He seemed genuinely perplexed (and perhaps vexed!) at the great disparity between his and the other two bids, although it seems the discrepancy was partially due to a much larger cost for a crane to be brought in, which is a sub-contractor issue. (His crane cost was anticipated to be $2800; the other two bidders both figured the crane cost at around $1000, which I think was still greater than the actual total when the job was done.)

David also theorized that perhaps other bids were lower because he has to account for insurance and workmen's comp coverage; the winning bid for the job was also well-covered in both respects, so that must not have been it either.

I would not rule out using Lusk in the future; I was inspired with confidence in my interactions with David. In this case, I could not justify the premium price attached to his services."
