"Spencer construction repaired the damaged brickwork on my house after a stolen car ran into the house at high speed. The damages occurred around a brick surround for a support pillar and also effected brickwork between two garage doors. Kevin paid attention to ensure that the replacement bricks matched the damaged ones. He also was able to cut appart undamaged bricks so that they could be reused and make the repair look as if the incident had never happenned. He protected the mortar from rain while it was drying. As an experienced 3rd generation mason, he did everything right. He was the best of 6 masons I interviewed. I would not hestitate to recommend him to others. "We bought a house built in 1930; it is partially brick-clad and has two brick chimneys. Our remodel contractor referred us to a mason who, because of other commitments, could only do one aspect of our job, and on completion, referred us to Powers. This was one of the most fortunate referrals we used. Working with Powers starts with a call to the office and from the get-go, that connection is outstanding. Connie was my go-to office person and she is organized, excellent at communicating (notifies you of when and who to expect re estimates and work), follows through with concerns, and handles billings efficiently and transparently. Absolutely A+. Then, there is the actual work: set-up to clean-up is totally professional, and again, transparent. Variety, quality and cost of materials is discussed; questions are answered; work is careful, thorough and efficient. Masonry work needed is assessed and described on a priority basis. If your masonry needs sealing, it is only done after the correct amount of drying time is achieved -- careful scheduling and rescheduling is arranged around the weather and curing of mortar. If you want to re-use bricks, they are chosen deliberately for quality, size, type, and appearance, and they are integrated and set appropriately. Our job involved several independent aspects: chimney inspections, removing and bricking in of a window, sealing, rowlock and wall tuck-pointing, then, new construction with recycled bricks that needed to be matched to existing brickwork. There were multiple visits over a period of time, but continuity was assured through Ekraam, who continued as the lead on all the work done for our job. Another A+. Absolutely everything about this company speaks to ensuring excellent work at a competitive cost. "After interviewing three contractors, I chose Ryan (owner of J&R) because we had a good rapport, he offered the best suggestions on project specifics, and he was willing to negotiate price (some) and payment schedule. He and his team (Reese, Jake, Andrew) were quite knowledgeable and professional, and open to my questions and requests. Ryan let me purchase additional yards of soil beyond what was needed for the project, at his cost, and had his guys spread it for me - very nice. Once the project was done, I discovered a few loose ends, and they were quick to come back and take care of them. The finished retaining wall and leveled yard look great, although I'm not thrilled with the steps (see below). Overall, a good experience, and I would probably hire J&R again or recommend them to others. That said, there were a few bumps along the way, some of which are normal for a construction project but others seemed avoidable. - The project estimate was 8-10 days but ran into a third week. One problem was they didn't reserve the equipment they needed to get started, which caused a 3-day delay. But even when all the equipment and materials were there, they worked short days. The first week, very little got done, nobody was there more than a couple hours a day. The second week, they only worked 3-5 hours a day - until the end of the week, when the project should be complete, but was only half done, so they started working more. But not once was there an 8-hour day. The project would have been completed sooner with more productive days. As a project manager myself, I found this annoying, esp. when the extra days impacted my personal life and business. - They didn't talk to me about how the stairs would be laid down the hillside, and I'm not pleased with the result. Not what I expected, and I hope I don't scrape my legs or trip down them. My older, existing stairs at the other end of the wall may not look as nice but are more functional than the new, $1000 steps. - The finish and cleanup was incomplete. They didn't properly finish the end of the wall (capstones), they dumped green waste and leftover gravel in inappropriate locations, and they left part of my lawn (their staging area) a mess - gravel and debris, damaged areas. This necessitated a return visit the following week to address these issues, which were then completed to my satisfaction."

"I had a car go through my brick wall - approximately 15 square feet of damage - 3000 LBS of brick. No injuries thank goodness but both cars involved were totaled. Imagine coming home to ambulances, fire and police and a car in your brick wall! To the point, I made several phone calls to multiple contractors only to be let down. Then I found S.J. Construction Masonry!!!! There is a god :) I received a call back in 10 minutes and Derek was here the next day to look things over and quoted that evening. The crew disposed of the mess, set a new footing and rebuilt the wall to match the existing in a very timely fashion. I was so impressed, I couldn't give a better recommendation!
