"Brett Hulsey is relentless in pursuit of the underlying cause of why frames don't fit, why the ceiling leaks, etc. I had a particularly vexing problem and over a two-month period, and three or four attempts to fix leaks, he solved it. He never gave up."

"Project: remove trees. We had some difficult branches that hung over the house. Mitch worked hard and got them down without hitting the roof. He left the wood just where we wanted it. We appreciated that he was able to do the job promptly without the 8-week delay of another company. And his prices were reasonable."

"Standard work, the fertilizer and weed treatment was outstanding. Very efficient and effective. The aeration and seeding were another issue. Required multiple phone calls and monitoring. It would seem that the staff have communication and followthrough problems when there is a variation from standard. I wanted only one section of the lawn to have a double aeration and seeding. That took four phone calls to get done. Aeration was supposed to be done and was not for several weeks during the extended dry spell. Was told to water the lawn for twenty minutes and they would be there on Monday. Spent the weekend moving a sprinkler around the 1/4+ acre lot to meet the specs. No one came for the next entire week! Called again on Friday and finally showed up on the next Monday. Have signed a contract for both aeration, weed treatment, and fertilizer for 2018 because was very happy with the basic package. But if there are similar problems with the aeration next year, will not be renewing for 2019"

"I received the initial call quickly & the first person I talked with seemed quite knowledgeable & very nice. Then I was transferred to billing; they weren't so knowledgeable or nice. Over the next couple of weeks I was told a tech was scheduled but he didn't show. Then I received multiple calls from various people in the "office" of TruGreen-each one asked me about aerating the lawn & each time I told them my husband already did it. One person told me to seed. Found out not the thing to do at this point. We just rcvd our 1st treatment yesterday. Tech that came out was excellent; explained things well. The office staff needs improvement!"

"was so impressed. The owner came to my home only one day after contacting him.  He is exactly what I was seeking in a professional service I'd welcome to my home- kind, straightforward, and attentive to my specific landscaping needs, as well as providing the most economical quote for the job of the three companies I'd interviewed.  He took the initiative to do more than I'd asked such that his work was of the highest quality. Highly recommended."

FAQs for trees & shrubs treat, protect and maintain projects in Middleton, WI

The optimal transplanting season depends on your tree species, but most trees respond best when moved during dormancy. For deciduous trees, late fall after leaf drop or early spring before bud break provides the lowest stress periods. Evergreens transplant better in early fall or late summer when soil temperatures remain warm enough for some root growth. Avoiding transplanting during active growth periods helps trees direct energy toward establishing new roots rather than supporting foliage.

While technically, trees of any size can be transplanted with the right equipment and expertise, practical considerations limit what's reasonable for most homeowners. Trees with trunk diameters under 15 inches are most commonly transplanted in residential settings. Success rates decline as trees increase in size and age, with specimens over 24 inches in diameter presenting significant challenges and costs. For large trees, carefully weigh the substantial investment against the potential benefits and survival probability.

Most transplanted trees require one to two years to fully establish in their new location, with larger specimens often needing additional time. During this establishment period, the tree regenerates roots that were inevitably lost during the move. Signs of successful establishment include normal seasonal growth patterns, healthy leaf development, and reduced dependence on supplemental watering. The quality of aftercare during this critical period significantly influences long-term survival rates.

Self-transplanting is feasible for small trees with trunk diameters under two to three inches if you have proper tools and follow correct techniques. However, medium to large trees require professional expertise and specialized equipment to ensure tree survival and property protection. While professional services cost more initially, they achieve much higher success rates and prevent potential damage to your property or the tree itself. The investment in professional services often proves worthwhile when considering the value of mature trees.
