"My project was tear off and install new roofs on my house and detached garage. Both are very steep. I contacted Tonka Roofing for a bid. The owner, Rich, contacted me to set up a time to meet. Great communication! Rich provided me with every option available and then a competitive bid on the roof system I chose. Rich has excellent technology and product. knowledge. I awarded Tonka the job. The job took several days to complete. The crew are trained at installing lifetime roofs using the best quality products. They are skilled craftsman. Most of the crew has been with Tonka for many, many years. They take the time to do quality work. After the job was complete, everything was cleaned up thoroughly. I highly recommend Tonka Roofing"

"I found Craftsman via Angie’s List after recent storm damage. Their proposal seemed very thorough and comprehensive compared to others I received. The scheduling and logistics were very easy and the new roof turned out great. The install team was very professional as was the project team. Would use them again for sure."

"I have never posted a review before, wanted to say that working with Northrup Roofing and Exteriors was a very positive experience. I give the company the highest recommendation possible. The work was professionally done and I am most happy with the outcome. The project manager, Cristian Vazquez, was wonderful to work with. He was simultaneously very knowledgeable and professional, while also being flexible and friendly. Finally, when everything was completed, I received a number of compliments from my neighbors about how great it looks"

"After having a leaking problem coming from our chimney, we noticed some damage to our roof that was probably from a storm the year before and we wanted to get an evaluation of what sort of things would need to be done to improve it.  We had used Doug's Roofing 6 months before for an ice dam removal and I was so impressed with Doug and his service, I decided to contact him again to assess my roof.  We also started the process of seeing if our insurance company would help us with replacement costs.  After my initial meeting with Doug and my phone call to the insurance company, I didn't even need to do that much other that pick out the shingles.  Doug took care of most of the insurance stuff for us, including being there when the assessor came to view the roof and submitting the invoices and photos of the work done directly to the insurance company.  He and his team (one to four other guys depending on the day) work for several days to re-deck the whole house and garage (they were replacing what was probably 94 year old wood), put on new shingles, new vents on the garage, fresh flashing on the chimney, and even adjusted some of the siding that was impacted by the changes on the roof (and one that was just falling off the side of my house).  All of them were very nice.  The were delayed several time due to rain so that made it take a bit longer, but they still got done before my requested deadline.  The whole thing, from the time I first contacted Doug to when the final insurance payment came, was probably about two months.  I am so pleased with the results!  Doug is so nice, so helpful and so professional! <br />"

"We can’t say enough great things about the professionalism, punctuality and quality workmanship from 22nd Century Roofing. Adam and his crew were great to work with as we decided whether to repair or remove our chimney. The paperless transaction process they use is transparent, reliable and easy to follow from inspection to quote to job completion. We would definitely hire them for future roof work!"

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Saint-Paul, MN

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
