to keep the 5 trees where they were, and they placed the remaining 5 trees correctly. <br /> My biggest issue with that project was the trees themselves. 3-4 of them were and quot;bentand quot; and growing at an angle. I complained and Mr. Hadley came out to the house to look at the trees, and he said that it was natural, because they grow the trees on a side of a hill to save space, and that once they are planted in our yard the trees will eventually and quot;straighten outand quot;. Here we are a few years later, and while some of the trees have moved closer to being straight, the trunks on some of them are still bent. For the planting services I would give them a and quot;Cand quot;, with the quality being a and quot;Dand quot;. <br /> Our last encounter with Hadleys was the and quot;master planand quot;. We spent about an hour in the office with the owner and he showed us all of these various ideas he had that could be used in our yard. He said that he was going to draw up an elaborate and quot;master planand quot; that we could implement in phases over the next few years. He had us very excited in his office for the work they could do, and then we never heard from them again. No and quot;master planand quot; was ever presented. <br /> Although these strikes were enough for us to take our mowing/planting/and landscaping business needs to competitors, we were happy with their mowing service, and their lawn treatment service, and we have seen photos of large jobs they have done that have gone quite well. Perhaps we were too small of a customer to get better service. If you have a very large job, you may want to give them a try and learn more for yourself. <br /> <br /> <br />"
