"I had Cutter construction replace my old 12 x 14 cedar wood deck with a Trex capped composite deck (same size), as I had grown tired of stripping and staining it every 2 years. I had done research on capped composite decks and found out they were pretty reliable now. They were able to reuse the old pressure treated deck framing as it was still in decent shape, and I had them replace the deck floor boards, all the railing, the stairs, and fascia boards with Trex Transcend floor boards, picture framing, composite shells over the existing rail posts, Trex Signature aluminum railing and balusters with a cocktail rail, and new stairs. I also had them put pavers at the end of the stairs as I had problems with my old deck stairs directly contacting the ground, and didn’t want that happening again. They did a really nice job with the picture framing which also helps protect the fascia boards as the picture frame overhangs the fascia boards. The framing they added to put the picture frame floor board on also looked to be done very well. I had them use the hidden fastener system for attaching the deck floor boards and that really makes it look sharp. Mike was very aware of problems decks can have if they are not done correctly , which my old deck had where the flashing between it and the house was not correctly installed causing significant water damage to the walls contacting the deck, not to mention causing a carpenter ant infestation in the wall. It got to the point I finally had to have that water damaged wall repaired the prior year for some $3500 by Service Master 380 (who did a very nice job). Cutter construction is a certified Trex Pro installer which I wanted as Trex will guarantee their work meets all the requirements their warranty calls out for the warranty to be valid. Cutter also sends in the warranty registration for you. Cutter’s estimate was the middle of the 3 estimates I got. I went with Cutter due it being a certified Trex Pro installer, having installed many decks, and due to the numerous discussions I had with Mike Cutter prior to them even giving me an estimate or me giving them the job. The final invoice was about $170 more than the estimate due to some minor changes along the way. As any issues came up Mike would contact me to discuss them. They were able to fit me in their busy schedule and got my deck done when they said they would. I also liked that they used saw horses to hold their material to keep from killing the grass. I am very pleased with the job they did and look forward to minimal deck maintenance from here on out."

"John gave me what I thought was a decent estimate that was in line with everyone else. He gave me a date for the work to be completed, but they didnt arrive on that date. On that they that they didn't arrive, I had cancelled an appointment to stay home that morning. When I called him, he was in Iowa working at his other location. When I let him know that I had cancelled an appointment to be here for the work, he said "Did we inconvenience you?" in an unfriendly tone. The crew came to do the work on a weekend. John is not a good communicator at all. John had told me that he was going to resurface the floor. I did not understand what that meant and assumed it was putting in new concrete because he did not explain it. I saw that the crew was just chopping up the floor and going to fill in the cracks. When I stopped them and contacted John, he said he had it noted down as resurfacing. When I explained to him that the he did not explain what resurfacing meant to me, he got upset and said I had to pay more. He first said the job would cost an extra $800. When I declined it, he offered the work to be done at an extra $400. After the job was complete, it was done nicely. When I advised him how many companies on Angie's List offer discounts to members, I asked what type of discount he offered. He said that he would add some decorations to the sidewalk and that was done. Also, when I saw that dirt needed to be replaced in the trenched along each side of the driveway and sidewalk, he said I would need to call someone else. I had to pay another contaractor $300 for the dirt to be filled after they finished the driveway and sidewalk. The work took three days and he only stopped by once to oversee the job and that was when we had the arguement over the garage floor. The product and quality of service was good, but the communication was bad. The workers did a good job and they worked hard. However, I would not recommend this company to someone else as I felt that dealing with John was not appropriate. He didn't offer good customer service in what I see in terms of what I feel is appropriate customer service for what a person would normally expect. <br />"

"Johnson's met with us and our builder to discuss the best foundation for an outbuilding. They asked questions about what we would use the building for, any concerns we had, etc. and provided a prompt estimate. Their charges were exactly what the estimate was. They made several recommendations to correct drainage issues in the area and we love the results. The work was done on time and exceeded our expectations. Not only that, their recommendations resolved our drainage issues. We are extremely pleased and would use them again."

"We hired Jeff last year when we were getting our house ready to sell. There was drywall repair that you couldn't even tell that had been patched after he was done. Hung numerous light fixtures and they all looked amazing! Replaced glass in broken windows, replaced outlets and put in a new sump pump for us. He hung crown molding in our kitchen which turned out so amazing! He fixed doors that had fallen off the hinges and just got every little detail ready to go, The house was looking so good that the guy that bought our house asked for his card and wanted to hire him for future projects.  <br /> <br /> On to the new house.... Last Spring we bought our new house and it was a previous rental property....There was a lot that needed to be done...So we called Jeff. Our basement went through a few problems when we moved in...everything from needing to take down walls and put in flood protection. Everything had to come out...walls carpet...doors trim, concrete tile and all the fixtures in our basement bathroom. He did all of it got it all ready for the flood protection company. Then came back and put everything back up and made the basement look ten times better than it did when we moved in. In our main floor of our house Jeff put in all new light fixtures and faucets and finishing touches that made the house less "rental property" and more "home".  Everything he touches just looks amazing afterwards. <br /> <br /> <br /> No as far as today...We have hired Jeff again to come assist us in a major remodel of our main floor. Taking out walls and giving it all and open concept feel. Refinishing our formica countertops to a concrete counter top, moving outlets and etc...etc. Its nice to know that we can trust him to come work when we are not home, he does awesome work and communicates with you through out the whole process. He is great at being cost effective and we can't wait to see how great our house is gonna be when its all finished this time around!"

FAQs for concrete driveways & floors installation projects in Marion, IA

Polished concrete floors offer many benefits with very few drawbacks. While issues like discoloration, stains, or imprints may occur during pouring, these are rare when working with a skilled flooring contractor. Once polished, concrete floors are easy to maintain, long-lasting, and eco-friendly. They also resist mold and moisture, making them ideal for allergy-prone households, and offer versatile design options for both indoor and outdoor use.

Polished concrete flooring is often more affordable than tile. It involves lower material costs and less labor-intensive installation. Tile installations require additional leveling and preparation, which increases labor costs. Opting for concrete flooring helps reduce upfront expenses and provides a durable, stylish finish that saves money over time with minimal maintenance.

While epoxy flooring offers enhanced durability and toughness compared to polished concrete, it comes with higher material and labor costs. If budget is a top priority, polished concrete floors provide a resilient and attractive finish without the premium price tag, making them an ideal choice for value and long-term performance.

Polished concrete floors last 20 years or more when installed by licensed professionals and maintained with proper care. Their enduring finish withstands heavy use and remains visually impressive for decades. Regular deep cleaning and maintenance help safeguard the floor’s integrity, providing homeowners with a long-lasting, cost‐effective solution that endures daily wear without compromising style.

Polished concrete floors increase home value by offering a modern, sleek appearance and exceptional durability. A professionally installed floor not only enhances visual appeal but also minimizes maintenance expenses, making the property more attractive to prospective buyers. This flooring upgrade delivers a refined look while boosting overall market competitiveness and long-term property value.
